- Chapter 207 - Invitation from the Pharos Medical Association (2/2)
“This is also one of the reasons why the Church of the God of Order was accepted by the Ansu royal family. Many nobles and officials have embraced the faith of the Church of the God of Order, and many clergy members have also participated in political affairs.”
Lafayette said this, then changed the subject.
“But even with the constraints of potions and doctrines, the greed of human nature and the desire for power still cannot be suppressed. The Holy Law Court has issued stricter and stricter decrees repeatedly, but it cannot stop the spread of corruption.”
“This contradicts their belief in pursuing absolute order… So their Pope found us… with a ritual from the Other Side.”
“This is a technology originating from the Other Side. I can only reveal this much to you.”
“If you truly want to know more, you can choose to join us. My previous promise is still valid. As long as you don’t damage that thing, Forte cannot harm you.”
Lafayette looked at Ciel and extended the invitation again.
“Will I be treated as an experimental subject?”
Ciel’s expression wavered slightly, seemingly persuaded by Lafayette. She slowly said, “Like Windsor…”
Sensing the wavering in Ciel’s expression, Lafayette immediately began to assure her, “Heh heh heh… Of course not. On the contrary, we will be the ones who least want your mind to have problems.”
Ciel looked at Lafayette before her. After a moment of silence, she said, “Then where will I join? The Pharos Medical Association? The Church of the God of Order?”
“Originally, I was going to send you to the Church of the God of Order.”
Lafayette secretly breathed a sigh of relief and continued, “Now, I believe the Pharos Medical Association is more suitable for you.”
“…I can give you the item and join you.”
Ciel stated her final condition, “But you must first let me leave and give me a token, a token that I can use to find and join you without being suspected.”
Let her go? A token?
To be honest, these two conditions were easily met. As long as Ciel handed over that frontal lobe, these would not be problems.
“Of course, Ciel.”
Lafayette slowly raised her hand, making her movements as slow as possible to avoid making Ciel feel threatened.
She slowly grabbed her goggles and took them off, revealing her two eyeballs.
Lafayette directly reached out. Her right hand, wearing a white glove, went directly into her eye socket and pulled out her eyeball.
“Ugh… heh heh…”
The pain made Lafayette grunt. Then, holding the bloodstained eyeball, she lightly tossed it beside Ciel.
The eyeball traced an arc and landed on the edge of the bed, stopping at a certain distance from Ciel.
Behind the eyeball, the bloody tendrils that were originally used to connect to Lafayette’s eye socket slowly wriggled on the mattress. Like a snail, it moved little by little towards Ciel.
Ciel raised her gunblade and fired a shot directly at the eyeball.
Bang—!
The bullet pierced through the eyeball. The seed quickly sprouted and took root, rapidly draining the remaining vitality of the eyeball. Ciel looked at Lafayette and said coldly, “No living things.”
This kind of item would only cause Ciel unnecessary risks if she redeemed it. She couldn’t accept this kind of strange token—especially a creation handed over by a “Reborn.”
These flesh and blood creations were likely the “Reborn”‘s weapons or attack methods.
Lafayette didn’t expect Ciel to be so decisive. After a moment of hesitation, she directly reached out, took off the necklace around her neck, and threw it in Ciel’s direction.
“This is the ‘Proof of Enlightenment’, the symbol of a professor at the Pharos Medical Association. You can take this to the Church of the God of Order or the Pharos Medical Association to prove your identity… You just need to show this and say my name.”
Lafayette slowly added, “Every ‘Proof of Enlightenment’ is unique. It is an identification document, made of pure silver. There are no transcendent materials. You can check it.”
Ciel raised her gunblade, used the tip of the blade to lift the necklace. She then raised the gun. The necklace slid down the barrel and onto Ciel’s wrist, hanging there.
Even if there were imprints on it, the system would automatically spend points to remove them when redeeming. When redeeming the Spiritual Notes before, the system would automatically remove the spiritual imprints on them.
“That… frontal lobe…”
Lafayette pointed to Ciel’s pocket and said.
It seems…
She can’t stall any longer.
Click—
Ciel reached into her other pocket and directly flicked open the pocket watch cover with her thumb, turning the central gear of the pocket watch.
“Sorry, Lafayette.”
Ciel smiled slightly.
“You can play with the bullet for a while.”
“Headhunter…”
Click—
The barrel of the 【Deadly Blood Roland】 seemed to shatter. Silver cracks spread across it, shimmering with a trembling glow. Ciel’s index finger twitched and pulled the trigger.
Boom—!
Accompanied by a horrifying explosion, a silver seed roared out of the barrel, shooting directly at Lafayette’s head.
Under the cover of the explosion and gunfire, Ciel rolled backward, quickly ran towards the glass behind her, used her elbow to break the glass, passed through the glass shards, protected the frontal lobe in her pocket with one hand, and ran quickly.
Damn it!
Looking at the bullet whistling towards her, Lafayette’s eyes were about to split open.
Smack—
Her head was quickly shattered. Even the stubby spine of her neck and the rapidly healing muscles and blood vessels were revealed.
But Lafayette’s headless body directly chased in the direction Ciel had just left.
A qualified “Reborn” wouldn’t only have one set of body organs.
…
At this moment, Forte, who had just gotten off his carriage and was about to visit the Holy See of the Church of the God of Order, frowned slightly.
He looked up towards Windsor Palace. The terrifying explosion and gunshots from over there had been picked up by his keen ears.
He lowered his right hand. An illusory key appeared in his hand. He gently flicked it, and a phantom heavy note quickly spread out from him as the center. Through the echo of the heavy note, he sensed two figures chasing each other…
And two corpses lying inside Windsor Palace.
Wait… What happened?
“Your Excellency Forte, welcome… Your Excellency?”
Under the gaze of the Cardinal of the Church of the God of Order, Forte turned to look at him and said, “Bishop in Blue Robe, perhaps I need to trouble you to take action…”
…
Ciel ran quickly. Her goal was simple.
Stall, just stall hard, stall until time runs out.
Twenty minutes left…

Isn’t it bad to stall if it lets Forte edit his notes to target Ciel?
Why not stall time by having her write a contract in name of god of order. Then stall time adding clauses.
Seems like lafayette never truly intended for Ciel to join the way she promised, so she wouldnt want to uphold a proper contract
She doesn’t have the upper hand here to haggle demands. Lafayette knows Ciel murdered the princess so Ciel can only concede to options where Lafayette won’t call her out immediately.
