Chapter 1 – The Prologue [Past Life]
At the final moments of his life, Su Nuo discovered that the person he once thought he would never forget was only a vague outline in his memory, and even the hatred became illusory.
He had imagined that when he would see Yuan Jianyi once again, he would definitely end up severely scolding him. However, when he heard Yuan Jianyi’s voice at the moment of death, his heart was not moved at all.
Su Nuo entered the Yuan family when he was sixteen years old. It was then that he met Yuan Jianyi.
At that time, Yuan Jianyi was the most beloved omega son of the Star Lord and the white moonlight in the eyes of the alpha of the empire, while Su Nuo was just a servant of the Yuan family, an ordinary and dull beta.
There is nothing between them but clouds and mud, and they should not have any intersection.
It was not until Su Nuo offended Yuan Yao, the eldest son of the Yuan family, and was forced to kneel down by the bodyguards that Yuan Jianyi spoke up to rescue him.
From this point on, they met, got to know each other, and then… fell in love?
Should it be said that they were in love?
At least for a long time, Su Nuo thought they were in love.
The night before Yuan Jianyi’s car accident, Yuan Jianyi suddenly approached him and talked a lot. Finally, he asked him if he wanted to leave together and go to a planet without other people.
No matter what happened over the past decade, Su Nuo never thought about leaving, nor did he think he could leave.
Yuan Jianyi’s words were like the devil’s Pandora’s box, opening up another world for him, a beautiful and free world wrapped in bubbles.
He nodded almost involuntarily.
Before leaving, Yuan Jianyi gave him a necklace.
He kept the necklace carefully, considering it as a token of their mutual affection.
This happiness that fell from the sky came too suddenly, and so did the bad news.
The next day, he saw on the news that Yuan Jianyi had been in a car accident and was in a comatose state.
Pandora’s Box suddenly closed, taking away all extravagant hopes. The bubble burst, and his freedom and love, which had not yet begun, came to an abrupt end.
If he had been smarter or more selfish at that time, after the doctor repeatedly declared that there was no hope for Yuan Jianyi to wake up, he should have left in time like the Yuan family and Yuan Jianyi’s fiancé.
But he didn’t.
Perhaps ordinary people are always a little more foolish and can endure more hardships.
He chose to stay with Yuan Jianyi and take care of him, thinking that he would be able to see the moon after the clouds cleared.
A year later, Yuan Jianyi woke up.
The clear skies and the bright moon that he was expecting did not come.
After he woke up, Yuan Jianyi seemed like a different person. The gentleness in his eyes when he looked at him was no longer there, rather his gaze was full of resistance and indifference.
Su Nuo had clearly noticed it at that time, but he still had fantasies in his head, until one night when he tucked in the quilt for Yuan Jianyi. Yuan Jianyi mistook him as someone with bad intentions.
That time, Yuan Jianyi grabbed his wrist as if he was grabbing at an insignificant straw.
“Su Nuo, stay away from me. No omega would like a skinny and short beta like you.”
Yes.
No omega would like a beta like him.
The fragile hope deep in his heart was shattered at this moment, forcing him to face reality.
It turned out that Yuan Jianyi didn’t like him.
It’s all his own fault.
The consequences of his self-indulgence were much more tragic than he had imagined. Not long after, the Yuan family found an excuse of insubordination, broke his legs, and drove him out.
When he was dragged out of the gate by the servants, with his broken legs leaving two bloody trails on the ground, Yuan Jianyi was standing at the second-floor window looking at him with a confused expression.

His experience of nearly a decade at the Yuan family flashed through his mind like a kaleidoscope.
His consciousness continued to sink into the endless darkness.
Is this what it feels like to be near death?
His body and heart feel empty…
The shouting in his ears never stopped, as if trying to fill the emptiness, but it only added to the annoyance.
“Su Nuo…Su Nuo…”
Why is it always Yuan Jianyi’s voice?
He clearly didn’t want to hear Yuan Jianyi’s voice.

After losing his legs, he had been living in the downtown area.
The days passed peacefully but hopelessly.
What broke this life was that he rescued Lu Yu, who was seriously injured and in a coma, from the ruins.
As soon as Alpha woke up, he was immediately susceptible to the surge. Driven by instinct, the Alpha held him tightly in his arms and he couldn’t even move. The man kept calling out his name while reaching for the back of his neck.
His underdeveloped beta gland was bitten painfully, and a strange and unfamiliar feeling spread from the back of the neck throughout the body.
Su Nuo was confused and wondered how Lu Yu knew his name.
The two of them did not know each other. They had only met once at a banquet and had never even spoken to each other.
If one really wanted to make a connection between them, then, there was only one tiny thing to note— Lu Yu had almost become his love rival.
Originally, the Yuan family hoped that Yuan Jianyi and Lu Yu would marry each other, but for some reason this plan did not succeed. Later, they found other marriage partners for Yuan Jianyi.

