- Chapter 183 - Arriving at the World's Highest City—Ansu (2/3)
As for the configuration of personnel in the carriages, there was also a method to it.
Avena, Ciel, and Lichie in one carriage, with Ciel responsible for protection; Adele, Tara, and Amy in another carriage. The three accompanying maids rode in another carriage.
Nia rode a warhorse, escorting Avena’s carriage. Lucy rode alongside the carriage with Tara and the others.
It could be said that the people in any single carriage plus the escort could face a Tier 3 transcendent threat without fear. Even Amy had a sealed artifact of a divine servant from the spirit world behind her, making her self-preservation capabilities maximized.
Most importantly, there was no radio or similar technology at the moment. Information transmission was slow. Even if that assistant lecturer was really from the Society of Merriment, by the time their message was transmitted, Ciel would likely be on the land of Ansu City, and they would only find an empty space…
At least, that’s what Ciel hoped.
Everyone got into the carriages and set off towards their destination.
In the carriage, Avena looked at Ciel sitting beside her. She seemed to perceive Ciel’s inner worry at the moment. She didn’t say anything. She just reached out, held Ciel’s hand, and gently squeezed it.
“I’m fine.”
Feeling Avena’s hand movement, Ciel turned her wrist, gently held Avena’s hand in return, and shook her head.
Lichie, sitting opposite, also noticed Ciel’s expression and asked, “Ciel, are you feeling unwell?”
“No,”
Ciel shook her head and looked out the window. “First time leaving Berren City. A little nervous.”
“Me too…”
Lichie nodded. She could very well understand Ciel’s feelings.
Moreover, from where she was sitting, she could see Berren City gradually receding in the distance outside the window. Even now, Lichie still felt a little unreal.
This was also her first time going on a long journey. Her worry about the unknown was not much less than Ciel’s—but she and Ciel were not worried about the same thing.
At this moment, the flower Adele had discovered, which was now preserved in liquid, was hanging at Ciel’s waist.
Ciel had 【Precognitive Sight】. With the item on her, even if she was attacked, she could react faster.
Moreover, after resting for the past few days, the previously overloaded and damaged 【Nemesis】 had also recovered. At least within Berren City, she wouldn’t encounter any opponents.
But outside of Berren City, Ciel couldn’t guarantee absolute safety.
Because she hadn’t killed many people outside yet.
To ease Ciel’s emotions, Avena proactively started talking to the equally nervous Lichie about the interesting things they had experienced in Clock Tower Alley.
This was also something Avena was curious about. She wanted to know what kind of life Ciel had lived before.
This was not something that needed to be kept a secret. Ciel didn’t interrupt their conversation. She just listened quietly.
Upon hearing that Ciel had taken on almost all the housework and cooking when her sister was out working, Avena’s eyes showed a little surprise.
No wonder little Ciel is so skilled at cooking… It turns out she trained herself.
When asked the reason was that Ciel complained every day that the food in other places in Berren City was inedible, Avena couldn’t help but cover her mouth and chuckle.
She deeply resonated with that point.
However, the life Ciel lived before she encountered that organization… was it so difficult?
To be honest, Avena hadn’t had much exposure to life at the bottom. This conversation allowed Avena to imagine such a scene.
…In a simple two-story house in Berren City, little Ciel, wearing an apron, was cleaning, cooking delicious dishes. When she returned home after a hard day’s work, she would be greeted by cute Ciel and hot meals…
If it weren’t for Ciel, Avena wouldn’t have known what meaning there was to such a life. But with Ciel in her imagination, all of this seemed bearable again…
Where, doing what, these aren’t important. What’s important is Ciel.
“Ciel.”
Avena looked at Ciel, who was leaning against the carriage window, and said expressionlessly, “I also want to eat the food you cook.”
“You’ve eaten it before, haven’t you?” Ciel’s gaze shifted to Avena.
“I want to eat it everyday.” Avena said seriously.
“The maid game is over. Request denied.”
Ciel’s gaze returned to the window, maintaining her vigilance.
And Lichie, beside her, heard the words “maid game” and awkwardly turned her gaze away, looking at the patterns on the ceiling of the carriage…
These patterns, truly patterns… Are little Ciel and Avena playing such games? What is “maid game”? Lichie couldn’t imagine what kind of scene that would be.
However, fortunately, Avena’s topic successfully livened up the carriage a little. Ciel and Lichie’s respective nervousness also eased considerably.
No danger occurred until the convoy arrived at the train station three hours later.
After the coachmen moved all the luggage onto the train, Ciel and the others got out of the carriage, passed through the VIP waiting area, and walked directly into this private train.
This train was not as crowded as the ordinary and freight trains Ciel had ridden in the simulation. The space inside was spacious, and even the decoration was very classical and refined. There wasn’t much of the train’s unpleasant smell.
To Ciel’s surprise, although this train station was much smaller compared to the one in Ansu City, it was still quite large. But today, except for the crew members, Ciel hadn’t seen many passengers or travelers yet.
“Aren’t there a bit too few people?”
Ciel took a couple of faster steps, caught up with Avena ahead, and asked in a low voice.
“A small compensation from the Great Western Railway Company.”
Avena wasn’t too surprised about this. After all, she had directly informed the Great Western Railway Company commissioner that she needed to charter a train.
“They probably won’t sell tickets until we leave.”
Such a grand display.
Boarding the train was very quick. After Tara conducted a detailed inspection of the train crew members, and after 20 minutes of mechanical inspection and waiting for scheduling, around 12 o’clock, the train finally let out a whistle and slowly started moving.
Adele and Lichie had never been on a train before. They were both very curious about everything. They were leaning by the window, watching the scenery slowly fade behind them.
Only after the train’s speed finally picked up did Ciel lean back on the soft seat and slowly exhale in relief.
Was she worrying too much?
Scaring herself.

She really needs to utilize past days more, at the very least for potion advancements and general info gathering.
Once she’s done resting her spirit I guess.
