In the small garden, Fang Zhou and Qin Yun stood opposite each other, locked in eye contact.

Qin Yun claimed she had a way to find a kidney donor, but Fang Zhou was skeptical.

“Even Dr. Du couldn’t do it. What makes you think you can?” His voice, though not loud, brimmed with mistrust and anger.

Qin Yun couldn’t help tapping her left hand on her right, exuding a confident demeanor.

“You know I’ve been in the medical field for years. I have connections.”

“Dr. Du is doing his job as a doctor, but I’m willing to pull every string I have for you.”

Fang Zhou opened his mouth to argue, but Qin Yun was quicker. She put her hand gently on his lips, silencing him.

“Listen to me first.”

“Though I don’t like to admit it, my father is quite renowned in the medical community and runs his own research institute.”

Fang Zhou was stunned, feeling the warmth of her fingers on his lips and staring at her in disbelief.

This was the first time he had heard Qin Yun mention her family in all the time he’d known her.

He had been to her house before when they were together. It was empty, devoid of family photos, only pictures of herself and her dog. No parents or siblings in sight.

He often wondered if her relationship with her family was strained. Despite her regular trips home as indicated by her train itineraries, he never fully understood her family dynamics.

Now, it seemed clear that her relationship with her father wasn’t great, given her choice of words, calling him her “biological father” rather than simply “dad.”

Confusion enveloped Fang Zhou, and Qin Yun saw it clearly.

She smiled softly, withholding further explanation. Instead, she patted his shoulder reassuringly.

“You don’t have many options now, do you? Trust me just this once. Consider it a last-ditch effort.”

Fang Zhou was still half-doubtful.

Aside from her occasional erratic behavior, Qin Yun often radiated reliability—a trait perhaps bolstered by her profession that naturally instilled a sense of safety.

With his emotions in turmoil, he wrestled internally over placing his trust in her.

But as he had previously thought, if there was even a sliver of hope to save his sister, he had to try.

“I’m serious, Fang Zhou. Will you trust me this once?”

Seeing her unyielding, Fang Zhou finally nodded and said, “Alright, I’ll sign.”

When people face extreme adversity, they often say they’re at their wits’ end.

Fang Zhou felt more cornered than ever before.

If he was already at rock bottom, then any choice he made might as well be an uphill climb.

With that rationale, why not give it a try?

Hearing him agree, Qin Yun smiled earnestly.

She instinctively took a step closer, gazing at his flawless face with a hint of infatuation.

In just a day, Fang Zhou seemed to have lost weight, his appearance unchanged but his spirit visibly drained.

“Trust me, and everything will start to improve.”

Her confident reassurance echoed the tone of a leader promising great things to a subordinate.

Fang Zhou shook his head slightly, clearing his jumbled thoughts, and asked Qin Yun,

“What else do I need to do?

“How about giving me your bank account number? I’ll transfer the money immediately.”

If a matching kidney was found, they’d need money fast.

Fang Zhou was unwilling to waste even a second, hoping Qin Yun could start immediately.

Noting his tensed lips and furrowed brow, Qin Yun raised her hand, intending to smooth his worries, but he stepped back, avoiding her touch.

A hint of sadness flickered in her eyes but was quickly replaced.

“Not now. If money is needed, I’ll inform you. For now, just take care of your sister and wait for my updates.”

Actions speak louder than words, and she aimed to prove herself to Fang Zhou through her deeds, compensating for past mistakes.

Qin Yun even planned to personally perform the surgery if a donor was found, ensuring Wenjing’s safety without a hitch.

Only by doing so could she gain Fang Zhou’s trust back and start anew.

Fang Zhou had no clue how she would accomplish this. He could only pray she was as reliable as she claimed.

He nodded slightly, then stepped back and sincerely bowed to her.

“Thank you.”

“If you can find a matching kidney for my sister, I’ll pay any price.”

Staring at their shadows on the ground, Fang Zhou sincerely wished for a genie lamp to grant his wishes, dedicating all three to his sister’s well-being.
