Chapter 420: The Dusk Temple
A month passed quickly as Helag spent his time in seclusion at the inn, waiting for the day Operation Cradle would commence.
The Wizard Alliance’s carriage arrived early at the Rose Inn to escort Helag to a place called the Dusk Temple.
The Dusk Temple was a renowned location in the Central Region, one Helag had heard of before.
When the expedition team discovered a plane worth conquering, they recorded its coordinates.
If the target plane was a mid-tier or a well-developed low-tier plane, a stable spatial passage was necessary.
Once established, a teleportation point was set up, linking it to the spatial passage.
This connection allowed personnel to enter the target plane through the teleportation point.
The Dusk Temple housed many such teleportation points.
The temple’s name derived from its ancient origins as a temple.
In fact, the entire Central Region was built around the Dusk Temple.
The temple existed before the Central Region and the Land of Dawn.
Long before the Land of Dawn emerged, the Dusk Temple stood in this place.
No one knows its original purpose, and it remains a mystery.
With little historical documentation from that era, mostly existing as murals, uncovering its past is challenging.
Wizards discovered the Dusk Temple’s remarkable stability.
Constructed from a unique gray-white stone, unmatched anywhere in the wizard plane, the temple’s material was exceptionally durable.
Ordinary first-level spells couldn’t damage it.
Only with rule power could it be harmed.
This durability is why the Dusk Temple has endured for so long.
Now protected by the Wizard Alliance, unauthorized access is prohibited, let alone damage.
The temple’s interior also stabilized any constructed teleportation points.
Spatial teleportation points are vulnerable to instability.
If a point fails, first and second-level wizards have little chance of survival.
Third-level wizards might survive, depending on luck.
Upon discovering the temple’s properties, the Land of Dawn’s wizards established many teleportation points there.
The Dusk Temple significantly contributed to the success of plane wars, ensuring smooth operations.
As Helag stepped from the carriage, he immediately noticed the towering Dusk Temple.
The temple’s structure was simple, even crude.
Massive stone blocks formed the structure, supported by colossal pillars requiring hundreds to encircle.
The architecture exuded an ancient aura, clearly built by long-gone civilizations.
A gathering area lay before the temple, bustling with people.
Approaching, Helag realized it was an identity checkpoint, mandatory for all entering the temple.
Presenting his communication stone, Helag quickly passed the check and was allowed entry.
At the temple’s entrance, Helag grasped its immense scale.
Standing beside a pillar, he felt like an ant.
The door’s proportions suggested it wasn’t designed for humans.
Towering over a thousand meters, the door seemed fit for divine beings.
Entering, Helag felt like he’d stumbled into a giant’s realm, everything magnified.
For humans, the temple’s interior was vast, more like a plain than a palace.
Wizards had constructed numerous facilities, dividing the space, obstructing Helag’s view.
Within range, Helag saw spatial teleportation facilities and points.
“You’re here,” Bennings noted, spotting Helag at the entrance.
Helag nodded, approaching Bennings, noticing Medel, Malcolm, and others present.
Despite the hundreds gathered, the vastness made the crowd seem sparse.
Nearby, Medel was surrounded by subordinates, all participants in Operation Cradle.
Opposite Medel stood a bearded middle-aged man, speaking to him, “Medel, you’re a promising Taylor family descendant. You must succeed in Operation Cradle. And everyone, please assist him. If successful, the Taylor family will reward you generously.”
“Rest assured, Mr. Reis, we’ll do our utmost to help Lord Medel become the World Master.”
Reis, Medel’s father and a second-level wizard, was a key Taylor family figure.
These people rarely interacted with such influential figures, eagerly pledging their support.
Helag shifted his gaze to Malcolm, who coincidentally looked over.
Malcolm gestured across his neck, his intent clear.
Helag smiled, “Alright, I’ll oblige and behead you right here.”
His voice, wrapped in magic, reached Malcolm’s ears.
Malcolm chuckled, seemingly mocking Helag’s naivety.
Bennings addressed the crowd, “Everyone’s here. A few reminders: Operation Cradle is starting, with no time limit, ending when someone seizes world control. In World X-617, you can activate the magical tool we’ll provide. Once activated, you’ll be transported back.”
“So, if you encounter danger or are seriously injured, activate the tool immediately.”
“Most importantly, this is the World Scepter, a second-tier magical tool, capable of controlling weaker world wills.”
With a flash, Bennings revealed a wooden scepter, about twenty centimeters long.
