Suddenly, It's the End of the World - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: Law-Abiding, Sexy E-Bike
Exiting the school gates, the trio stepped outside.
The scene before them left Liang Yu and the others frozen in place, unable to react for a long time.
The once-bustling shops were now deserted.
The ground was awash with blood, littered with severed limbs.
Skyscrapers had been sliced in half, collapsed with a helicopter on top.
The streets were empty, not a single person or zombie in sight, so quiet that they could hear each other’s racing heartbeats.
Lai Qingxue couldn’t handle it, bending over to dry heave.
Liang Yu and Hong Shan snapped back to reality, with Liang Yu handing a bottle of mineral water from his backpack to the retching Lai Qingxue.
She glanced at Liang Yu, took the water, and thanked him.
At that moment, a police car’s communication system crackled to life.
“Shh… shh…”
“Survivors of Donghai City, please proceed to the East District shelter.”
“Please… please… proceed… to the shelter.”
Then it went silent, indicating that in the apocalypse, even wireless communication devices were failing!
The surrounding signal towers were likely damaged; otherwise, it wouldn’t be like this.
Everyone heard the message from the police car.
Hong Shan approached Liang Yu, naturally placing a hand on his shoulder, “Old Liang, what do you plan to do?”
Liang Yu was looking at his phone. Hearing Hong Shan, he enlarged the map and showed it to him.
The map pointed to a police station, leaving Hong Shan puzzled.
Liang Yu grinned, “How about we get some guns?”
Hong Shan found the idea bold.
Liang Yu lifted his cleaver and continued, “With just this cleaver, forget getting home, even reaching the Donghai City shelter would be tough!”
Liang Yu was right; frequent use would wear down the cleaver.
Without a better weapon, once the cleaver was useless, they’d be in big trouble.
Hong Shan thought for a moment, “Alright, Xijiang City isn’t close. The cleaver might not last!”
“Besides, it’s the apocalypse. I want to try a gun!”
The two agreed to rest before heading to the Donghai City center police station.
Lai Qingxue didn’t join the discussion, too shocked by the road’s scene to speak.
Liang Yu lifted a shared e-bike, patted the seat, and said to Hong Shan, “Hong Shan, how about we ride this?”
Donghai City was large; driving from Donghai University to the city center took over forty minutes, indicating the distance.
Relying on walking would take forever!
Traveling without a suitable vehicle was impractical.
Only the shared bikes were usable; cars had no keys, and buses wouldn’t come. Riding was necessary!
Hong Shan came over, lifting a bike, “Old Liang, riding a shared bike in the apocalypse, you’re like a toad marrying a frog, ugly but fun.”
“Get lost, if you don’t want to ride, run there, no one’s stopping you!”
Hong Shan sat on the bike, laughing, “No way, it takes over an hour to get to the city center, and who knows what surprises are on the way!”
Liang Yu snorted, saying nothing more.
After a few minutes, Lai Qingxue recovered, joining Liang Yu and lifting a bike.
Liang Yu asked with concern, “Lai Qingxue, are you okay?”
She shook her head, “I’m fine now, much better!”
Hong Shan swung his leg over the bike, “Since you’re fine, let’s go. I can’t wait!”
Lai Qingxue nodded, mounting the bike.
Liang Yu took out his charged phone, opened the app, scanned the QR code, unlocked the bike, and prepared to set off.
His actions left Hong Shan and Lai Qingxue stunned; it was the apocalypse, and he was still scanning codes!
They used a crowbar to break the locks.
Liang Yu looked at the broken locks, then at them, “What are you doing!? Don’t you know to follow the law?”
Hong Shan and Lai Qingxue rolled their eyes.
Follow the law!? In the apocalypse, who cares about that!?
Lai Qingxue and Hong Shan rode off, leaving no trace.
Liang Yu quickly followed, worried they’d get lost.
…
Donghai City, Jinhua Avenue.
Three e-bikes rode side by side, heading east. The road was lined with crashed cars, emitting black smoke.
A few zombies on the sides saw them and roared.
Zombies cut in half crawled on the ground, faces bloody, expressions unreadable—grimace or pain.
Some zombies followed, but the e-bikes outpaced them!
The three on e-bikes were Liang Yu, Hong Shan, and Lai Qingxue, heading to the city center police station.
Hong Shan wouldn’t let go of Liang Yu’s silly act of scanning codes in the apocalypse, constantly teasing him.
“Old Liang, are you crazy!? Scanning codes, did I accidentally bump your head when I hugged you?”
“You made your dad laugh, hahaha…”
Liang Yu retorted, bringing up Hong Shan’s embarrassing past.
“My son, don’t forget the photos on my phone!”
“Don’t think it’s the apocalypse; there’s still an audience. Think carefully!”
Hearing this, Hong Shan immediately shut up. Those embarrassing photos were unforgettable.
Lai Qingxue, listening to their banter, grew curious about the photos. Every girl loves gossip.
She turned to Liang Yu, “What photos!? Can I see?”
Liang Yu was about to speak but stopped at Hong Shan’s pleading look.
Seeing his pitiful, begging eyes, Liang Yu said, “Nothing, just some funny birthday photos, nothing special!”
“Oh, I have funny photos of my roommates too!”
Hong Shan sighed in relief, giving Liang Yu a grateful look.
Liang Yu focused on the road instead.
At the next intersection, they turned, only to brake suddenly and turn around.
The street was packed with zombies, shoulder to shoulder. Hearing the noise, they turned to look at Liang Yu and the others.
The zombies roared, lunging at them, and the trio quickly accelerated to escape.
