Chapter 11: Li Cheng’s Sacrifice, Liang Yu’s Fury
The zombie was indeed the A-level zombie indicated by the detector.
Liang Yu quickly climbed up, but when he turned, the A-level zombie was gone.
As he puzzled over this, he saw the A-level zombie crawling on the wall like a gecko, swiftly moving towards him.
The A-level zombie was incredibly fast and strong, and the confined space left Liang Yu uncertain about defeating it.
What to do now!?
Of course, run! Liang Yu shouted, “Run!”
Hearing this, Li Cheng and the others sprinted ahead.
Liang Yu, bringing up the rear, occasionally glanced back. The A-level zombie had entered the tunnel.
They quickened their pace, and Liang Yu pulled down nearby pipes, crossing them to block the A-level zombie.
His immense strength left Hong Shan wide-eyed—was this really a homebody’s strength!?
Clearly not. Hong Shan assumed Liang Yu had secretly been working out.
Seeing Hong Shan frozen, Liang Yu slapped his back.
“Hong Shan, what are you doing!? Run, or do you want to be zombie food!?”
Hong Shan shook his head and quickly followed Liang Yu.
Behind them, a loud crash sounded. Liang Yu turned to see the pipes smashed by the A-level zombie.
Indeed, the A-level zombie’s strength far surpassed the ordinary ones in the pit.
Hong Shan looked at Liang Yu, “Old Liang, why are we running!? It’s just one zombie, let’s take it down!”
Liang Yu replied sternly, “Take it down!? It’s a mutant zombie. I’d have chopped it up if it were ordinary!”
Hong Shan asked, puzzled, “Mutant zombie!? What’s that!?”
Liang Yu cut him off, “I’ll explain later!”
The zombie was closing in on Liang Yu, who turned and threw his only weapon, the cleaver, to stall the A-level zombie.
The cleaver spun towards the A-level zombie, which dodged, letting the blade graze its scalp, taking a chunk of flesh with it.
Liang Yu was stunned—this zombie was tough.
The A-level zombie roared at Liang Yu, the sound echoing painfully. Liang Yu covered his ears and continued fleeing.
The zombie followed, using all fours like a cheetah on the savannah.
After running for an unknown time, Li Cheng stopped, pointing to a ladder, “Climb up here to reach the police station reservoir. Take my card.”
He handed the card to Hong Shan, who pocketed it.
Hong Shan climbed the ladder first.
Pushing open the manhole, the reservoir was silent. As Hong Shan emerged, a zombie lunged at him.
Hong Shan raised his cleaver, beheading the zombie, its head rolling into the manhole.
Liu Ruyi, climbing the ladder, was startled by the falling zombie.
Li Cheng warned, “Be careful.”
Liu Ruyi nodded, climbing with Dou Dou.
Next was Lai Qingxue, leaving only Li Cheng and Liang Yu.
As they prepared to climb, the A-level zombie pounced, knocking them down and roaring.
Liang Yu kicked it away, and it clung to the wall, hanging upside down, staring at them and occasionally roaring.
Above, the others were anxious, hearing the commotion below. With no weapons, facing a mutant zombie was grim.
Hong Shan used Li Cheng’s card to open the reservoir door, found the armory, pried it open, grabbed guns and grenades, and returned.

Below, Liang Yu, though unarmed, wasn’t immediately bitten, constantly evading the A-level zombie.
Li Cheng picked up stones, attacking from a distance. Though weak, it was better than nothing.
Suddenly, Li Cheng pushed Liang Yu aside, tackling the A-level zombie, glancing back at Liang Yu.
Liang Yu instantly understood—Li Cheng was sacrificing himself to buy time for Liang Yu to escape.
The A-level zombie bit Li Cheng’s neck, blood gushing. Li Cheng held the zombie with one hand, the wound with the other, grimacing.
Blood poured from Li Cheng’s mouth as he gasped, “Go… remember… remember your promise…”
Tears streamed down Liang Yu’s face. Just then, Hong Shan arrived, armed to the teeth.
Seeing Li Cheng bitten, he was enraged, handing a gun to Liang Yu, who took it.
Hong Shan pulled the trigger, but the gun was empty.
Hong Shan was dumbfounded, while Liang Yu calmly checked the gun, found it empty, took a magazine from Hong Shan, loaded it.
Aiming, he fired, bullets tearing through the A-level zombie. Liang Yu roared in fury, shredding the zombie.
Hong Shan had never seen Liang Yu so angry. Even in gaming frustration, he wasn’t this furious.
He couldn’t understand, not knowing what had happened below.
The A-level zombie, resilient, stood despite being riddled with bullets, blood oozing from its wounds, terrifying.
Liang Yu reloaded, advancing on the zombie, firing until its limbs were severed. Facing the howling zombie, he coldly pulled the trigger, killing it.
With the A-level zombie dead, Liang Yu checked on Li Cheng, who, eyes vacant, leaned against the wall.
Seeing Liang Yu, Li Cheng gripped his hand, whispering, “Brother… help… don’t let them see me like this!”
“Ugh…”
More blood flowed from his mouth. Liang Yu, eyes red, said nothing.
Li Cheng held Liang Yu’s hand tightly, “Protect… them, get them… to the shelter!”
Liang Yu nodded.
Li Cheng smiled faintly, closing his eyes to embrace death.
Hong Shan pulled Liang Yu up, and in the next moment, Li Cheng, now a zombie, sprang up, lunging at them.
Liang Yu, holding back tears, shot Li Cheng, who fell.
The two climbed the ladder, and Hong Shan closed the manhole.
Liu Ruyi, witnessing this, understood, her eyes welling with tears.
Liang Yu dropped the gun, collapsing to his knees, sobbing.
Lai Qingxue wanted to comfort him, but Hong Shan stopped her, shaking his head.
She nodded and went to console Liu Ruyi.
