In her previous life, she’d secretly gone out to dinner with a male classmate. After getting caught by Qi Du, he had shoved her into this very sports car and gone on a death-defying joyride.
Just the memory of it made An Kefan sick to her stomach.
The sleek, flashy sports car pulled up at the gates of Peking University.
It was just around dinner time, and more than a few wide-eyed, innocent college students stopped in their tracks to stare. The scene drew an almost ridiculous amount of attention.
An Kefan slung her backpack up to shield her face, hunched over, and quickly scurried inside. With her vision obstructed, she stumbled into a few people along the way.
Thankfully, this was Peking University—everyone had good manners. No one scolded her; those who got bumped simply gave her a puzzled look.
After all, she looked just like someone with a guilty conscience, the kind who’d bury silver under a rock and loudly declare it wasn’t there.
Inside the car, Qi Du had one hand on the wheel and kept sneaking glances at the girl in the passenger seat beside him.
“Miss Su, are you comfortable? Do you get carsick?”
Sports cars were a guy’s dream. The control, the thrill, the speed—it was intoxicating. But for the passenger, the experience wasn’t always so great.
He was worried Su Ci might be uncomfortable, but he also really wanted to show off in front of her.
Su Ci gave a soft smile. Her eyes shimmered, reflecting the soft hues of the sunset sky—so bright, so mesmerizing.
“Thank you for the ride back. But honestly…”
Qi Du’s heart jumped into his throat. He swallowed nervously.
“I think you could’ve driven faster. The way you just drove… felt like a retiree on a joyride. I like the feeling of freedom—the wind rushing past me.”
Even if her gentle demeanor was all for show, that line had come straight from the heart.
None of Su Ci’s past boyfriends had dared drive a supercar. Even sitting in the passenger seat left them pale, nauseous, and ready to vomit.
Before she even finished speaking, the multimillion-dollar sports car let out a sharp growl and shot forward like a phantom in the night, weaving past pedestrians and flying down the boulevard.
An Kefan stood there, stunned. She bit her lower lip so hard it drained of all color.
Beside her, a guy muttered under his breath, “Damn! Not even one of us. What the hell’s he showing off for in front of our gate? Can’t stand these try-hards.”
For some reason, those words made An Kefan breathe a little easier.
Thank god Qi Du hadn’t seen her. Otherwise, he’d be clinging to her like a rabid dog again.
That girl—Su Ci—was beautiful. She’d even been chosen to be his tutor. And yet, Qi Du hadn’t taken her back to school himself?
Back when An Kefan was his tutor, Qi Du used to show up an hour early, bearing flowers, gifts, and sweet treats.
After their sessions, he didn’t just drive her back to the campus gate. No—he followed her all the way to her dorm, watching longingly.
Her classmates had teased her, saying she was dating some rich campus boyfriend.
Thinking about that now, An Kefan figured Qi Du wasn’t as obsessed with Su Ci as he had been with her.
That meant she didn’t need to feel guilty. Su Ci would be fine. She wouldn’t end up walking the same tragic path An Kefan had in her past life.
Qi Du drove Su Ci around the university several times.
Only when the sky turned completely dark and the front gate emptied out did he finally, reluctantly, park the car.
“Miss Su, can I pick you up again tomorrow? There’s still the Pagani, Koenigsegg, Porsche, Ferrari…”
Halfway through listing his fleet, his brash, cocky voice faltered.
Su Ci was tutoring to make ends meet, which probably meant her family wasn’t doing well. Would this come off as him flaunting his wealth?
“Sorry, I just wanted to…”
…pick the flashiest car to pick you up, so every day you’d see how cool I am.
Su Ci had read the original novel.
In the book, Qi Du had made a huge scene sending An Kefan back to school.
The ostentatious gesture attracted tons of attention. The next day, campus forums blew up with posts like “Girl from Peking U who stepped out of a Bugatti.”
Her classmates just teased her, her roommates praised how good-looking her boyfriend was—but An Kefan had been furious, skipped tutoring for a whole week.
Of course, the 2000 yuan-per-hour tutoring rate still got paid in full.
To apologize, Qi Du immediately tracked down the forum poster and had the post deleted. He sent transfer after transfer, even disguised himself as a delivery guy to send her gifts.
An Kefan ignored him—but she accepted every payment without fail.
After a few days of this, Qi Du assumed she’d cooled off.
To avoid making the same mistake, Qi Du asked her which car she preferred next time and if there was anything she wanted.
“You think money makes you special? All that money you spend on cars—you think it isn’t wrung out of your company’s workers? You really think you’re better than the rest of us?”
“Throwing money at everything—have you ever thought about how I feel? Oh, right. A young master like you would never respect people!”
“Everyone says I’m just chasing a rich guy. That’s what you think too, right? That’s why you keep flaunting your money—to humiliate me!”
WeChat voice messages max out at 60 seconds—but An Kefan’s rage didn’t.
So Qi Du parked the car on the roadside, looked up a tutorial, and rented a shared bicycle for the first time. He threw away the bouquet and pearl bracelet he’d bought.
He waited outside her dorm. When asked by her roommates, he lied and said the car was rented, that his family wasn’t well off.
An Kefan happened to see this, and once again, her face went cold for no reason.
Especially when she learned he’d thrown away her gift. She insisted on going to find it, even though he offered to buy her another one.
The two of them ended up chasing down a garbage truck under the scorching sun, pedaling rental bikes across half the city. Eventually, they found the dirty bracelet at a waste processing plant.
Now the same situation had landed on Su Ci’s shoulders.
She didn’t answer right away. Instead, she gave it some serious thought—and even pulled out her phone to search for sports car models right in front of him.
“Do you have a Porsche 918? Pink would go really well with the summer sunset.”
Qi Du froze for a second—then lit up with joy.
“Of course I do. Whatever Miss Su wants, she’ll have.”
Even if I don’t, I will. And it has to be pink!
Heart pounding, Qi Du walked around to open the passenger door for her.
Only a few students lingered near the gate.
When Qi Du stepped out, they barely glanced at the flashy car. Their first thought? Who’s this showoff trying to flex in front of Peking U?
But the moment they saw the girl stepping out from the passenger seat—fair-skinned, delicate features, a body straight out of a video game—they all fell silent.
The dim lighting only enhanced her beauty, as if she glowed just by standing there.
Next to her, the multimillion-dollar sports car and the handsome young man faded into background clutter.
Actually, they kind of ruined the picture.
Because the tall boy instinctively moved to shield her from prying eyes. Anyone who stared too long got a sharp glare in return.
Someone’s soda fizzed and exploded, another dropped their cheese hotdog mid-bite—but no one noticed.
Even the street sweeper auntie paused. She didn’t scold the student for littering.
One glance: What a stunning girl.
Quickly swept up the fallen cheese dog—gotta make a good impression!
After nearly a minute of stunned silence, someone finally remembered to take a photo.
But by then, the girl under the streetlight—like a goddess—had already vanished.
Even the few who had high-resolution cameras only managed to capture a near-perfect side profile.
The regret was palpable.
