The Emperor didn’t say more and waved his hand, dismissing everyone.

Once they left the Imperial Study, the Commander of the Capital Guard, feeling awkward because he wasn’t familiar with the Minister of Justice and the Chief of the Supreme Court, found an excuse to leave quickly.

The Minister of Justice and the Chief of the Supreme Court walked side by side along the palace path. The Chief of the Supreme Court’s face was dark. “I really misjudged you. I didn’t expect to fall into your hands today. Tell me, what good does it do you to harm me!”

The Minister of Justice gave him an annoyed glance. ” You’re like a dog biting Lu Dongbin, not recognizing a good person.”

The Chief of the Supreme Court laughed angrily. “Good person? I’ve been dismissed, and you call that being a good person? Do you take me for a three-year-old child?”

The Minister of Justice retorted, “You’re not even as good as a three-year-old child; at least a child knows right from wrong.”

The Chief of the Supreme Court ground his teeth. “I’ve lost my position, and you call that good intentions? Nonsense!” In his fury, he couldn’t help but curse.

The Minister of Justice gave him another glance. “You fell into my hands today and at worst, you’ll be dismissed for a few days. If you fall into someone else’s hands tomorrow, it won’t be as simple as just being dismissed.”

Seeing the Minister of Justice’s unchanging expression and confident tone, the Chief of the Supreme Court couldn’t help but glance at him. He knew the Minister of Justice well enough. He was a ruthless man who didn’t care about family ties or persuasion. They were like fellow students from the same academy, graduating a year apart. Although the Chief of the Supreme Court supported the Second Prince, they occasionally drank together.

He had tried to recruit the Minister of Justice for the Second Prince but gave up after several rejections. The Crown Prince, the Second Prince, the Third Prince, and even the Fifth Prince have all made attempts. They just weren’t caught in the act. But it doesn’t mean the Emperor doesn’t know.”

Even he knew, so the Emperor must know. The Minister of Justice never doubted this. Since he mentioned the Second Prince, the Chief of the Supreme Court instinctively wanted to say something but thought better of it.

“He even mentioned the Crown Prince. What does the Second Prince matter?”

“But have you thought about why the Emperor decided to intervene this time? And why he arrested the Third Prince for a joint trial?”

The Chief of the Supreme Court was momentarily stunned by the Minister of Justice’s sudden question. Yes, why did the Emperor suddenly decide to intervene this time and arrest the Third Prince for a joint trial?

The Minister of Justice nodded. “That’s exactly what I mean. So I say, you’re just being dismissed now. If you keep pushing, the outcome might be worse.”

After a pause, the Minister of Justice added, “I only helped you because we’re close. I know your relationship with the Second Prince, but let me advise you, since you’re dismissed, don’t go to the Second Prince.”

The Chief of the Supreme Court finally understood the meaning behind the Minister of Justice’s words. The Emperor’s decree was clear: dismissed from office, cooperate fully with the investigation. The implication was not to engage in any other troublesome activities.

But…

The Chief of the Supreme Court smiled bitterly. “It’s not up to me.”

The Minister of Justice smiled at him. “Do you need my help?”

The Chief of the Supreme Court was momentarily confused. “What?”

Before he could react, the Minister of Justice swung a fist at his eye socket.

“Ah!”

The Chief of the Supreme Court let out a scream and stumbled back a few steps, almost falling. Seeing the two officials emerge from the palace, the guards at the gate were stunned. These men were in their forties or fifties, and they were fighting right at the palace gate? Unbelievable!

The Chief of the Supreme Court quickly understood the Minister of Justice’s intention. Grateful, he lunged at the Minister of Justice. “You old fool, how dare you hit me! Have you lost your mind? Two guards exchanged glances and then reluctantly stepped forward.

In the struggle, the Minister of Justice pushed the Chief of the Supreme Court away and kicked him in the stomach. “To hell with you!”

The Chief of the Supreme Court clutched his stomach, almost in tears. I know you’re doing this for my sake, but did you have to hit so hard?

The Minister of Justice…

If you can’t take it, just pretend to faint, you fool.

To make sure the Chief of the Supreme Court would faint, the Minister of Justice landed a few more punches. Worried he might still not faint, he whispered in his ear, “You better pass out, I’m out of energy.”

Rolling his eyes, the Chief of the Supreme Court fainted. This was too much.

Seeing him faint, the guards quickly stepped in, not daring to hesitate any longer.

The Minister of Justice snorted, shook his sleeves, “Worthless. Daring to fight me, overestimating yourself.” With that, he turned and walked away proudly.

The guards were left confused in the cold winter wind. What just happened?

News of the Minister of Justice beating the Chief of the Supreme Court quickly reached the Emperor. The Emperor was shocked and looked at the Chief Eunuch. “What does this mean?”

The Chief Eunuch thought for a moment and smiled bitterly. “How would I know? But the Third Prince’s case is indeed tricky. The Ministry of Justice was only supposed to hold him, but now they have to investigate. I think the Minister of Justice is probably not happy about it.”
