- Chapter 155 - The Pro Gamer Who’s Madly Obsessed With His Fan (4) “Sis, Your Lock’s Broken”
The living room wasn’t particularly big, but it was warm and inviting. The dim, amber lighting cast a cozy glow, and a fluffy cat-print throw was draped over the sofa.
She must’ve been curled up there gaming just moments ago.
Yu Che pulled his gaze away and quietly began placing the takeout bags on the coffee table. It didn’t take long for the entire surface to be covered, with a couple of items even left with nowhere to go.
A few of the dishes were ones he’d tried before and thought tasted decent, so he took the initiative to open the boxes and unwrap the utensils and napkins.
The delicious aroma filled the room as the tall boy crouched by the table. Under the guise of organizing the food, he unabashedly inhaled her scent.
That fluffy throw looked like a giant ball of catnip—its faint, fresh scent made him want to pounce and roll around in it.
Standing just behind him, Su Ci watched as his slender wrist brushed against the corner of the blanket, “accidentally” lifting the drooping edge.
The soft, delicate texture brushed against Yu Che’s fingertips and made his heart itch.
His gaze dropped to the printed cats on the blanket—and for some reason, it made him think of the girl’s in-game avatar.
A couple’s matching cat icons. One for her, one for Su Xu.
What’s so great about cats anyway?
Other than acting coy and playing cute, they were pretty much useless—high maintenance and hard to please.
Dogs were humanity’s best friends.
They guarded the house, entertained you when bored, weren’t picky eaters, and were easy to take care of. Give them some leftover scraps and they’d wag their tails like you were a god.
Whatever cats could do, dogs could too. And what cats couldn’t do, dogs could do even better.
He’d be her dog…
Wait—Yu Che shook his head, snapping himself out of the mental rabbit hole.
What he meant was—he’d be a more loyal friend than a dog, someone who would protect a girl living alone at all costs.
He spaced out for just a moment, so when he stood up, he didn’t realize someone was standing behind him.
He bumped right into her legs.
The hem of her skirt quivered from the impact, and the slightly rough lace brushed his cheek.
Yu Che froze on the spot.
“S-Sorry, I didn’t see you there…”
He scrambled back in a panic—straight onto the floor.
His recently healed left hand slammed hard against the wood. His eyebrows instantly drew together in pain as he hissed softly, “Tss…”
“Did you hurt yourself?”
Su Ci hadn’t expected him to get hurt and quickly stepped forward to help him up, gently settling him onto the sofa.
“Did you twist your wrist? Let me see.”
Yu Che obediently held out his left hand. Just beside him was that fluffy throw—he subtly slipped his right hand under it, kneading the soft fabric.
It was plush and comforting.
But still not as warm as her touch.
Su Ci turned up the lights and carefully examined his wrist.
Objectively speaking, it was a beautiful hand—pale, slender fingers with clean joints. Whether playing piano or gaming, it was a hand made for talent.
The joints had turned slightly pink from the fall, and the entire wrist was red and tender, exuding the air of someone raised with care. Thankfully, there was no swelling or broken skin.
Higher up, along the inside of his forearm, was a long, jagged scar.
It curved around the bend of his elbow like a slash from a blade.
Su Ci gently rubbed the inflamed skin on his wrist.
“Still hurt?”
Yu Che snapped back to the moment. Beneath the helmet and mask, his face was starting to heat up. He quickly tugged down his sleeve to cover the redness, blinking as a pitiful mist welled in his eyes.
“It hurts a lot. I probably won’t be able to ride my scooter for a while… But it’s my own fault, I won’t blame you for it.”
In truth, the pain had already subsided. After the accident, he’d spent months recovering with top doctors. He was young, and young people healed fast.
It didn’t affect him at all.
The real question was—how could he let her know he was younger and better looking than Su Xu?
Right—he was also better at gaming. He really was the whole package.
Su Ci pulled out some anti-inflammatory gel patches from the medicine box and carefully applied one to his wrist.
Afterward, she smiled warmly. “All done. I’ll send you a little tip. Don’t take any more deliveries tonight—go home and rest.”
