The Command to Pamper the Husband - Chapter 196
After the battle, the Crown Prince immediately abandoned the criminals without any hesitation, something Song Jin had never seen before.
Rubbing her chin, Song Jin looked at the chief village.
The chief village shivered as he met Song Jin’s gaze. He had witnessed the arrows reversing their course, and realized that the villagers’ weapons must have been cursed by her as well. Even the iron boards were manipulated by her. The chief village feared that if he displeased her, he might be struck by something fatal.
Licking his lips, the chief village lay on the ground in front of his people, weakened by the injury to his abdomen and the excessive bleeding. He pressed his face against the ground.
“We acted on his orders. I don’t know who he works for, but I know his master is a high-ranking official in the capital.”
“How involved were you in the case of Cui Liang’s family?” the Crown Prince asked.
The chief village licked his lips again, avoiding the Crown Prince’s gaze.
“We… we were all involved.”
“The whole village?” Song Jin was surprised.
The chief village nodded.
“Since when?” the Crown Prince continued to question.
“Three years ago.”
“Why did you suddenly stop three years ago?”
“I don’t know. I just followed orders. When they told me to act, I acted. When they said stop, I stopped.”
The Crown Prince glanced at the man he had tied up.
“Did you stop suddenly?”
The chief village thought for a moment, “Yes, we had already targeted a family and were ready to act, but suddenly we were told to stop. It stayed that way until recently when we started again.”
“How did you operate?”
“Nowadays, children are very cautious. Their families constantly warn them not to help any strangers, and it’s rare for a child to be lured by food. Children are very smart now. Even seeing a stranger makes them wary.”
In recent years, the court had done a good job of promoting awareness about protecting children from being kidnapped. Yet, tragedies still happened.
“Since it was hard to target adults, we used children, usually cute little girls. We sent them to approach the targets and lure them to a designated place.”
Song Jin was shocked.
Adults warned children to be cautious of strange adults, but rarely did they warn them about other children, especially adorable little girls. Not just children, but even adults could be deceived by such a ploy.
Song Jin thought that if a pitiful little girl asked for her help, she would surely not refuse. Who would imagine that the girl was leading them into a trap?
“Cui Liang’s niece was our bait. Unlike other baits, she could find targets on her own and actively lead them to us. She wasn’t like other baits who had to be instructed every step of the way.”
Song Jin couldn’t help but ask, “Did she know what happened to the children she led away?”
The chief village nodded, “She knew.”
Song Jin was speechless. A little girl, fully aware of the fate awaiting the children she abducted, yet still actively participating in such deeds.
“Why was she so eager?”
The chief village shook his head, “I don’t know. She seemed to enjoy the process. I heard her say once that she thought the children she abducted were as stupid as pigs. Maybe it made her feel smarter.”
The chief village speculated.
“Who is she?”
Song Jin couldn’t believe such a child existed, enjoying the process of kidnapping others.
What a demonic child.
Song Jin thought of her previous life, of those juvenile criminals. They committed atrocities beyond the capabilities of adults, yet had innocent faces. After committing their crimes, they even felt proud, protected by laws that shielded minors.
Thinking about this, Song Jin felt a deep sorrow.
Cui Liang’s niece was soon brought out from the crowd. Her arm and leg had been injured by the flying weapons, making it difficult for her to walk. However, she wore a sinister smile and looked at Song Jin and the Crown Prince with contempt.
“Those children were so stupid. I barely tricked them, and they eagerly followed me.”
She raised her chin, her face filled with arrogance.
“According to the laws of the Great Yan Dynasty, children under ten years old are not subject to criminal law. Coincidentally, I am three months shy of turning ten.”
Song Jin felt like her head was about to explode. Another age-related legal loophole? Song Jin knew little about the laws of the Great Yan Dynasty, but given her certainty and the Crown Prince’s lack of contradiction, it was likely true.
Looking at the sweet-faced, innocent-looking girl, Song Jin felt a chill run through her body.
She knew the laws. Because she knew the laws, she was fearless. The laws protected her but not the children she harmed.
“Aren’t you afraid of karma?” Song Jin asked through gritted teeth.
The Crown Prince was surprised, not expecting Song Jin to lose her composure.
The girl looked up at Song Jin.
“Karma? Why should I fear that? The law can’t touch me, so why should I fear something intangible? Once I turn ten, I won’t do these things anymore. I’ll have a long life ahead of me.”
“Do you not feel guilt in your dreams?”
The girl laughed, interrupting Song Jin’s trembling voice. “Why should I feel guilt? Those children were stupid. Is that my fault?”
Song Jin raised her hand and slapped the girl across the face.
The girl bled from the corner of her mouth but laughed, “See, you’re so angry, but all you can do is slap me. Even if you arrest me, I’ll just be well-fed in jail for a while before being released. I’m different from them.”
The girl sneered at the villagers behind her.
Song Jin felt that this girl was a thousand times more detestable than the villagers.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in Song Jin’s mind.
“Did you kill Cui Liang?”
The girl paused, then laughed, “You’re smart. Yes, it was me. It’s not my fault though. She deserved to die for stupidly trying to secretly release the kid I abducted.”
“She was your aunt. All these years, she spent all her monthly allowance on you.”
“She did it willingly. She was stupid and cheap. She deserved to die.”
Song Jin couldn’t listen anymore.
“The law cannot punish you,” Song Jin took a deep breath and looked at the Heavenly Hound.
The Heavenly Hound raised its paw and struck the girl.
The blow was swift and unexpected.
The girl didn’t even have time to scream before her neck snapped.
She stared at Song Jin in shock, as if wondering how she could be dead.
