Song Tan’s Chronicle - Chapter 74
Hearing Song Tan’s words, Sun Shouping’s expression changed subtly. However, he quickly suppressed his emotions, sighed, and patted the four dogs on their heads.
“They’ve always been given simple names based on their numbers. Once they’re home, you can give them proper names. They’ll get used to it quickly; they’re very smart.”
Song Tan nodded. With these four, she now had seven dogs.
Although naming them was challenging, she was prepared: “By the way, can you make dog tags here?”
Sun Shouping smiled. “Of course! All the tags on the dogs here were made by me. Think of some names, and I’ll make the tags for you.”
He then went inside, returning with familiar items for each dog—mats, towels, plush toys, and chew balls—packing them all into boxes with reluctance.
Together, they left the area, the remaining dogs whimpering softly as they watched their companions leave.
Even the normally quiet Cane Corso turned back and barked once, causing the other dogs to fall silent and watch them go.
Sun Shouping’s eyes reddened slightly as he explained, “They’re used to people coming to pick dogs. It’s normal.”
Outside, they found Zhang Yanping playing with the puppies, completely absorbed and oblivious to their approach.
It wasn’t until the puppies suddenly quieted and ran over that he turned around—
“Whoa!”
“These four dogs look really spirited!”
He gave Sun Shouping a hearty slap on the shoulder:
“Thanks, man! You’re the best—how much did these cost?”
Song Tan answered, “Three thousand each.”
Zhang Yanping was moved:
“Bro, I didn’t realize you’d go this far…”
He rummaged through his pockets and finally pulled out a plastic-wrapped cold bun:
“I can’t repay you enough for your kindness. I saved this bun just for you.”
Sun Shouping’s sentimental mood vanished instantly!
He grabbed the bun aggressively: “Fine! I’ll eat this tonight!”
Seeing Zhang Yanping’s mock serious expression, he shook his head:
“And you told me your sister was a novice. How could a novice pick dogs so accurately? She chose the best ones here! Usually, I wouldn’t part with them.”
Despite his grumbling, he was impressed. Song Tan’s picks were indeed the top dogs in terms of health and obedience.
Zhang Yanping was also surprised.
Song Tan sighed. “Yanping, I really don’t have experience picking dogs. These dogs just have good taste and recognized my potential. What could I do?”
Zhang Yanping withdrew his gaze.
Whether his cousin had experience or not, her ability to make deals was impressive.
Thinking about the three thousand yuan per dog, he was at a loss for words.
He pointed outside. “Is that your customer? He’s been smoking there for a while.”
There were over ten cigarette butts on the ground.
Sun Shouping looked over and sighed.
“Let him be. He needs to vent.”
Song Tan was curious. “What kind of dog does he have? It looks huge, bigger than the ones I picked.”
Sun Shouping’s pride was evident:
“That’s a Turkish Kangal!”
“I don’t have any adults here, only puppies, so you haven’t seen one.”
Zhang Yanping had heard of them but wasn’t sure. “Is that the Anatolian Shepherd?”
Sun Shouping laughed. “You’re only half right. This is a true Turkish Kangal, not an Anatolian. They can easily defeat a Tibetan Mastiff—true fierce dogs!”
“In Turkey, they have the right to live as citizens. Do you know what they’re called?”
“—God’s pets!”
“In China, pandas have special status. In Turkey, it’s the Kangal.”
Zhang Yanping’s eyes lit up with the thought of money.
“With such a pedigree, breeding must be profitable!”
Sun Shouping sighed. “Money, money, money! Is that all you think about?”
“A puppy here costs twenty thousand yuan. Don’t even think about it.”
“And even if you could afford it, they’re not easy to keep. They eat more in a meal than you do in a week. Without substantial wealth, I wouldn’t sell one.”
Zhang Yanping glanced at the silent SUV and the man still smoking gloomily:
“Did he buy one but can’t afford it and wants a refund?”
Sun Shouping sighed again.
“Yes.”
“Returning a dog that’s bonded with its owner is tough for me too.”
“But he genuinely loves the dog.”
“The puppy, plus training fees, cost thirty thousand yuan. He personally came to pick the dog, then bought a large car to transport it.”
“Just to keep it, he built a villa in the countryside.”
“He didn’t buy the dog for show, but out of true love!”
Then, business went bad, and he lost everything except a small city apartment for his child’s schooling.
He had to sell the villa.
“And the city doesn’t allow such big dogs.”
“And this dog eats too much. To keep it healthy and active, it could eat a hundred pounds a day.”
Zhang Yanping gasped.
Sun Shouping laughed. “Not quite that much. I meant if it’s fully active. Normally, it’s not that much, and it doesn’t all have to be meat.”
But still, the numbers were terrifying.
Zhang Yanping’s interest in big dogs waned instantly.
“I really can’t afford that.”
And such a large dog, if it got aggressive, would be hard to control. He didn’t dare to keep one.
Sun Shouping chuckled. “Kangals are fierce but not aggressive. They’re gentle with children and very loyal. But their size alone is intimidating…”
He looked at the SUV with a sigh:
“This dog knows its owner is struggling and has been eating only a pound or two of meat per meal for a week.”
“The owner cried every time he watched it eat.”
“Friends offered to help, but the dog wouldn’t accept a new owner.”
“He came early today to ask if I could take it back.”