Yu Che whipped out his phone faster than anyone.
“Thank you, miss—I mean, thank you, sister. You’re so kind and beautiful. I’m just a poor student from C University trying to make ends meet…”
A gambling father. A sick mother. A delinquent brother. And… his own sad little WeChat profile.
“Sister, can I add you on WeChat to accept the transfer? If you have any errands in the future, you can call me again. Is that okay?”
Su Ci added him and sent over a 200-yuan red envelope. Considering how cautious he seemed, she even wrote a note: “Hardship bonus, voluntary gift.”
Yu Che’s smile stiffened slightly.
What a thoughtful Sea Queen she was. Even with a total stranger, she gave her heart so freely. Who knew how much she must dote on Su Xu?
He wasn’t jealous.
Seriously.
Not. At. All.
He accepted the red envelope and replied with a “thank you boss” emoji, forcing himself to act cheerful. “Then I’ll get going. See you next time, boss lady.”
Su Ci waved goodbye. “See you. I’ll definitely call you again, kiddo.”
Yu
Yu Che froze mid-step.
Kiddo?
He was an adult!
She called other people “Ah Xu” this and “Ah Xu” that. But to him? Just “kiddo.” A kid that was only two years younger…
So annoying.
Irritated, Yu Che reached for the doorknob—only to find it wouldn’t turn. The digital lock was pitch-black no matter how many times he pressed it.
He turned around with a confused look.
“Sister, I think your lock’s broken.”
Behind the mask, his pretty lips were practically curling into a grin.
What was this? A blessing in disguise?
Now he, a 6’2” “kiddo,” would be forced to stay the night with the beautiful Sea Queen. Sounded like fate to him.
She was so kind. So trusting.
She’d definitely agree to take in a pitiful stray.
“Broken? Let me see.”
Su Ci walked over, tested all the common fingerprint settings, but the lock stayed dead. It really did seem broken.
Yu Che subconsciously leaned closer, holding his breath so he wouldn’t make a sound like a dumb dog sniffing its owner. His lips twitched upward.
Yup. Definitely broken. How unfortunate (lucky).
A beautiful, independent woman, locked in with a late-night delivery boy.
The night was still young. So many possibilities…
What Yu Che didn’t know was—some smart locks could be set to “anti-touch mode.”
And the predator had just walked right into the trap.
Su Ci played her role better than he did. She even sounded flustered as she dialed property management by the window.
But they told her it was too late. No repairman would come until tomorrow.
She turned back to the seemingly helpless teen and let out a soft sigh. “Looks like this is just bad luck. You might have to stay here tonight. Will it affect your classes tomorrow?”
Yu Che pressed his lips together and shook his head. “It won’t.”
Su Ci opened a pair of disposable chopsticks and handed them to him. “There’s no way I’m finishing all this alone. Help me out—it’s our duty to reduce food waste.”
“Thank you, sister. You’re the best.”
He took off his helmet and mask, bowing his head and eating in small, quiet bites. Anything Su Ci had barely touched, he’d pull over to his side and polish off without a second thought.
“Whoever ordered all this for you must really like you, huh? To be this close with you… he must’ve saved the world in a past life.”
Yu Che dipped a dumpling in vinegar, his tone sour as hell. “Not like me. I don’t even deserve to know your name. I can only call you ‘sister’ or ‘boss.’”
“People look down on us delivery guys, always nitpicking and complaining… but you, sister…”
Su Ci picked up a crab roe bun and placed it in his bowl.
“There’s no such thing as deserving or not. I can tell you my name—if you’ll trade something with me in return.”
Yu Che’s heart leapt. He was just about to dramatically introduce his tragic backstory when—
The phone in his pocket rang.
Su Xu’s phone.
He quickly pulled it out and hung up, brushing it off with practiced ease. “Just a spam call. Don’t worry about it.”
But when he looked up, he saw her watching him intently.
Su Ci pointed at the pocket on his right.
“My little brother has the same phone. Even the ringtone’s identical.”
