- Chapter 179 - The Pro Gamer Who’s Madly Obsessed With His Fan (28) Inheritance of Love and War
Ever since that “mistake” in the scrim, Tangyuan had been quietly ostracized by Shang Xue and the others.
You Che, on the other hand, didn’t treat him any differently.
But outside of training and reviewing game footage, he was barely seen. He was either cuddling with his girlfriend or off on a date with her.
To avoid raising suspicion, Tangyuan had kept a low profile lately. His performance in training was solid—nothing flashy, but no glaring issues either.
Everyone in DE was looking forward to making a dramatic comeback in the Fall season.
Everyone except Tangyuan, who had his own worries.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, BOC blazed through the brackets and made it into Group S, but still failed to clinch the title—they fell just short of the reigning Spring champions.
The team that ended up taking the championship trophy? SAH, the long-time runner-up.
Their jungler, Jueji, claimed the FMVP (Finals MVP) award. And in the post-match interview, he didn’t hold back at all when he took shots at BOC.
“To be honest, winning was partly luck. I owe it to BOC’s Mo Hen. If he hadn’t gotten cocky, I’m not sure I’d have had the confidence to beat You Che.”
It was basically an open accusation that Qin Mo had sabotaged his own team.
But Jueji wasn’t done. He followed up with another sharp jab—
“Still, if I had to choose my next opponent, I’d rather face DE. At least it’s more interesting than playing against a copycat. Even geese know not to fly south twice.”
Translation: No Southbound Return.
BOC walked away with second place, but their public image tanked. As a rookie, Qin Mo should’ve been the breakout star, the golden boy—but instead, he became a clown, a cheap imitation.
He’d climbed to the top using You Che’s tactics. So while he was on a win streak, everyone sang his praises. But once the losses rolled in, fans turned on him and mocked him relentlessly.
At the end of the day, fans love skill—not the player.
Especially after BOC lost that scrim to DE. Getting crushed by someone who was still recovering from injury? The ridicule was brutal.
If that’s not pathetic, then what is?
The criticism only snowballed. Even You Che’s dad—who usually paid no mind to esports drama—summoned Qin Mo back to the old house for a scolding.
Deep down, the elder You did have a soft spot for his firstborn and didn’t object to him competing for the family assets.
But what Qin Mo should never have done—under any circumstances—was try something as idiotic as the car accident.
“The old man already suspects it was you.”
They’d hoped Qin Mo would accomplish something—anything—to shift the power dynamic. Even just beating You Che in the game would’ve been enough leverage to propose a formal return to the family, a name change, a shot at legitimacy.
But after all that effort and investment, he’d ended up with nothing.
Qin Mo clenched his jaw. “They have no proof.”
“You idiot,” his father snapped without hesitation.
“You think this is some kid’s game? In a family like ours, you don’t need proof. All it takes is the old man deciding it was you—and that’s that!”
The patriarch had all the power. If he pointed his finger, it didn’t matter what the truth was.
He’d never liked Qin Mo to begin with. Now, any chance he had of officially inheriting the You name was dead in the water.
Humiliated, Qin Mo dropped to his knees. “Father, give me half a season—just half a season! In the Fall and Worlds, I’ll crush You Che and take the title. I promise, I won’t let you or Grandfather down!”
You Che happened to be pushing the old man in his wheelchair past the study right at that moment. He rolled his eyes. It wasn’t even dark out yet and this guy was already talking in his sleep. His delusions were bigger than his ego. Absolutely wild.
Ignoring both his scumbag dad and that mongrel, You Che wheeled his grandfather toward the garden, smiling sweetly as he bent down to play the good grandson.
“Grandpa, I found you a granddaughter-in-law. Since you’re the elder in the family, shouldn’t you give us your blessing?”
“Oh, now I’m your grandpa, huh? Haven’t seen you in half a month. If people didn’t know better, they’d think you were the old man and I was the grandson.”
The old man gave him a few grumbles, but he couldn’t help beaming at the mention of a granddaughter-in-law. Then he asked—
“Alright, how much do you want?”
You Che squatted beside the wheelchair, chin in hand, pretending to think seriously. One small goal? That felt too modest.
“How about giving it all to my wife? No sense letting outsiders get a cut.”
If he didn’t give it to his sister-in-law, it’d just end up in the pockets of that scumbag father and bastard brother.
“So your wife’s the only insider now? And I’m what, chopped liver? Not even a dime for my retirement?”
The old man laughed in mock anger, raising his cane and giving the boy a light whack.
When Su Ci finally saw them approach from the pavilion, the old master—white-haired but spry—was grumbling about wanting to walk on his own. He’d insisted on getting out of the wheelchair halfway.
As they got closer, she could hear his muttering—
“All that etiquette I taught him went to the dogs.”
“Sitting to greet guests—what nonsense.”
“That must be my sweet granddaughter-in-law.”
“Step aside, I don’t need your help. I can walk just fine.”
You Che could only shake his head at his grandfather’s stubbornness. He’d heard the old man had taken ill after the car crash, but now he was practically showing off.
Su Ci got up and stepped forward to support him up the stairs.
“Careful, Grandpa.”
The old man beamed. “Ah, good girl. Sit, sit. Just treat me like your real grandpa. We’re not sticklers for formality in this house.”
You Che: “…Real grandpa?”
Was he trying to make him die single?
He just knew this old man was all talk. Who was it that warned him a thousand times not to be fooled by a bad woman?
And now he was all smiles calling her “sweet granddaughter-in-law”?
He had to clarify one more time—it’s “granddaughter-in-law,” okay?!
“Ahem. Back to business.”
You Che couldn’t take it anymore. He pulled out a thick stack of documents and placed them on the stone table.
Su Ci looked puzzled. Wasn’t this just a casual visit? Why did it suddenly feel like an official meeting?
You Che’s ears were flushed as he hesitated. “Jie… this is my dowry.”
“It’s everything I own. I’m not picky about food or clothes. I’m easy to take care of. You’re not gonna leave me without a title, right?”
Su Ci was still processing the situation when he looked like he was about to cry.
“You don’t want to take responsibility? My family’s here too, you know! And you already ate me up and—”
Su Ci’s scalp tingled. She quickly interrupted, “I’ll take responsibility. I will.”
Could he not blurt stuff like that in front of her elders? What they did in bed was one thing, but saying it like that out loud?
The old man slid the documents toward her with a kind smile. “Take them, good girl. He’s a mess, but I’ve got trusted people managing the assets. Don’t stress about it.”
Faced with those big puppy-dog eyes, Su Ci could only accept the absurd windfall.
“Alright. I’ll follow Grandpa’s lead.”
To be continued…
(Ah… made a promise… I’m gonna finish this arc today no matter what! My exam brain is fried. Should I write some extra content? Maybe a cozy slice-of-life about this clingy couple? Who could resist two loyal, doting manservants?)
No extras? Then next up is a new world: the stalker-y student council president who’s obsessed with his senpai. Another younger guy–older girl pairing. But the male lead is a lot more unhinged. A performer-type with a gentle and mature front, but secretly a manipulative, possessive PUA mastermind. He’s constantly isolating Ci Bao from everyone else.
His mindset:
If I want to shield her from the wind and rain—
But her world has no rain—
Then fine. I’ll block out the sun too.
Only I can give her light. And shade.
