- Chapter 62 - A Shift in Status
The little fox thought she had given a great explanation, but when Jiang Surou glared at her again, she immediately sold out her accomplice.
“It wasn’t me who came up with the nickname—it was Wang Mian! He’s the one who started calling you that!”
Wang Mian guiltily turned his head away.
Han Feng quickly intervened, “Alright, stop messing around. I’ve got something important to do. Senior Sister, do you have any blank jade slips for recording techniques, divine abilities, or pill recipes? I need one.”
“Yes, of course. These things aren’t worth much.”
Jiang Surou pulled out a jade slip and handed it to Han Feng.
Since he couldn’t extend his divine sense, Han Feng pressed the slip to his forehead and engraved the first chapter of the Xun Art into it.
The Patriarch had deemed him unqualified to receive the complete Xun Art, but Han Feng had his own way to acquire it.
After completing the engraving, Han Feng handed the jade slip to Jiang Surou and said, “This is a powerful technique I received during the blessing, along with its accompanying initial divine ability. You can practice it—it’s incredibly useful.”
Jiang Surou was initially surprised, then shook her head.
“The technique you received… Everyone knows that your blessing lasted for four hours—far longer than anyone else’s. It’s clear you obtained something extraordinary.
The Sect Leader and Peak Masters haven’t said a word about it, precisely to protect this secret, because everyone knows it must be something incredibly valuable.
Now you’re giving it to me? This is too much. I can’t accept it.”
Wang Mian, always the loudmouth, chimed in, “Oh, give me a break. You’re Dao partners—what’s with all the formalities? Honestly, it’s like you two aren’t even close. Two people sharing a bed shouldn’t act like strangers.
If it really bothers you, Senior Sister Jiang, just give Han Feng a copy of your blessing in return. One person shares their divine ability, the other shares theirs—it’s a win-win! Why are you hesitating?”
“Shut up! I can’t give him my blessing!” Jiang Surou snapped, her face flushing bright red. Her eyes darted away, and her voice softened as she stammered, “It’s not that I can’t… It’s just… not the right time yet.”
For someone usually so cold and composed, her sudden reaction and shy demeanor only made everyone more curious about what exactly her blessing entailed.
Jiang Surou eventually accepted the jade slip Han Feng offered and said, “Fine, I’ll take this for now. I’ll find a way to repay you later.”
“It’s no big deal. We’re all on the same side.”
At that moment, a notification rang out in Han Feng’s mind:
[Han Feng has gifted his Dao partner the technique and divine ability Xun Art (First Chapter). You have received a tenfold return: the complete Xun Art. Would you like to claim it now?]
“Not yet,” Han Feng replied inwardly.
He decided to wait until Wang Mian’s affairs were resolved, and he had settled into his new residence, before reviewing the complete Xun Art.
—
Afterward, Han Feng left Wang Mian to rest at home while he and Jiang Surou went to complete his registration as an outer disciple.
As they left Zhang Xiu’s home and flew into the air, Jiang Surou pointed to a single courtyard below her loft and said, “That courtyard is unoccupied. You can stay there—it’s close to me.
But it’s just temporary. With your current cultivation at the peak of the ninth layer of Qi Refining, it shouldn’t take you more than a year or two to break through to Foundation Establishment. At that point, you’ll become an inner disciple, or even a personal disciple of a Peak Master, and move to the mountaintop.”
“Alright, thanks, Senior Sister.”
Han Feng didn’t want to live in Jiang Surou’s loft. For one, it felt like imposing on her personal space, which would always make him feel like a guest in her home, a bit uncomfortable.
Secondly, her courtyard was too small, with a rocky foundation unsuitable for planting herbs. The courtyard she pointed out was perfect: a single-story structure with three rooms, a large yard, and plenty of space. It even sat below the large rock her loft rested on.

At the outer disciple registration office, Han Feng encountered the same disciple who had assisted him last month.
However, this time, the treatment was vastly different.
“Ah, if it isn’t Senior Brother Han and Senior Sister Jiang! What an honor to have you here. Please, have a seat and enjoy some tea.”
The disciple hurried to fetch chairs and pour tea for Han Feng and Jiang Surou, his demeanor completely ingratiating.
During Han Feng’s last visit, the same disciple had been sarcastic and dismissive. Now, he seemed eager to lick their boots clean.
“This isn’t necessary, Senior Brother,” Han Feng said politely.
The disciple looked older than Han Feng, but in the cultivation world, strength determined seniority. Many referred to Jiang Surou as “Senior Sister,” despite her young age. Likewise, Han Feng’s cultivation and accomplishments now warranted the title of “Senior Brother.”
“What brings you here today, Senior Brother Han?” the disciple asked eagerly.
“It’s about last month’s issue,” Han Feng replied. “I wanted to register as an outer disciple, but your rules state that registrations are only processed on the first day of each month. That happened to coincide with the Ancestor’s Ceremony, so it was delayed. I was wondering if I can complete the process today?”
“Of course! Absolutely! Even if no one else could, you most certainly can!” the disciple assured him enthusiastically.
Jiang Surou frowned and said, “Wait a moment. Since when does registration for outer disciples only happen on the first of the month? Isn’t it supposed to be open every day?”
“Exactly. It’s always been open daily,” the disciple replied quickly.
Then, he hurriedly walked toward the entrance.
“That’s strange. Last time I came, there was a sign saying registrations were only processed on the first…” Han Feng trailed off, watching as the disciple discreetly stashed the sign into his storage pouch.
“Sign? What sign? There’s no such sign,” the disciple said shamelessly.
Han Feng felt a vein throb on his forehead. Do you think we’re all blind?
Jiang Surou snorted coldly,
“Hmph. They just wanted to slack off. The one responsible for verifying cultivations is a Foundation Establishment steward. He probably wanted to free up more time for his own training, so he made everyone register on the same day.”
“Please don’t be angry, Senior Sister Jiang. This was entirely our fault,” the disciple said as he quickly pulled out a few spirit stones, pills, and two sets of robes, placing them on the table with a fawning smile.
“These are Senior Brother Han’s monthly provisions. Outer disciples are entitled to five spirit stones and ten Condensing Qi Pills each month. I’ve prepared three months’ worth for you. Please don’t hold this against us.”
Han Feng didn’t feel too bothered. If he had become an outer disciple back then, Ye Longyuan would’ve immediately learned of his strength and sent stronger assassins. Without those attempts, Han Feng wouldn’t have had the chance to retaliate, nor would he have obtained the 350-year-old White Lingluo Flower.
Without that sequence of events, he wouldn’t have been able to outmaneuver Ye Longyuan during their fight in the secret realm.
Sometimes, setbacks pave the way for bigger opportunities.
So Han Feng didn’t blame the disciple. After collecting his provisions, he and Jiang Surou left to take Wang Mian to meet her master, Si Yu.
