- Chapter 70 - The School Bully with Split Personality (19) - “I’m Fighting Myself for My Girlfriend”
Feng Yan casually stuffed the notebook back into the drawer.
It wasn’t that he meant to hide things from his wife—he just didn’t want to scare her. After all, what girl could accept that her boyfriend was half-human, half-ghost?
He was worried, but kept a calm face as he fished out the keys and opened the storage room door downstairs.
“Su—cough, honey, wait outside, okay? It’s too dusty in here. I’ll go in and find it myself. I’ll be quick.”
A string of clattering noises came from the storage room.
Moments later, Feng Yan emerged covered in dust, holding the household registration booklet. His sweaty face glowed with excitement and anticipation.
“Honey, let me clean up, and we’ll head to the civil affairs bureau today to register our marriage!”
He was so excited he took off like a shot. Su Ci couldn’t even stop him.
Silly boy. The bureau doesn’t open on weekends.
Also, he hadn’t reached the legal marriage age yet.
After taking yet another shower, dressing in a tailored suit, leather shoes, tie, styling his hair, and doing a full skincare routine, Feng Yan was hit by the double blow. He stood there like he’d been struck by lightning—devastated.
Why… why was he still only twenty-one?
So much could happen in a single year. What if she fell for someone else? Would he still be able to use this excuse to marry her?
Not being able to get married meant: no living together, no cuddling and kissing whenever he wanted, no sleeping in the same bed, no chance to stake his claim over her in front of other flirty guys, no anniversaries…
By the time he’d listed every possible downside of not being legally married, Feng Yan was practically on the verge of tears.
Su Ci could only soothe him gently.
“Couples can still do those things too. If I want to kiss you right now, would you say no?”
Feng Yan shook his head without hesitation. Then he paused, cautiously asking:
“Am I allowed to say no? Your lips… seem kinda swollen.”
Excuse. That was just an excuse!
Faced with his soft, fragrant girlfriend, there wasn’t a shred of resistance left in him. But still—what if that thing inside him took control again?
It was just a little while ago—it had kissed her until her lips were swollen!
Shameless! Lewd! Perverted beast in human skin!
Su Ci lightly bumped her cheek against his.
“It’s okay. Don’t force yourself. I’ll always like Student Feng, so let’s take it slow. We’ll get used to being together, one step at a time. Alright?”
“Okay, honey.”
Feng Yan wanted to say he wasn’t forcing himself.
But he felt like someone chewing bitter herbs in silence, unable to speak of the pain.
Damn it! Just what the hell had taken over his body?!
To get to the bottom of it, Feng Yan spent the rest of the afternoon clearing out the storage room. When he powered on the computer, a strange email popped up.
The sender was him.
The recipient… was also him.
Feng Yan clicked it open—and was instantly blinded by the crude, raunchy garbage written inside. His face turned bright red.
[Hey, just asking—how do you and your girlfriend spend your nights? Got a bedtime story routine or movie tradition? Do you cuddle chest-to-chest or spoon? If she needs something else… do you manage frequency and timing? Ah wait, guess you wouldn’t know. If you did, she wouldn’t be turning to me.]
Feng Yan: “…?”
He wouldn’t know?
That ghost thing sure had a hell of an imagination!
Feng Yan deleted the email with a grim expression. No wonder he kept having memory blackouts—turns out that thing had been using his body to do God-knows-what to his wife!
What if he’d woken up just a little later?
Would they have already had a kid?!
With an increasingly cold expression, Feng Yan headed upstairs and yanked open the drawer by the bed, pulling out a notebook. On the second page, in messy chicken-scratch handwriting, he saw:
[Feng Yan is a total bastard. He steals everything from me—even my girl?]
[So sick of this. Who wants his stupid selfies? I, Jin Ran, never change my name or surname. Next time there’s a campus heartthrob poll, I’m blowing him out of the water!]
[Sneaking around with my baby tonight. So thrilling.]
[She personally picked out our couple rings. What now? Once I put it on, I never want to take it off. I wish Feng Yan could see for himself who she really loves.]
[…]
Jin Ran?
That punk who looked exactly like him?
Feng Yan’s gut clenched.
Maybe this wasn’t about similar appearances at all.
Being mistaken for someone else at school… unfamiliar items showing up at home… those random memory blackouts… a terrifying thought began clawing its way to the surface.
Feng Yan’s heart pounded wildly.
Could it be… he and Jin Ran were the same person?
It was the worst possible scenario.
So much so that even while out for lunch with his wife, Feng Yan was totally distracted—he accidentally popped a shrimp shell into his mouth instead of the shrimp and crunched down hard.
Jin Ran, who’d finally gotten a brief moment in control, realized his mouth was full of grit and his hand was holding a decorative clove of garlic—about to bite into it.
“…”
Damn it! That peasant’s trying to sabotage my ability to kiss my baby!
He chucked the garlic away on the spot and rushed to the restroom—not for business, but to ask the front desk for mouthwash and gum. He scrubbed his mouth in front of the mirror like a man possessed.
In the reflection, the boy’s eyes and expression kept shifting. He muttered to himself like a crazy person.
A little kid washing his hands nearby tugged his dad’s sleeve.
“Daddy, look! That big brother plays pretend so well. He’s really talking to himself—like it’s real!”
Feng Yan / Jin Ran: “…”
Once the kid was gone, Jin Ran sneered:
“Tsk. Just a few hours and you already can’t take it? Maybe count how long I’ve been locked away—since last night.”
Falling asleep holding his sweet baby in his arms, only to wake up locked in a godforsaken black void, while someone else kissed his girl in his place?
At least he managed to break out for a while.
But the result?!
Right when things were getting good—he fizzled out! Got kicked back into that cold, dark box again!
And he’d been stuck there ever since!
Feng Yan:
“My name’s on the ID and the household register. No one’s ever going to recognize you as a separate entity. You don’t even need to exist.”
Jin Ran:
“My baby recognizes me.”
Feng Yan choked. This bastard was too quick-witted, and his wife was way too kind—far too tolerant of this silver-tongued scoundrel.
Jin Ran suggested,
“How about we settle this with a fight? Winner gets to take our baby on a date. Loser still benefits—didn’t you feel it when she kissed me?”
There was no doubt in his mind he’d win.
Feng Yan didn’t want to agree, but he remembered that damned notebook. Jin Ran had written something like:
“Whether it’s looks or body, I totally outclass Feng Yan. Baby choosing me as her lover is the smartest decision ever.”
Their consciousnesses clashed in that black void like a cataclysmic storm.
Meanwhile, their shared body—completely unattended—slammed into the edge of the sink. Their handsome face took a solid hit.
Jin Ran had been in the restroom way too long.
Worried, Su Ci went to check and found him collapsed on the floor. His pupils were dilated, skin ice-cold, limbs twitching every now and then. It was terrifying.
She immediately called 120 for an ambulance. The restaurant staff helped carry him out to wait by the road.
At the hospital, after running a full set of tests, the doctor found… nothing wrong. He awkwardly tried to reassure her.
“This is typical with DID. He should wake up soon. I’ll come check on him later. Here’s my number—if anything happens after discharge, feel free to—”
Before he could finish, the boy in the hospital bed snatched the business card, tore it into four pieces, and tossed it in the trash.
Feng Yan / Jin Ran:
“Don’t try to hit on my wife/baby with that crap. Even if you were a woman, it’s still a no. I’m not sick. Bye.”
Female doctor: “…”
Look into my eyes!
You really think your brain’s totally fine?!
