Chapter 10: Zombie Pit, A-Level Zombie

Liang Yu spoke gravely, “The world outside has changed. It’s best if you stay here and don’t go out.”

“When I came in, I checked the layout of this department store. There’s a supermarket on the second floor, and the food there should last your family for a while.”

Li Cheng looked at Liang Yu and asked, “What about you guys?”

Hong Shan leaned over, smiling, “We’re heading to the city center police station, but we ran into a horde, with two streets packed full of zombies.”

“That’s why we took refuge here. Once the zombies outside quiet down, we’ll be on our way.”

Liang Yu added, “Yes, there are at least a hundred zombies wandering outside. We’ll leave once they disperse.”

Li Cheng’s wife, holding Dou Dou, walked over and said, “You’re going out!? There’s plenty of food in the supermarket, enough to last. No need to risk it!”

“What if something happens… You’re still young, don’t be reckless!”

Li Cheng added, “Exactly, if we stay together, there are more of us. If something happens, we can look out for each other.”

Liang Yu replied, “I appreciate your concern, but the food here will eventually run out. We can’t stay here forever.”

“Besides, this is a zombie hotspot. It’s easy to get overrun. Hiding one or two people is fine, but a group like us might be difficult.”

Hearing this, Li Cheng nodded.

Liang Yu’s analysis was spot on. While this place was good, it wasn’t safe for long. The zombies outside were fierce and brutal.

One day, they might break through the department store doors, and by then, it would be too late to run.

After a while, Li Cheng quietly said to Liang Yu, “Brother, can we talk privately?”

Liang Yu glanced at Li Cheng, who smiled, knowing Liang Yu’s strength and not daring to provoke him.

They moved to a milk tea shop counter, sitting on the chairs.

Liang Yu began, “What do you want to discuss?”

Li Cheng slowly said, “Brother, can you take my wife and child to the shelter?”

Liang Yu frowned.

Li Cheng continued, “I know it’s a big ask, but I won’t let you help for nothing. I’m a designer at the Donghai City Urban Planning Bureau. I know how to quickly reach the police station.”

“And I can help you avoid unnecessary trouble.”

After Li Cheng spoke, Liang Yu pondered.

The team already had one non-combatant, and now three more would add difficulty to the “mission.” It required careful consideration.

Reaching the police station quickly and avoiding trouble was tempting. Getting weapons from the station and then taking them to the shelter sounded good!

After about five minutes, Liang Yu said, “Alright, I’ll take you to the shelter, but you have to take us to the police station first.”

“Without weapons, fighting zombies barehanded means you could get bitten, and so could we.”

Hearing Liang Yu agree, Li Cheng happily said, “No problem, rest up, and we’ll leave soon!”

Liang Yu nodded, “Alright, take your family to the supermarket for some food. I’ll talk to my friends, and we’ll leave soon.”

“Okay.”

With that, they parted ways.

Li Cheng took a stick and went with his family to the second-floor supermarket, gathering some food as Liang Yu suggested.

Liang Yu returned to Hong Shan, who was watching Li Cheng enter the supermarket, and asked, “Old Liang, what did you discuss?”

Liang Yu didn’t hide anything, sitting on a massage chair, “Just made a deal!”

“What deal?” Lai Qingxue asked curiously from the other side.

“Li Cheng is from the Urban Planning Bureau. He knows a safe route to the police station, so the deal is he takes us there, and we take them to the shelter!”

After hearing this, Hong Shan nodded.

The deal was acceptable. They couldn’t afford to encounter such a large zombie horde again; safety was a priority.

Going to the shelter would be easy too. The police station likely had riot vehicles, making the journey smooth!

Soon, Li Cheng and his family returned, each carrying a bag full of food.

Li Cheng said to Liang Yu, “Let’s go, brother. We’re ready!”

Liang Yu nodded, and the group set off.

Li Cheng led them to the basement parking lot, and Liang Yu didn’t question it.

As they walked deeper into the parking lot, Li Cheng said to Liang Yu, “Donghai City’s sewers are extensive. It’s safe to travel through them!”

“But do you remember the way?”

Using the sewers was a good idea, but Liang Yu had his doubts.

Li Cheng smiled, “Don’t worry. I designed the sewer blueprints myself. I know every passage like the back of my hand.”

Seeing Li Cheng’s confidence, Liang Yu said nothing.

They reached a door with “No Entry” written on it.

Li Cheng took a card from his pocket, swiped it at the door handle, and it opened instantly.

Seeing the door open, Hong Shan asked, “Brother, what kind of card is that!? It even opens this door!”

Li Cheng put the card back in his pocket, “These doors connecting to the sewers are government-managed, so every Urban Planning Bureau staff card can open them. It’s for convenience and to prevent vandalism.”

Hearing Li Cheng’s explanation, they entered.

They moved the manhole cover and entered the sewers, with Liang Yu leading and Hong Shan bringing up the rear.

Inside, the sewers stank, with dead rats lining the sides and cockroaches scuttling about.

The outside’s severed limbs and stench were worse, and they were used to it, following Li Cheng’s lead.

As Li Cheng said, the sewers were extensive, requiring frequent turns. Without staff knowledge, it was a maze.

Soon, they reached a gathering pit, looking down at a mass of zombies and sludge.

The zombies heard noise and roared, but they couldn’t climb up, trapped by mud and waste.

It was a closed swamp, immobilizing the zombies.

Liu Ruyi quickly covered Dou Dou’s eyes, fearing nightmares from the sight.

Suddenly, Liang Yu felt a chill, and his zombie level detector showed an A-level zombie nearby, giving him a bad feeling.

He urged them to move, and Li Cheng led them up a ladder to another exit.

As Liang Yu held the ladder, he saw a zombie with a tilted head watching him from an exit.
