- Chapter 175 - The Ansu Plan and the Starving Tara (1/5)
“Old Ford, put those bottles of wine in the cellar.”
At nine in the evening, Avena had returned to her manor. After instructing the old butler at the entrance to put the wine away, Avena took Nia and walked towards the third floor.
When they reached the third floor, Avena stopped, turned back to look at Nia, slightly nodded, and said, “You worked hard today.”
“It is my duty, Young Mistress.”
Nia slightly nodded. Her hand on the handrail, she was about to go downstairs, but hesitated and looked at Avena, saying, “Young Mistress, Miss Ciel… did things go smoothly?”
Nia had been tense all evening. As one of the informed parties, she was constantly paying attention to the surrounding movements. While focusing on Avena, she would deliberately try to find Ciel’s location with her eyes.
But ever since the banquet began, Nia had not seen Ciel again. This made her more vigilant. She was completely focused on sensing any subtle movement…
But to her surprise, other than Lucy and Ciel disappearing for a while, nothing unexpected happened the entire time. There wasn’t even the slightest fluctuation of combat.
Not only Nia, but even Oppold didn’t notice anything unusual. The banquet just ended by the lakeside in a muddled manner.
She guessed that the matter was resolved within the manor, but she didn’t go to investigate, because Nia had to stay by Avena’s side to ensure her safety.
“I’m not sure either.”
Avena shook her head. “I’ll go ask her. If there’s anything, I’ll find you.”
“Okay.”
Nia nodded, then went downstairs.
If things ended smoothly, that was naturally for the best. If the plan failed and that “Subverter” escaped, Nia would have to consider advising Avena to stay away from Ciel to avoid being implicated.
After Nia left, Avena walked alone along the corridor to the very last room. She gently opened the door and looked inside, her body slightly stiffening.
In her gaze, Ciel was lying face down on her bed, seemingly already fast asleep, without even taking off her shoes.
Even the sound of her opening the door didn’t wake Ciel up.
Avena tiptoed to the side of the bed, looking at Ciel lying face down on the bed. For a moment, she was at a loss.
To be honest, she didn’t have much experience taking care of people. She had no idea how to adjust someone’s position without waking them up.
After thinking for a while, she could only half-kneel beside the bed and help Ciel take off her shoes and socks from her dangling legs, placing them on the floor.
She looked at the quilt that Ciel was pressed between, went to both sides, turned the quilt over a little, and wrapped it around Ciel. Then she looked at Ciel’s slender, tender white calves and feet hanging outside.
Leaving her legs hanging out like this would easily cause nightmares…
Soon, Avena thought of a good method.
She walked to the sofa, used all her strength to lift a single-seater sofa, slowly moved it next to Ciel, placed it under her calves, then found a blanket and covered her calves.
After doing all this, Avena, slightly out of breath, put her right hand on her hip and used her left hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead.
She looked at the now messy bed, shaking her head with a smile.
Seeing Ciel’s relaxed appearance, she already knew that Ciel had definitely completed the plan perfectly.
…
“Mm…”
Around six in the morning, as the first ray of sunlight shone through the gap in the curtains, Ciel slowly opened her eyes.
She seemed to have had a nightmare. In the dream, she was wrapped up tightly and had difficulty breathing, and then the already dead Kitty was grabbing her feet and licking them wildly…
What a terrifying nightmare.
Ciel slowly propped herself up, pushing away the bedding that had made her sweat from the heat. The silk small blanket covering her calves also slipped down her smooth legs to the floor.
She sat on the edge of the bed, looking somewhat curiously at the sofa behind her and the blanket that had fallen to the floor.
Did Avena do this?
After picking up the blanket and placing it on the sofa, she looked back at the bed, searching for Avena’s presence.
Avena wasn’t on the bed. Ciel put on her slippers and got up. Just as she was about to go to the bathroom to wash up, she passed the sofa and saw Avena sleeping soundly on it.
Was she afraid of waking her up?
A hint of warmth welled up in Ciel’s heart. She slowed her steps and went into the bathroom, washed herself with cold water, and after washing up, Ciel changed into an outfit and left the room.
As she gently closed the door, a small, metallic buzzing voice came from behind her.
“Good morning, Miss Ciel.”
Whoa…
Ciel, startled, quickly turned around and saw Nia standing between the two windows, perfectly covered by the shadows.
“You scared me to death…”
Ciel patted her chest. She had been a little drowsy earlier, but now she was wide awake from the scare.
“Apologies.”
Nia lowered her head, apologized, and then asked in a low voice, “Did the plan go smoothly, Miss Ciel?”
“Smoothly,”
Ciel smiled and nodded. She said directly, “Unless something unexpected happens, nothing more will occur. It’s all finished.”
“Really?”
Nia was a little surprised by Ciel’s answer. Then, she also nodded. “That’s good… Are you planning to go out?”
“No rush,”
Ciel seemed to think of something. She looked at Nia before her and asked, “Are you free now, Nia? Can we step aside and talk?”
“Me?”
Nia was startled for a moment. She seemed to have never talked with Ciel alone before, so she was a little surprised by Miss Ciel’s request, but she still nodded. “Yes.”
