Chapter 324: No Snowflake Is Innocent
Even though the ending was the same, this time Zhang Zhiyin had seen many details. She finally understood why Fang Zhou had ended up in such a dire state. Throughout it all, his ex-girlfriends had each added to the chaos. While the memories were hazy, she knew that when an avalanche happens, no snowflake is innocent.
Everyone thinks they’re blameless, but in reality, no one is.
Zhang Zhiyin got out of bed and found her notebook where she had recorded her previous dreams. She added more entries, her pen gliding across the white pages, each word etching itself painfully into her heart.
She wasn’t sure what the others had done, but she could predict Qin Yun’s next moves. She glanced out the window at the rain tapping gently against the glass, a soothing sound that belied the darkness outside, making it hard to tell when dawn would come.
She picked up her phone from the bedside table and found her brother’s number, dialing it without hesitation.
“Who’s calling so late?” came the sleepy voice of Zhang Zihang, her brother. “It’s 4 AM in Beijing! What’s going on, Zhang Zhiyin?”
Usually, she would banter back with him before getting to the point, but tonight she had no time for games. She had to act.
“Do you know any top-notch surgeons?” she asked bluntly.
Her brother immediately woke up, concerned. “Are you in trouble?”
“No, it’s not me. It’s a friend, a very important friend. That’s why I’m asking,” she explained.
Zhang Zihang sighed in relief. “Thank goodness. Yes, I know a few excellent surgeons. What’s this about?”
Zhang Zhiyin smiled slightly. “I need a top-tier surgeon who can perform major surgery.”
“Well, my mentor has a lot of contacts. I’ll ask him,” Zhang Zihang replied, still puzzled. “What exactly do you need?”
“I need a surgeon who isn’t connected to the Beijing medical circles, someone who can perform a kidney transplant,” Zhang Zhiyin said, her voice low but firm.
Sensing her seriousness, Zhang Zihang agreed solemnly. “Alright, I’ll start asking around tomorrow.”
“Thank you, brother.”
“No need to thank me. You’re my sister. Now, get some sleep!” he urged.
After the call, Zhang Zhiyin opened her phone’s browser and searched for Qin Yun. She found records of her career and current job but nothing about her influential medical family.
Closing her phone, Zhang Zhiyin stared at her bedside lamp, deep in thought. No wonder Qin Yun had the confidence to tell Fang Zhou, “Only I can perform your sister’s surgery.” It wasn’t that only Qin Yun could do it, but the other top surgeons in Beijing had been warned off.
When faced with the choice between a risky surgery and their careers, who would take the gamble? Everyone declined, claiming Fang Wenjing’s surgery was too risky, leaving Qin Yun as the only option.
Desperate and alone, Fang Zhou had no choice but to seek help from Qin Yun, knowing the cost of asking for her help.
Zhang Zhiyin closed her eyes, trying to block out the dream’s scenes, focusing instead on the task at hand. Whether the dream was real or not, past or future, she had to try to change it. Sometimes, fate and destiny are intertwined with our actions.
She believed in human determination and was convinced she could change Fang Zhou’s tragic fate. If Beijing’s doctors wouldn’t help, she would find someone elsewhere. No matter how far the Qin family’s influence reached, it wouldn’t extend that far.
If all else failed, she had one last resort. As an author, she could expose the family, drawing attention to the case. Once it was public, someone would step up to help Fang Wenjing.
Taking a deep breath, Zhang Zhiyin resolved to act, knowing there might be regrets but no doubt that it was the right thing to do. This was their last chance to save Fang Zhou and his sister.
She wrote in her notebook, “Even if it seems like a drop in the ocean, if there’s even the slightest chance to save you, I won’t give up.”
Her thoughts drifted back to their high school days, the golden memories shining like treasures worth keeping forever. Fang Zhou deserved a future as bright as those memories.
Unknowingly, tears streamed down her face, smudging the ink on the page but not weakening her resolve. Growing up, her family had told her the meaning of her name, Zhiyin—not just green grass, but hope and beauty. She couldn’t give up until the very end.
Everyone believes in karma; her dreams were the cause, and she was determined to change the effect.
