Song Tan’s Chronicle - Chapter 76
Wang Zhen watched his beloved King, who was now obediently walking beside Song Tan, and his eyes reddened.
Look at his King, so majestic!
When he runs, his ears flap up and down, and his movements are as graceful as a jungle tiger!
His dear King, so lovable… but now… Wang Zhen’s heart ached, and tears streamed down his face.
In the distance, the Kangal, who was trotting alongside Song Tan, seemed to sense something and quickly turned around.
He saw his owner, tears streaming down his face, dressed in a wrinkled coat, with yellowed fingers pressing against his face. Wang Zhen’s shoulders shook with sobs, faintly audible in the wind.
Without hesitation, the Kangal abandoned Song Tan and sprinted back, slowing down only as he approached his owner.
Finally, he whimpered and walked up to Wang Zhen, licking his tears with his tongue.
“Woof!”
He barked loudly.
Wang Zhen’s body shook, and he couldn’t help but hug him tightly. “King! King! My King, sob sob sob…”
The Kangal stood up, its strong front legs resting on Wang Zhen’s shoulders, patiently enduring as his owner clung to him, burying his face in his chest, soaking it with tears.
Song Tan watched quietly. Though the scene was touching, for some reason, she felt a bit like laughing.
But it was clear that this Kangal was truly gentle.
After a long while, Wang Zhen finally managed to stop crying, still sniffling.
Song Tan, noticing he was struggling to get his hands into his pockets, pulled out two tissues and handed them to him.
Wang Zhen grabbed them and wiped his face haphazardly before choking out, “Take good care of him, take good care of him…”
“He’s such a good boy… sob sob my King…”
Seeing him about to cry again, Song Tan sighed inwardly.
Sun Shouping had said this Kangal was good with children. It seemed to treat everyone like a baby, including its owner.
The man cried at the drop of a hat, no wonder he cried just watching the dog eat. He was just too emotional.
She could only reassure him again. “Don’t worry, I can afford to feed him.”
Wang Zhen chuckled through his tears. “What a tall tale, girl. Judging by your clothes, you can’t afford to feed him a thousand yuan a day.”
Song Tan: …
I did exaggerate a bit, but I never planned to feed him that much meat anyway. But did you really have to say it out loud?
Wang Zhen lovingly stroked the Kangal’s head. “This dog is named King. You can change his name if you want or keep it.”
“I see he likes you, which is rare. I’ve had so many friends meet him regularly, and he never accepted any of them. But he likes you.”
He sighed, clearly having made up his mind.
“As for food, don’t listen to Sun. He tends to exaggerate. When I bought King, he said the dog could eat a hundred pounds of meat a day, which scared me. But I had money back then and wanted to show off, so I agreed.”
“Who knew, once I got home, Sun told me the truth: only Kangal hunting bears and tigers abroad eat that much.”
“Here, without much exercise, eating that much would just make him fat.”
Thinking about it, Wang Zhen shook his head. He had prepared himself mentally for a long time before making the decision.
If he had known earlier, he wouldn’t have stressed so much over convincing his family!
“Basically, he’s not picky. Feed him like a Golden Retriever. Give him meat if you can, but he’ll eat dog food too.”
“Sun doesn’t feed his dogs that much meat either. A thousand yuan a day, thirty thousand a month… how much would he have to sell the dogs for to make a profit?”
“I was just too naive and believed him.”
Song Tan was also speechless.
If Sun had told the truth from the start, feeding Kangal like a Golden Retriever, people wouldn’t be so scared of their appetite.
But then again, even on dog food, it would still take a big bag. If you can’t afford it, you just can’t.
Wang Zhen handed her a large, shallow enameled bowl, about thirty centimeters in diameter.
“Fill this bowl with dog food each time, and add three to five pounds of meat if you can. If not, dog food will do.”
“Our King is very polite when he eats and never spills food.”
He sighed, petting the Kangal’s neck. “Here, without much exercise, he eats about two to three times as much as a Golden Retriever.”
Then he took out a booklet from the box.
“This has his favorite foods, vaccination records, deworming records, and his license.”
“If you keep him in the countryside, you can decide whether to renew it.”
Wang Zhen put everything on the ground. “Girl, now you try.”
“Tell King to run slowly, hold the leash, and feel the pull. If you can manage, you’re his new owner.”
“Remember, just tug a bit. My wife and I couldn’t hold him, so be sure to let go if needed.”
He reluctantly let go, watching as Song Tan took the sturdy leash.
“Ready?”
Song Tan nodded, and he commanded:
“King! Run slowly.”
In an instant, the Kangal leaped up, his strong legs moving as he gracefully ran across the field!
Even at a trot, his speed was impressive.
What surprised Wang Zhen more was how the girl kept pace, moving swiftly without looking strained.
He recalled his and his wife’s struggles, panting and exhausted, and patted his slightly bulging stomach with a sigh.
“I’m getting old.”
Inside the dog park, Sun Shouping, chatting with an old friend, turned and was shocked.
“What’s going on? She’s really taking the Kangal?”
Zhang Yanping, peering through the fence, worriedly watched the huge, black-mouthed, yellow-furred dog.
“Can she manage?”
Song Tan knew she could.
She commanded:
“Stop!”
Then she yanked the leash. The Kangal’s movement halted abruptly, his massive body lifted as his hind legs held firm, stopping his run.
The two-meter-tall dog froze mid-air before its front paws gently touched down again.
He hadn’t moved an inch since her command.
“Holy…!”
Sun Shouping’s cigarette dropped from his fingers.
