- Chapter 32 - The Mysterious BOSS Who Keeps the New Player Captive (11)
The monsters’ eerie robes made Qin Jin instantly realize—they were from her quest line, “Witch Village Farm Stay.” These monsters had come looking for her!
What now?
Since entering the instance, she’d never encountered anything this terrifying. Behind those robed figures was an endless swarm of skeletons.
It made sense. The mountain near the Witch Village was a cemetery.
Her first instinct was to retreat into the safety of the villa. But the next second, she froze, clutched her Cloak of Inferiority tighter, and ran in the opposite direction.
There were too many monsters. The fairy-like big sister and the two uncles at the villa couldn’t possibly fend them off. She couldn’t bring trouble back there—she’d already caused them enough.
Up on the villa’s rooftop terrace, Su Ci was helping Melting Snow build snowmen—though to be precise, every snowman was sculpted from his own snowy body.
Each time they finished one, the little snowman would come to life, wobbling around Su Ci while chirping, “Wife~” Then it would tilt its head up and beg for a gentle kiss.
Melting Snow noticed what was happening below and asked cheerfully, “Wife, I think that’s your friend down there. Should I go save her?”
He’d already made up his mind: if his wife told him to save her, he’d gulp down an entire vat of vinegar—then use that excuse to demand a kiss and some pampering.
He was her monster. She wasn’t allowed to care about anyone else—especially not another girl!
Su Ci rubbed his smooth, pale cheek. “If you save her, will you get hurt? I don’t want you getting hurt for my sake. She has her own fate.”
Melting Snow blinked his black eyes, stunned. A subtle warmth seeped in from her fingertips, trickling through his skin and making his very bones feel like they were melting.
The snowmen around them all turned bashful pink, collapsing into puddles of steaming strawberry milk that spread across the floor.
He’d expected her to say yes or no.
Humans, especially girls, were always so quick to help each other in the face of danger. That’s why she had saved that friend once already.
Since she’d personally gone out of her way to rescue someone before, Melting Snow thought she wouldn’t just sit by and let them die now.
But what she said instead—made him feel important. It was as if no one and nothing in her world came before him.
The realization filled him with joy. To keep his wife’s kindness from going to waste, he decided he would help Qin Jin.
Yes, breaking the rules would injure him—but he couldn’t let her worry. Fortunately, he had a better way to deal with those monsters.
Still, it was a shame. If he did get hurt, she’d probably feel bad for him… maybe pinch his cheeks and give him a little kiss?
But her sadness would hurt more than any wound. He couldn’t bear to make her sad.
Meanwhile, not far from the villa, Qin Jin was trudging through the snow, but the mob of monsters quickly caught up to her.
She had triggered the penalty system, and her Cloak of Inferiority had lost its effect.
Just as a long-faced witch lunged forward to grab her, the ground beneath her gave way. Qin Jin dropped into a large square pit.
Soft layers of snow piled up around her, gradually forming a grave mound. A snow headstone rose at the front, complete with snowy fruits and incense sticks as offerings.
The witches and skeletons: “……”
The dead deserved respect. In their Witch Village culture, disturbing a grave was a grave taboo.
So… maybe they should just… leave?
The lead witches bowed respectfully toward Qin Jin’s snow grave, then turned and marched off with the rest of the skeleton horde.
【Congratulations! Player Qin Jin has received the witches’ ceremonial tribute. Points +10.】
Lying in the pit, Qin Jin looked dazed. That was it? She’d gotten away that easily?
Turns out this beta test wasn’t that scary. The mission description even hinted at it—why hadn’t she thought of playing dead before?
Qin Jin was sure it was the silver-haired boy with the fairy big sister who had helped her. Probably because he’d seen how well she got along with Su Ci.
Once the monsters were gone, Qin Jin dug herself out of the snow, glanced back at the villa, and spotted two faint silhouettes on the rooftop.
Once again, the fairy-like big sister had saved her. Someday, if she survived this instance, she’d find a way to repay her for the kindness.
She brushed the snow off her clothes, ready to leave.
“Qin Jin?!”
A sharp, shrill voice pierced the air. Qin Jin turned and broke into a delighted smile. “Siwei! Thank god! I was just looking for you!”
Clutching the makeup case the ghost sister had given her, she sprinted over to Xu Siwei and only noticed when she arrived—she was right at the villa gates.
Wait… when did Siwei get here? She hadn’t seen her coming at all. It was like she had appeared out of thin air.
“Siwei, where have you been all this time? I was so scared something happened to you. I—”
“Smack!”
A sudden slap cut her off mid-sentence. Qin Jin held her burning cheek in shock, staring at Xu Siwei in disbelief.
She had never seen her best friend wear such a twisted, hate-filled expression—like she was staring at her mortal enemy.
Her head buzzed, unable to process what had just happened, when Xu Siwei grabbed her by the collar and screamed:
“Qin Jin, you bitch! Why didn’t you tell him to save me?!”
“I gave you the chance to live—and this is how you repay me? I actually thought of you as my best friend! I’ll hate you for the rest of my life!”
Qin Jin couldn’t understand what she was talking about. She tried to explain: “Siwei, listen to me. I never even saw the ‘glutinous rice monster’ you’re talking about…”
She’d been here a while now, and the only strange being she’d seen was that black fluffball who later turned into a ridiculously beautiful silver-haired boy.
But a pure white glutinous rice monster with two black eyes? She’d never seen anything like that.
“Smack!”
Xu Siwei slapped her again, even harder.
“Liar! Still trying to deceive me? You were at the mountainside villa—how could you not have seen him?! Do you know what you’ve done? My dad is dead because of you!”
Qin Jin was stunned. “Uncle Xu… died?”
She remembered that neither of Xu Siwei’s parents had entered the instance…
Xu Siwei clung to her, tears of anguish running down her face as she pounded her fists against Qin Jin.
“It’s all your fault! Why don’t you just die?!”
If she had known this would happen, she would never have switched faces with Qin Jin!
Just moments ago, when those four monsters charged at her, she had been terrified to death. All she could do was scream:
“Collateral! I want to use collateral!”
【You’re dirt poor, player. What do you even have left to offer? This time, I want a human life. Think carefully.】
Xu Siwei hesitated for two seconds—then called out her father’s name, chanting and praying nonstop:
“Approve it… approve it… Come on, old man, just agree already! Save me… please…”
Her dad was already in his fifties—how many good years did he have left? He couldn’t be so selfish!
Whether or not he had really heard her, the moment the manager’s room card came down to behead her, Xu Siwei was teleported to the villa gate.
She had traded her father’s life to teleport herself to the place she most desperately wanted to be.
And subconsciously, her mind had chosen the mountainside villa as the safest place—even though she had once desperately wanted to escape the monster that kept her there.
When she appeared, a flicker of hope returned. If she saw the glutinous rice monster again, maybe she could stay by his side, rack up enough points, and buy back her father’s life.
But then… she saw Qin Jin crawling out of the snow, full of energy, completely untouched by any monster attack!
So Qin Jin had made it to the villa safely, and didn’t even follow through on their agreement to order the monster to save her?!
Because of Qin Jin’s betrayal, she had suffered so much—and now, her father was dead!
Xu Siwei pointed to the bulging bundle in Qin Jin’s arms, voice full of venom.
“You said you didn’t see him—then what’s in that bag, huh?!”
“Qin Jin, you’re hiding him in there, aren’t you?!”
