Chapter 13: Killing the Prisoner, A Mysterious Surprise
Liang Yu bent down and patted the man’s shoulder, saying, “Why would I kill you for no reason?”
“Get up and get out of here. It’s not safe.”
With that, Liang Yu stood and started walking out.
The man slowly stood up, but his expression changed—from weak to vicious.
Suddenly, the man charged at Liang Yu, but Liang Yu wasn’t caught off guard. He hadn’t let his guard down in this place—after all, it was a detention center. The police would have evacuated the civilians and prisoners during the zombie outbreak. Why would a cop be left behind?
Without even turning around, Liang Yu kicked the man squarely in the chest, sending him crashing to the ground.
Liang Yu turned slowly, looking at the man. “I gave you a chance to live, but you just had to push your luck.”
The man sneered, spitting on the ground.
“Kid, do you even know how I ended up here!?”
Liang Yu, uninterested, casually replied, “I don’t care how you got here. All I know is if you take one more step, I’ll send you straight to hell.”
The man stood up, eyes full of malice. “You know, just five days ago, I killed nineteen people!”
With that, he charged at Liang Yu, determined to kill him.
But he underestimated Liang Yu. With his system-enhanced skills, Liang Yu had taken down hordes of zombies, so a single man was no challenge.
Liang Yu sidestepped the attack effortlessly and landed a punch to the man’s side, breaking his ribs.
The man felt something was wrong—he could tell his ribs were fractured, and he wasn’t mistaken.
Since the man was trying to kill him, Liang Yu didn’t hold back, using his full strength.
Liang Yu didn’t stop. He spun around and kicked the man in the back.
Then, with disdain, Liang Yu said, “Nineteen people? Big deal. I killed over a hundred zombies this morning, and I didn’t even brag about it. But here you are, showing off.”
The man ignored Liang Yu’s words, struggling to get up and charge again. Liang Yu, now serious, pulled out his gun and fired.
In the apocalypse, this was the first human Liang Yu had killed—a murderer with nineteen lives on his hands. The bullet hit the man squarely in the forehead, and he collapsed. Liang Yu then took out his military knife and decapitated the man to prevent him from turning into a zombie.
Hearing the gunshot, Hong Shan rushed over. Seeing the headless body in a police uniform, he noticed there were no wounds—clearly, the man hadn’t turned into a zombie.
But Liang Yu had killed him. Hong Shan, not understanding, thought Liang Yu had killed a cop. He grabbed Liang Yu and slammed him against the wall.
Liang Yu, confused, shouted, “Hong Shan, what are you doing!?”
Hong Shan pointed at the body, “You killed a cop! Even in the apocalypse, that’s still a life!”
Liang Yu rolled his eyes and said, “Look closer. Is he really a cop?”
Hearing this, Hong Shan let go of Liang Yu and checked the body. He unbuttoned the shirt, revealing tattoos and scars all over the man’s body.
Liang Yu adjusted his collar, saying disdainfully, “Have you ever seen a cop covered in tattoos and scars like that?”
Hong Shan was stunned. No, he hadn’t. A cop with tattoos? Definitely not.
Realizing his mistake, Hong Shan’s face turned red with embarrassment.
Liang Yu kicked the man’s head away and said, “This guy was a murderer. I did the world a favor. Even if he survived the apocalypse, he’d still be a danger to humanity.”
Liang Yu was right. The man had killed nineteen people. If not for the delay in his execution, he’d already be dead.
By killing him, Liang Yu had rid the world of a threat.
Hong Shan stood up and patted Liang Yu’s shoulder, “Old Liang, I was wrong. Next time, I’ll check the facts before acting.”
“That’s more like it!”
With that, the two left the area to continue clearing zombies and searching for supplies.
Suddenly, Lai Qingxue’s voice came through the radio.
“Liang Yu, come quick! We found something good!”
Liang Yu and Hong Shan exchanged glances and quickly headed toward the east side.
Along the way, they passed many headless zombies, some with their heads blown apart—clearly the work of Liu Ruyi and Lai Qingxue.
Soon, they found Lai Qingxue and Liu Ruyi standing next to something covered by a tarp.
Hong Shan looked at them and asked, “Did you two take care of all those zombies!?”
Lai Qingxue, holding a bloodied weapon, replied, “Who else?”
Hong Shan gave a thumbs up, “Impressive!”
Liang Yu interrupted, “Lai Qingxue, what’s under the tarp?”
Lai Qingxue smiled mysteriously, “Why don’t you lift it and see for yourself?”
“What is it? You’re making me curious!” Liang Yu’s interest was piqued.
He signaled to Hong Shan, and the two of them lifted the tarp.
Underneath was a riot control vehicle—just like the armored vehicles in survival games!
Liang Yu and Hong Shan circled the vehicle, then leaned against it, grinning from ear to ear.
With this vehicle, they wouldn’t have to worry about zombie hordes or unexpected dangers anymore!
Lai Qingxue walked over, patting the vehicle’s side, “Well? Isn’t it great?”
Hong Shan gave another thumbs up, but Liang Yu’s expression suddenly turned serious. They had the vehicle, but what about the keys?
Liang Yu looked at Lai Qingxue, “Do we have the keys?”
Before she could answer, Liu Ruyi stepped forward, holding up a set of keys, “Already found them. We tested it—it’s the right set.”
Liang Yu looked at the keys, momentarily speechless.
After organizing their weapons, they decided to rest. It was late, and they needed sleep.
Lai Qingxue and Liu Ruyi slept in one room with Dou Dou, while Hong Shan and Liang Yu shared another.
Soon, everyone drifted into a peaceful sleep. Without zombies disturbing them, they could finally relax, and smiles crept onto their faces.
The next morning, sunlight streamed onto Liang Yu’s face, waking him. He kicked Hong Shan, who was still sleeping like a log.
Hong Shan jumped up, grabbing his weapon, looking around in panic.
Liang Yu burst out laughing, “Hahaha… Hong Shan, you’re such an idiot!”
Realizing it was Liang Yu’s doing, Hong Shan snapped back, “Damn you! Can’t you wake me up gently!?”
Liang Yu grinned mischievously, “Gently?”
“I’ll show you gentle!”
He moved closer to Hong Shan, and soon, screams echoed from the room, leaving Lai Qingxue and Liu Ruyi bewildered.
