Chapter 326: Qin Yun’s Father
Standing at the doorway was a figure clad in a hat, mask, and sunglasses, looking very much like someone trying hard not to be recognized. Despite the disguise, Qin Yun identified the person immediately.
Her smile vanished, replaced by a stern expression. “What are you doing here?”
Her tone was laced with irritation, clearly not welcoming the unexpected guest.
The ‘patient’ at the door noticed her displeasure but didn’t seem to mind. Instead, he took a few steps inside and sat comfortably on the patient’s stool.
“If I didn’t come here, how else would I find you, Ah Yun?” The gravelly, aged voice filled the room, commanding attention.
The moment he called her ‘Ah Yun,’ Qin Yun’s face darkened. “Don’t call me that, old man.”
The term ‘old man’ was a trendy expression that only the younger generation typically understood. However, this ‘patient’ was well-versed in internet slang, so he knew exactly what it meant.
He slowly removed his glasses and mask, revealing an elderly, wrinkled face. With a mix of fondness and exasperation, he corrected her, “You should call me Dad, Ah Yun.”
His casual tone indicated he hadn’t taken offense at being called ‘old man.’
Qin Yun snorted coldly, her tone unfriendly. “I don’t have a father like you. So, what brings you here, Mr. Qin?”
Hearing Qin Yun immediately deny their relationship made Qin Shu’s expression falter, though he continued speaking gently. “No matter how you deny it, our DNA tests show a match. You are indeed my biological daughter, whether by law or science.”
“And you’ve had that report since you were in graduate school,” he continued. “I would really like to hear you call me Dad, Ah Yun.”
Qin Yun’s eyes flickered with disdain, her words cutting to the bone. “You could go to an orphanage and adopt ten or so kids to call you Dad, just don’t come here and disgust me.”
“If you have something to say, say it. If not, leave.”
With people she disliked, Qin Yun saw no need to maintain a facade of civility. She didn’t mind burning bridges if necessary.
Qin Shu sighed, realizing his daughter’s attitude toward him hadn’t changed. She had inherited her mother’s strong-willed nature, unable to tolerate any deceit.
Fate had played a cruel trick on him, and his own carelessness in the past had led to this situation.
“I heard you’ve been turning down a lot of work at the hospital for the sake of a man,” Qin Shu said, removing his hat and placing it on the table, revealing his full face.
If any other doctors walked in, they would be shocked. Qin Shu was a legend in the medical field, known for groundbreaking records and writing textbooks still used in medical schools today. He was a role model for countless medical students and a significant figure in modern medical history.
But to Qin Yun, he was just a meddling old man. “I’ve worked hard for years and want to take a break. Do you want me to work myself to death?”
She knew her tone sounded like a rebellious teenager, but she couldn’t help it. Seeing Qin Shu brought out the darkest parts of her, and she had no way to resolve them other than lashing out like a child.
Ignoring the barbs in her words, Qin Shu explained, “Of course not. I just wanted to remind you not to invest too much in a man. You might end up losing more than you gain.”
“You mean like how my mom did with you? Do you think my mom was stupid?” Qin Yun snapped, her anger barely contained.
“I wasn’t talking about your mother…”
“Shut up! You have no right to talk about her!” Qin Yun shouted, standing up abruptly, her body shaking with emotion. Pointing to the door, she said, “If you came here to upset me, congratulations, you did it. Now get out!”
Qin Shu hadn’t expected such a strong reaction and hesitated whether to continue. He spoke hesitantly, “Alright, if you don’t want me involved in your personal life, I won’t be. But today, I came to discuss something important about your mother’s grave…”
“Grave? What about it?” Qin Yun’s anger spiked again.
“We plan to move it to the Qin family’s ancestral tomb…”
“Move my ass! I don’t agree!” Qin Yun, usually composed, cursed in an outburst. If anyone else were present, they would be shocked.
She grabbed the black hat and shoved it back onto Qin Shu’s head, thrusting the mask and sunglasses into his hands. “Get the fuck out! Don’t stay here and bother me!”
She pushed him towards the door and slammed it shut behind him. “Bang!”
The door closed, separating them, hiding the fury on Qin Yun’s face. She rubbed her forehead, trying to calm down. From outside, she heard Qin Shu’s voice raised.
“Your mother is lonely in the mountains. Think about it!”
Her only response was the sound of something heavy hitting the door—a pen holder she had thrown out of frustration.
