- Chapter 223 - Returning to Reality, Segmented Saves? (3/4)
Avena’s expression gradually became speechless. She knew Ciel was joking, but the joke wasn’t funny at all.
“Then you better pray that you won’t have a day when you are too weak to walk.”
Avena raised her hand expressionlessly and fiercely pinched Ciel’s soft waist under the blanket. The pain made Ciel gasp.
Fortunately, in the simulation, Avena hadn’t done anything to her… Ciel didn’t like feeling passive. It made her uncomfortable—but for herself under the influence of potions, nothing seemed more important than sleeping.
It was a feeling of completely giving up.
“Get up now.”
Ciel didn’t continue to tease Avena in bed. She looked at Avena and asked, “Do you have any plans for today?”
Avena also sat up. She looked at Ciel and asked back, “Shouldn’t I be asking you that? I always tell you what I’m going to do, unlike some people who like to disappear.”
Ciel awkwardly looked away and changed the subject, “I plan to go see Adele first and pay her salary.”
“Potion production fee?”
Avena nodded. “Adele and Amy have both moved out… You are also planning to move to your new home today, right?”
“Yes.”
After Ciel replied, she suddenly remembered something. She looked at Avena and instructed, “The guest list for the banquet has changed a little… I will organize the list later and give you the detailed list.”
What Ciel was referring to was Avena’s housewarming dinner.
Originally, the guest list for the banquet included a large number of transcendents, including high-level ones like Eleanor and Lucy.
Previously, Ciel’s main purpose was to use the banquet to lure out the member of the Society of Merriment who had truly obtained Adele’s information, but now that was no longer necessary.
Ciel had already caught her in the simulation. Mond von Rhein—that was her real identity, the daughter of a great noble from the Devo Federation. Her persona was that of someone who loved painting and freedom.
Once her identity was known, the rest of the matter was simple.
Even if Ciel didn’t personally take action, she could have Tara take the scepter to Eleanor and have Eleanor directly apprehend Mond.
As long as Mond was dead and Ashford didn’t speak, Adele would be absolutely safe. No one would connect the antidote to Adele.
However…
Did Mond have to die now?
She also had an identity within the Pharos Medical Association and was very close to another key figure, Lafayette. Mond even had another identity… She was a student of that mysterious transcendent in North Ansu who was performing the reconstitution ritual.
Would she be more useful alive than dead?
The answer was yes.
The most critical issue was how Ciel could stably control this bomb without it blowing up on her and harming Adele.
Resolving Mond’s matter had become Ciel’s priority, even more urgent than resolving Forte’s matter.
One must know that Mond in the simulation had indeed revealed information to Forte, indirectly leading to Ciel’s capture.
Once Adele was discovered, Ciel wouldn’t be able to escape unscathed either.
Forte’s matter was not as urgent… There was still plenty of time now. Forte hadn’t reached the point of being desperate yet.
The church merger was a good point to distract Forte. It must be used well.
Although the “Keyman”‘s ability to take on disguises wasn’t great, Ciel was an expert in the field of disguises—she herself couldn’t even remember how many layers of disguises she had.
Judicator’s Court, Deton Group employee, Society of Merriment Overseer, Mother Goddess…
Avena looked at Ciel, who was standing by the bed, dressed. She really wanted to ask Ciel if there was anything she needed help with, because she was quite free today.
But she couldn’t bring herself to say it—even though she had just said yesterday that she would stay by Ciel’s side 24/7 and make sure she rested.
Asking if she needed help again felt like humbly begging Ciel to let her do something… Avena’s pride wouldn’t allow her to ask about things she had already asked before.
Avena was not discouraged. She believed that as long as she worked hard enough, she would definitely be able to keep up with Ciel’s pace.
At least on this point, she was still confident.
Who hadn’t been a talented young girl once?
“Oh, right, Avena,”
Ciel looked at Avena and asked, “How much do I have left with you?”
Hearing Ciel’s question, Avena looked at Ciel before her with a hint of speechlessness and said, “Are you asking how much you owe me?”
“Uh…”
Ciel blinked and asked weakly, “How much do I owe…”
“The price difference for buying and selling various potions, the usage fee for the Substitute Death Relic, perfect quality ‘Detective’ materials, ‘Gardener’ potion, house deposit and rent…”
Avena thought for a moment and replied, “You probably still owe me a few dozen pounds… Your three thousand plus pounds were spent long ago. The vast majority was on ‘Detective’ materials and the house.”
“Is perfect quality that expensive…?”
Ciel had never asked about the price. She thought it would be around a thousand Su Pounds, but it seemed that wasn’t the case.
“This is top-quality material that can only be obtained by direct blood relatives of the Roswell family.”
Avena explained, “If you want to buy it on the market, at least in Ansu, it’s impossible to buy. It’s a monopoly.”
Indeed, monopolies were the most expensive.
“Avena… Lend me some money. I need to pay Adele’s salary…”
Ciel glanced at the Deton Group employee card beside her. “I’ll pay you back when I get paid… Oh, right, can that bottle of potion be sold…?”
Ciel had always thought she was quite wealthy, but unexpectedly, she seemed to have gone bankrupt without realizing it.
“It cannot flow into the market. You need to find a reliable private buyer.”
Avena looked at Ciel expressionlessly and said, “Didn’t Lucy transfer 3000 Su Pounds to your employee card?”
Avena looked at Ciel, who was a little lost in thought. She quietly got up, put on a large coat, and directly left Ciel’s suite.
A moment later, Avena opened the door and came back. She had a check in her hand.
“Here’s a little extra. Ask me for more when you run out.”
Avena casually handed the check to Ciel.
Ciel took the check and looked at the number on it.
5,000.
Five thousand pounds…
The moment Ciel saw the number, her breath hitched slightly. Her hand holding the check felt somewhat stiff.
This is called giving a little extra?
Or maybe she was just used to being poor and was a little too sensitive to numbers.
How much was this that so many people couldn’t earn in a lifetime, no, ten lifetimes?
Even Lucy would have to grit her teeth and save for a long time for five thousand pounds, right?
“This… so much?”
Ciel said somewhat hesitantly, “Your business…”
“Take it.”
Avena said with her arms crossed, in an almost commanding tone.
Ciel didn’t refuse anymore and accepted the check. She didn’t have many places to spend money now and might not necessarily cash this check.
Is this what it feels like to be supported by a wealthy woman?
If only there were no transcendent abilities in this world. She was already feeling the urge to not try hard anymore.
