Chapter 458: The Search
Even though Helag was in this different plane, he still wouldn’t wear Medel’s ring.
If another wizard spotted it, it could cause trouble.
Medel’s backing was too powerful, and Helag didn’t want to provoke them.
Helag then began sorting through the contents of Medel’s spatial ring.
There was an enormous amount of stuff inside. Gold coins were piled up like a small mountain—there were likely hundreds of thousands of them. Helag couldn’t understand why Medel would store so many coins in his ring.
There were also magic stones, about 150,000 of them, all stacked together.
From a distance, they looked like a pile of coal.
Helag rummaged through the ring and found Medel’s rune stone.
He immediately destroyed it to eliminate any potential future threats.
Helag also noticed rows of barrels, all filled with wine.
In addition to the wine, there was plenty of food, water, and other essential supplies. Medel had prepared thoroughly.
The ring contained very few potion ingredients—mostly just finished potions.
It seemed Medel didn’t bother making potions himself and preferred to buy them ready-made. After all, he wasn’t short on money.
Helag also found several first- and second-tier magical tools, but more than half of them bore the Taylor family’s insignia.
These items were fine for use in this plane, but if Helag returned to the wizard plane, they would be unusable.
Using them would immediately expose him, just like the ring.
Helag wasn’t particularly interested in the magical tools. He was searching for something specific.
After digging through the ring for a while, he found nothing but standard spell model books and a few works by famous wizards—no other books or parchment with important information.
Helag had hoped that, since Medel came from the Taylor family, there might be some family spell inheritance or valuable documents.
But after searching thoroughly, he found nothing of the sort.
Helag figured that the Taylor family wouldn’t allow Medel to take such important knowledge out with him.
He sighed. Although he hadn’t found what he most wanted, the haul was still substantial.
The contents of the spatial ring represented a considerable fortune.
Aside from the items marked with obvious insignia, the gold coins and magic stones were all usable.
As for the magical tools, Helag didn’t plan to use or sell them in the wizard plane.
Magical tools weren’t mass-produced; each one was handcrafted.
Even those without insignia could still be recognized by someone.
Better safe than sorry. These tools wouldn’t be of much use to Helag anyway, and selling them wouldn’t fetch much, so it wasn’t worth the risk.
After stowing away Medel’s spatial ring, Helag glanced at the Sanctuary and then turned to leave.
It wasn’t safe to stay here any longer.
Helag used spatial teleportation at intervals to travel quickly, making sure to leave the area as fast as possible.
Since he was deep in the mountains, he didn’t have to worry about being seen while using spatial teleportation, which allowed him to move with fewer concerns.
Helag had no intention of returning to Greenfield City, so he didn’t head toward the mountain entrance.
His original plan had been to kill Medel and then absorb as much demonic aura as possible in this plane.
Ever since discovering the benefits of demonic aura and realizing he could absorb it, Helag had come to see this world as a great place to continually strengthen himself.
“I wonder if I’ll awaken any exorcist abilities,” Helag mused.
By the standards of the exorcist power system, he was still just an apprentice exorcist.
Once he became a full-fledged exorcist, he would awaken his own unique ability.
Helag wasn’t sure if someone from the wizard plane like him could awaken an exorcist ability.
As he traveled through the mountains, Helag pressed on for several hours before heading north, where the main roads were located.
He hadn’t wasted the past few days and had memorized the local maps.
As long as the maps were accurate, he was heading in the right direction.
As he neared the outskirts of the mountains, Helag reverted from his Titan form and took out another dose of Shapeshifter Potion, changing his appearance once more.
This time, he made himself look more presentable, with a sturdier build compared to his previous frail form.
Helag had realized that looking too weak could lead others to underestimate him, which might cause unnecessary trouble. A more average appearance would suffice.
He donned a set of clothes and armor, slinging a long sword over his back.
His next destination was Amy City, a large metropolis.
The distribution of demons was somewhat linked to human populations—the more people, the more demons.
In remote places like Greenfield City, the number of demons was relatively low, and most were confined to the mountains.
The demons there had their own territories and rarely ventured out.
Helag’s goal was to hunt demons and absorb their demonic aura. If he had to search for demons in the mountains, it would be far too inefficient.
The mountains simply didn’t have enough demons to meet Helag’s needs. The pace would be too slow.
But in a populous place like Amy City, things were different. There were plenty of demons in the surrounding areas.
Amy City, with its large population, was a hotspot for demon activity.
Such places also had a high demand for exorcists, so Helag wouldn’t have to worry about finding work.
Helag planned to operate in Amy City as an apprentice exorcist. In addition to absorbing demonic aura, he would also keep an eye out for any signs of other wizards.
Over the past few days, Helag had been wondering if there was an expedition team from the wizard plane in this world.
He had come to the conclusion that there probably was.
Helag’s reasoning centered around the teleportation rings. The rings worked by transmitting through established spatial channels, with the coordinates merely serving as a record.
These coordinates couldn’t be random; without a spatial channel, teleportation wouldn’t work.
This led to the conclusion that the plane he was currently in must have an established spatial channel with the wizard plane.
In the wizard plane, the most likely group capable of establishing such a channel was the Wizard Alliance’s expedition team.
Unless the Abyss cultists had also set up a spatial channel, but if they had, it would likely lead to the Abyss, not here.
Helag still didn’t know why the coordinates in the teleportation ring had changed.
But even if they had, the ring still belonged to a plane with an established spatial channel, meaning there was a high probability that the expedition team was present in this world.
We are currently recruiting. CN/KR/JP Translators/MTLers are welcome!