Su Nuo always thought that this encounter and the temporary mark left by Lu Yue were just an accident. As a result, when he heard that Lu Yu wanted to take responsibility, he subconsciously refused.
He had lost interest in life and many things had become meaningless.
There was no need to hold the other party responsible.
Besides, he knew himself well. If omegas don’t like him, how could alphas like him?
What’s more, this alpha is a general in the empire’s military.
So why should he be so arrogant and demand repayment?
So as to avoid ending up being too sentimental.
After that day, Lu Yu brought him a pair of mechanical prostheses.
Su Nuo thought this was the “compensation” he gave him. After losing his legs, he felt a sense of disconnection and felt out of place in this world.
He put on his prosthetic limbs and stood up again.
The scene in front of him gradually returned to its original position in his eyes. The horizon sank downward, the sky became distant and open, and the place within his sight was finally no longer a low and dilapidated corner.
He was connected to the world again.
Lu Yu asked him if he wanted to go with him, but he was halfway through the conversation when he hurriedly made an excuse to avoid him.
He didn’t think he had any charm or value worthy of Lu Yu’s attention. Perhaps Lu Yu wanted to be responsible for him because of the shackles of morality and responsibility in his heart. However, Su Nuo didn’t want to use this as a mode to curry favor with him. He was even more afraid that this was just another game played by the powerful upper class to tease ordinary people.
He thought that as long as he didn’t get involved, he wouldn’t be “self-indulgent”.
He thought that the continuous rejections would make Lu Yu give up, but Lu Yu still came to see him every once in a while, and each time he would bring him some new gadgets, among which the most common things were various potted flowers.
Maybe he thought that since Su Nuo used to be the Yuan family’s gardener, he would like fresh potted flowers.
Soon, his house was filled with all kinds of flowers, completely changing its once gloomy and hopeless tone.
The days went from being peaceful and hopeless to just peaceful.

Before heading to Samuel’s battlefield, Lu Yu took the time to visit him as usual and once again mentioned to him about taking him away.
As if he was afraid of once again facing refusal, Lu Yu’s tone was full of unusual nervousness: “I know you have concerns, but my injury is not as serious as reported in the news.”
Injury? What kind of injury?
He rarely watched the news because it was keen on reporting all the big and small things happening in the Yuan family, and he subconsciously wanted to stay away from it.
However, during the past six months of being with Lu Yu, the hard shell in his heart had already quietly cracked.
He thought that even a snail should be brave for once and extend its soft tentacles to the world.
“When you return from Samuel’s battlefield, I will go with you.”
He was afraid that Lu Yu would regret it in the future, so he wanted to delay it a little longer so that Lu Yu could better weigh the pros and cons. If he still insisted on this idea when he returned from the battlefield, then he would go with him.
But unexpectedly, this time, Lu Yu was unable to return from the battlefield.

Shen Miao is a friend that Su Nuo made at the Yuan family, and he is also the only friend who is willing to come to the lower city to visit him.
It was before the Samuel’s battle that Su Nuo met Lu Yu for the last time, and it was also around the same time when Shen Miao happened to arrive.
Shen Miao told him that when he was kicked out of the Yuan family and fainted on the street, he was taken to the hospital by a black spaceship.
The black spaceship was exactly the same as the one Lu Yu was riding.
But Lu Yu never mentioned this in front of him.
He once asked Lu Yu how he knew his name and whether they had known each other for a long time. At that time, Lu Yu just smiled and made up an excuse to get away with it.
He didn’t dare to ask further, for fear of appearing to be being too sentimental. Now that he thought about it, they must have known each other for a long time without him knowing.
But his memory only began with the ruins of the lower town.
It’s so unfair.
After Lu Yu’s death, he finally realized that the “injury” Lu Yu mentioned when they met for the last time was the glandular injury he sustained on the battlefield two years ago.
Reports spread that his glands were severely damaged, leaving him disabled and unable to control his pheromones, making him unable to mate with any omega in the future. This led to many unfounded and harsh remarks and rumors.
Did Lu Yu think until his death that Su Nuo didn’t go with him because he cared about the defective gland?

Even today, when he thinks back on this past event, it still feels the same, as if a pair of hands reached into Su Nuo’s chest and ripped out all his internal organs.
The cold wind passed through his chest and his body felt empty.
He was like a dying blind man who regained his sight briefly and saw the incomparable sunset.
Before he could marvel at the beauty of the sunset, it went dark again.
His entire world is dark again.
He persisted in this dark world for many years, with revenge becoming his only motivation to live.
His legs, and Lu Yu’s life, were inextricably linked to the Yuan family. He formed a rebel alliance to fight against the Yuan family, hoping to shake the mighty tree with the power of an ant. Ultimately, as the tree crumbled, he, like a spent force, met his end.
All grudges and hatred melt away along with consciousness.
The revolving lantern went out.
The unfinished words remained in his chest forever.
“Lu Yu, I want to go with you.”
T/N:
Finally, I’m back with another project while still having a truckload of assignments n stuffs to deal with which I’m ignoring beautifully. Actually, I’ve been eyeing this novel for a while now. Now, I can finally work on it. Anyways, this chapter may be a little boring, the coming ones should be interesting. Hope you like it.
