Rebirth: Daily Face Slaps - Chapter 158
“Vacation?”
And a ten-day vacation at that?!
Manager Ding rubbed his aching forehead, leaned back in his chair, and frowned slightly. “Xiao Lin, I know everyone is busy as the end of the year approaches. If you need to take a day or two off, I can consider it. But taking a whole ten days off—who am I supposed to find to cover for you?”
“Although you’re a salesperson and don’t need to be in the office from nine to six like regular employees, you can see how everyone’s been overwhelmed these past two months. Everyone wishes they had three heads and six arms. If I give you ten days off, what do you think others will say?”
This was a strong argument. But in fact, the logistics industry’s busiest time wasn’t January but December! Especially this year, with an early Lunar New Year, after New Year’s Day, there would only be about a week of busyness before things slowed down.
And now, it was already January 12th.
There were only ten days left until the New Year!
So technically, Lin Mengting was just taking her annual leave early.
Of course, she couldn’t say this directly to avoid embarrassing Manager Ding. So she explained softly, “Manager Ding, the G Province Calligraphy and Painting Association is holding an impromptu cultural exchange event to engage with the community and spread joy. They specifically want young people like us to participate…”
“G Province Calligraphy and Painting Association?!” Manager Ding looked at Lin Mengting with a mix of surprise and doubt. “I remember you’re a member of the S City Calligraphy and Painting Association. When did you join the G Province Association? Why didn’t you tell us so we could celebrate for you?”
“It was a lucky break. During the recent exhibition at the Youth Palace, some esteemed seniors appreciated my submitted works. With the association’s focus on nurturing young talent, I was accepted into the G Province Calligraphy and Painting Association as ‘new blood.'”
Her casual explanation carried a strong sense of confidence.
Indeed, even though Manager Ding was an “outsider,” he knew there was a significant gap between city-level and provincial-level associations, almost like a chasm.
And it wasn’t a gap that just anyone could easily cross in a few months!
Therefore, someone like Lin Mengting, who achieved such a feat on her own, had no reason to be overly humble.
In an instant, numerous thoughts flashed through Manager Ding’s mind, but he managed a fitting smile of admiration. “That’s wonderful news.”
…
On the second day of Lin Mengting’s vacation, a young florist arrived at Hongxing Company with a large bouquet of vibrant red roses.
“Excuse me, is Miss Lin Mengting here?”
“Miss Lin?” Sun Lina, the receptionist who was friends with Lin Mengting, looked at the florist with curiosity and confusion. “She’s on vacation and won’t be back until after the New Year.”
The florist hesitated before asking, “Can you tell me where she lives? We need to deliver these flowers to her personally today.”
“Sorry, we can’t provide her address,” Sun Lina said apologetically. She would have loved to help the florist and tease Lin Mengting about it, but company policy required employee information to remain confidential.
After thinking for a moment, Sun Lina suggested, “Maybe you can call the person who ordered the flowers and inform them of the situation.”
The florist considered this and, thanking Sun Lina, left with the bouquet.
“I counted earlier—there are eighteen roses! And they’re imported, too!” Another receptionist, a young girl, said enviously. “I wonder which handsome guy is so generous!”
“How do you know they’re imported?” Sun Lina asked curiously. She couldn’t tell the difference between imported and domestic roses.
“Imported roses have a purer, deeper color and look much prettier than domestic ones,” the girl explained. She had several relatives who owned flower shops and often worked there during vacations. While she wasn’t an expert, she knew enough to impress her peers.
…
“What did you say?!” Zheng Gang’s eyes were filled with surprise and disbelief. “She’s not there? Did you ask clearly?!”
Hearing the suspicion and questioning in Zheng Gang’s voice, the young florist felt a bit aggrieved but, adhering to the principle that “the customer is always right,” suppressed his frustration and explained, “Her colleagues said Miss Lin is on vacation and won’t be back until after the New Year.”
“You just believed what they said?!” Zheng Gang almost laughed in anger. Despite specifically instructing the florist to send someone “smart” for the delivery!
And yet…
The florist still got “fooled” by Lin Mengting!
“…” The florist didn’t know how to respond, thinking to himself Who would lie about something like that?!
Shaking his head, Zheng Gang sighed, “You young people are so unreliable. You got tricked by such an obvious lie!”
“Sir, what should we do with the flowers?” The florist didn’t want to argue further. If he had to go to such lengths to explain, what was the point?
“Send them again tomorrow,” Zheng Gang ordered without thinking. He didn’t believe Lin Mengting would ignore the florist’s efforts without offering help!
Even if she was cold-hearted, in a company environment, she’d still need to put on an act. So, there was no way the flowers wouldn’t reach her.
The florist weakly replied, “But they said she’s on vacation until after the New Year.”
“Just deliver them as instructed. Stop arguing!” Zheng Gang felt the flower shop’s service was terrible. Next time, he’d find a different one!
With that, Zheng Gang hung up decisively.
As for how the florist would manage to get the flowers to Lin Mengting, that was the florist’s problem.
There’s always a way if you try hard enough…
