Chapter 307: Are You Miss Han’s Boyfriend?
The medical room on the third floor of the Han family estate was as well-equipped as any professional hospital. Some of the medical equipment and techniques were even the latest available. Wealthy families often set up such medical rooms for emergencies when a private hospital wasn’t an option. This room could be a lifesaver.
At that moment, a young man lay face down on one of the hospital beds, his back wrapped in layers of bandages, with an IV drip in his left arm. He looked rather miserable.
“Damn, this hurts!” Fang Zhou groaned. He felt like a ragdoll coming apart at the seams, the pain from his back searing through his brain like ants gnawing at his flesh.
Nearby, a man in a white coat was reviewing a medical chart. Upon hearing Fang Zhou’s groans, he finally shifted his attention.
“Don’t move around. If you tear those stitches, I won’t be responsible,” the doctor said coolly, fitting Fang Zhou’s image of a no-nonsense medical genius.
Fang Zhou glanced at the young doctor, who looked about thirty and had a calm, steady demeanor. Likely, he was a highly paid personal doctor brought in by the Han family.
“So, does this mean I have to sleep like this all night?” Fang Zhou asked, trying to relieve some of the pressure on his chest from lying face down for so long. He was exhausted.
Thinking back to the hospital earlier, his expression darkened. He still didn’t understand why Han Xi had suddenly asked him if he loved Qiao Sisi so much that he’d take a knife for her.
Of course, Fang Zhou knew this was a trap question and immediately denied it, saying, “I didn’t take the knife for her because I love her. It was just a reflex.”
But Han Xi didn’t believe him. She laughed coldly and said, “Fang Zhou, you’re such a smooth talker. You can turn black into white.”
“Since you don’t want to tell me the truth, you’ll stay at my house to recover. When you’re ready to be honest, I’ll let you go home.” She then called in a bunch of people who whisked him from the hospital bed to a car and drove him straight out of Kyoto.
And it wasn’t even to her usual villa; the place was completely different.
Already feeling trapped in the car, Fang Zhou was even more upset when he realized he was in an unfamiliar place. He thought Han Xi was too domineering, not even asking if he wanted to switch hospitals before bringing him here.
After a few heated words with her, he ended up tearing his wound open again, causing him intense pain.
“You can try sleeping on your side a bit, but be careful not to press on the wound,” the doctor said, his attention back on his notes.
Fang Zhou, seeing how focused the doctor was, grew curious. “What’s your name, Doctor?”
“No need to be so formal. I’m He Rong, and I’ve been the Han family doctor for five years,” He Rong replied, placing his notepad down and looking at Fang Zhou with interest. “What’s your relationship with Miss Han? This is the first time she’s brought a man to the family estate.”
Having worked in the Han family estate for years, He Rong rarely saw Han Xi but often heard about her impressive achievements. He admired her and was naturally curious about the man she brought home.
Fang Zhou rested his chin on his arm, feeling a bit annoyed. “We’re just friends, if you must know.”
He wasn’t about to tell a stranger about his past relationship with Han Xi, especially in the Han family estate. Who knew if this doctor was loyal to the Han family and would do something nasty to him if he found out Fang Zhou had dumped Han Xi?
Fang Zhou’s caution was understandable, so he kept his answers vague.
“Oh, just friends, huh?” He Rong tapped his desk, clearly not buying it.
No way was Fang Zhou just a “friend.” This was the Han family estate. From the moment he stepped in, countless eyes would be on him, digging into his background. Han Xi wouldn’t bring a mere friend here.
But seeing Fang Zhou’s reluctance to talk, He Rong didn’t press further. He smiled and said, “Since you’re here, make the most of it. Take care of yourself. Health is wealth.”
Entering the Han family estate was a chance many would kill for, and he’d heard Fang Zhou wasn’t keen on staying.
Fang Zhou fell silent, sensing He Rong’s genuinely friendly advice, and nodded slightly. The doctor was right. He should focus on recovering. Once he was well, he could leave. No point in making things harder on himself.
Besides, staying here meant good food and care, all for free. Why not enjoy it?
He Rong was about to say more but noticed a figure at the door and stopped. “Alright, get some rest. The IV should be done in about thirty minutes. I’ll come back to remove it.”
He walked to the door, exchanged a quick nod with a woman in a black velvet dress, and left.
Fang Zhou heard the sound of slippers on the floor, knowing without looking that it was Han Xi. She preferred wearing slippers at home, unlike her high-heeled image at work.
“Feeling better?” Han Xi asked, glancing at the bandages on his back, a flicker of concern in her eyes.
For a moment, she doubted if she had done the right thing by forcefully bringing Fang Zhou here. But that doubt quickly faded. In her world, regrets were pointless. If there was any regret, it was not being thorough enough.
Fang Zhou, who had decided to make the best of his situation, felt a surge of frustration seeing Han Xi. He closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep.
Han Xi, having just heard him talking with Dr. He, knew he was feigning sleep. She clenched her fists, trying to stay calm.
She’d brought him here. No matter how angry he was, what could he do about it?
