Chapter 23: Becoming an Instructor, Training the Team
The next morning, as dawn broke, Liang Yu awoke on the couch, feeling sore all over.
He patted the couch beneath him—it was indeed quite hard.
Sleeping on it for long wasn’t good for his neck, so he stretched a bit before heading out.
Outside, he immediately spotted Dongfang Ke, who noticed him and walked over.
Getting straight to the point, Dongfang Ke said, “Come on, Zhang wants to see you.”
Without thinking much, Liang Yu replied politely, “Alright, lead the way!”
Dongfang Ke led Liang Yu to Zhang Jian’s room, where they were greeted by the sound of loud snoring. They exchanged glances and chuckled.
It wasn’t obvious, but they both noticed.
Dongfang Ke knocked on the door for about ten seconds before it opened.
Zhang Jian, with dark circles under his eyes, looked at them in confusion, clearly not fully awake.
He must have been dreaming about playing chess with Confucius and was about to win when Dongfang Ke’s knocking woke him up.
“What do you need?” Zhang Jian asked, rubbing his eyes.
“Zhang, didn’t you ask me to bring Liang Yu over?” Dongfang Ke replied.
Hearing this, Zhang Jian snapped back to reality, nodded at Liang Yu, and said, “Oh, right… My bad, I stayed up too late last night and forgot.”
Liang Yu wasn’t concerned about that. He just wanted to know why Zhang Jian wanted to see him.
“So, Zhang, what’s up?” Liang Yu asked eagerly.
“Well, we selected some people from the survivors yesterday, and I’d like you to help train them. We’re short on personnel,” Zhang Jian explained directly.
“Train them? As an instructor?” Liang Yu exclaimed.
“Exactly.”
Liang Yu quickly waved his hands in refusal, “I can’t do that. I didn’t even attend military training in college. How can I train newcomers?”
“Are you overestimating me or underestimating them?”
Zhang Jian placed a reassuring hand on Liang Yu’s shoulder and smiled, “Don’t worry, I trust you!”
“Dongfang Ke told me about your skills. I’m confident leaving these recruits in your hands. Train them well!”
With Zhang Jian’s confidence, Liang Yu felt compelled to agree.
“Alright, I’ll give it a shot. But if there’s any issue, I’ll stop the training immediately. Let’s agree on that first,” Liang Yu said, leaving himself an out.
After all, he’d never been an instructor and wasn’t sure how to train people.
He’d have to do some quick research to avoid embarrassing himself.
“No problem. If there’s nothing else, I’ll get back to sleep. I’m exhausted,” Zhang Jian said, yawning.
Seeing how tired Zhang Jian was, Dongfang Ke and Liang Yu shook their heads. Zhang Jian closed the door and returned to bed.
Liang Yu and Dongfang Ke went to find the recruits. On the way, Liang Yu took a detour to the restroom to quickly search for training tips on his phone.
But he found nothing useful—just training videos with no guidance on being an instructor.
‘Great,’ Liang Yu thought. ‘I’m unprepared and have no idea how to instruct.’
‘Oh well, I’ll just wing it. If it works, great. If not, I’ll leave. I’m not staying here forever anyway.’
Outside the shelter, Dongfang Ke and eight recruits stood in a line on the open ground between the outer defenses.
Seeing this, Liang Yu thought about his system’s mission to teach six people survival skills. ‘Now’s the perfect opportunity!’
‘I just hope they have some talent. You can’t just teach anyone—it’d be a waste.’
Liang Yu didn’t know much about being an instructor, but he understood the basics.
‘A man should know what to do and what not to do.’
With that in mind, he approached the recruits.
Soon, Liang Yu stood before them. Dongfang Ke pointed to him and said, “This is your instructor, Liang Yu. You can call him Instructor Liang.”
“Let’s give him a warm welcome.”
Dongfang Ke then whispered to Liang Yu, “Say a few words.”
“What should I say?” Liang Yu whispered back.
“Anything motivational. It’s like giving a club speech. Just don’t say anything inappropriate,” Dongfang Ke replied.
‘Great, now I have to wing it,* Liang Yu thought. *I’m a homebody who barely leaves the dorm, let alone joins clubs.’
‘How would I know about club speeches?’
“I’ve never joined a club,” Liang Yu replied.
Dongfang Ke almost fainted. She had joined clubs in college, and here was this handsome guy who hadn’t joined any. ‘Unbelievable!’
“Figure it out yourself!” Dongfang Ke said, leaving him to it.
Facing the eight recruits, Liang Yu was at a loss.
After about thirty seconds of silence, he said, “Uh… why don’t you all introduce yourselves?”
He decided to mimic what teachers do on the first day of school.
“Start from the right.”
The first recruit stepped forward and said, “I’m Zhang Tie Zhu, a farmer. I don’t have many skills, but I’m strong.”
Liang Yu nodded.
Next was the second recruit.
“I’m Jian Qi, a fitness coach.”
“I’m Du Heng Zhi, a national-level athlete.”
“I’m Guang Le An, a graduate of Donghai University’s sports department.”
“I’m Xiao Yang Bo, an auxiliary police officer.”

The last three were Wen Xing Chi, Zhou Da Qiang, and Shen Zong.
After the introductions, Liang Yu began with basic training—sit-ups and running laps.
He joined them, curious to see his limits after his physical enhancement.
‘Humans are always curious about their limits,’ Liang Yu thought. ‘Without exploration, there’s no legend.’
He wanted to see if he could run 100 meters in under nine seconds.
He also wanted to test other things, but the conditions weren’t right.
The space was limited, so a 100-meter sprint would do.
He asked Xiao Yang Bo to time him. At the start signal, Liang Yu took off.
His speed was incredible, his feet barely touching the ground.
Liang Yu felt his heart racing, as if it might burst from his chest.
When Xiao Yang Bo stopped the timer, it read 6.80 seconds. The recruits were stunned.
‘Is he even human? Not even a mutated zombie could do that!’
