Red cigarette…
“Would Your Highness like one?”
The man, as if trying to be helpful, took out an exquisite wooden carved cigarette case. Upon opening it, it was filled with red cigarettes.
“Thank you.”
Vitalis reached out, picked one out, and held it up to examine it.
Cigarettes also have the effect of treating the lungs? This was the first time she had ever heard of this… Could it be a new variety developed by some medical association or the Natura Medical Group? And it had the support of two major churches?
Who could have such influence?
A gust of wind blew past. A drop of rain fell on the red cigarette in front of Vitalis’s eyes, landing on the tip of the cigarette.
The blood-red dry tobacco, upon contact with the rainwater, actually slightly wriggled in Vitalis’s sight, like entangled red threadworms.
Vitalis subconsciously threw away the cigarette before her eyes, looking at the red cigarette lying on the sewage in shock and uncertainty.
“Hey, hey, hey, please don’t waste it, Your Highness…”
That noble man actually rushed forward without any dignity, knelt on the sewage-covered ground, picked up the cigarette, and quickly stuffed it into the inner pocket of his raincoat, protecting it as if it were a treasure.
Something is wrong… something is wrong…
Why haven’t others noticed this?
Is it because… her spiritual vision is relatively high?
Vitalis scanned the street again.
The Garden Square in the rain was still crowded. This light drizzle couldn’t stop the people of Ansu from coming out to enjoy the night, but most people had one of these cigarettes in their mouths.
Perhaps the people of Ansu City had grown accustomed to this during this time, but Vitalis, who had just returned from Pharos, found this scene strange and absurd.
Faint red smoke was exhaled from different people’s mouths. The burnt cigarette butts were casually thrown onto the ground, and were carried by the water flow into the sewers, merging into the city’s sewage system.
This is too strange…
“Let’s go.”
Vitalis just said one sentence to the guards behind her and quickly walked into the rainy night.
She wanted to leave this dreadful place quickly and return to Vitalis Palace. At this moment, she didn’t even want to wait for a carriage; she just wanted to walk back quickly.
Her spiritual sense seemed to be warning her that she shouldn’t stay in this place for long.
But just as she passed the exquisite central fountain of the Garden Market, Vitalis subconsciously stopped and looked towards the fountain.
Brightly blooming flowers were placed around the marble fountain. And beside the fountain, a red-haired young girl calmly stood in the center of the square, scanning the surrounding crowd.
A green-haired maid was holding an umbrella for her behind her, but the maid seemed to be holding something else in her hand.
The beautiful young girl with red long hair said something to the maid, then took a strange ring from the maid’s hand.
Thump—
Vitalis’s heart suddenly leaped, as if struck by a heavy hammer. The spiritual alarm in her mind had begun to emit a deafening buzz, as if warning her that something was about to happen—all the potions in her body were screaming at her to flee this dreadful place.
Adrenaline was surging wildly. In Princess Vitalis’s eyes, the young girl’s movements were as if they had turned the surrounding crowd into slow motion. She could even see raindrops falling before her eyes like fine threads.
She saw that young girl, gripping the ring in her hand, her eyes emitting golden and silver light.
The next moment, the strange ring suddenly cracked open. Silver cracks appeared on it, and then with the young girl’s slight force…
Snap—
The ring shattered.
Instantly.
The bustling square seemed to have been pressed with a pause button.
The hawking of street performers, the footsteps of the dispersing audience, the conversations of drunkards, the speeches of idealists… all sounds completely disappeared, leaving only the crisp sound of raindrops falling on the cobblestone path.
“Huh?”
In such a quiet environment, Vitalis finally heard the young girl’s voice.
The young girl seemed to have finally noticed that at this moment, there was still a gaze fixed on her.
The red-haired young girl slowly turned her head. The silver watch face rotating in her right eye and the golden gears rotating in her left eye were reflected in Vitalis’s vision at this moment.
The moment their eyes met, an indescribable fear surged uncontrollably from Vitalis’s heart. They had clearly never met before, yet Vitalis felt a chilling sensation, as if an animal had encountered the gaze of its natural predator.
“Long time no see… I almost forgot, you were coming back for a short time today…”
The red-haired young girl simply showed her a faint smile. “You didn’t lie. That’s good…”
Crack crack—
Behind Vitalis, sounds like breaking bones echoed. It was as if something was squeezing and crushing the bones of the guards behind her.
Crack crack crack—
Harsh sounds echoed, layer upon layer.
Vitalis could see the still figures around the young girl. Their skin began to ripple underneath. It was as if something was frantically drawing nutrients from their bodies and continuously proliferating.
Splat—
A mass of mycelium mixed with mucus burst through the chest of a man on the other side of the fountain and began to frantically entwine his body, twisting his appearance.
Blood sprayed into the fountain. The originally sacred and clean fountain now gushed with a stream of blood, staining the sculptures on it red one by one.
“Ahhhhhhhhh!!!”
A scream not far away tore through the tranquility here.
All the “people” seemed to have been half-activated. Twisted grotesque figures began to writhe in the dark rainy night. Those horrifying “people,” entwined by mycelium, began to pounce on the uninfected—biting off their necks with a “snap.”
An extreme level of gore and terror, never before seen, unfolded in front of Vitalis’s eyes. And the beautiful young girl with red long hair simply smiled and waved at her, then turned and left with the little green-haired maid.
Tonight was destined to be sleepless.

Zombies are fine. A zombie infection originating from fungus is fine. But damn, zombies wrapped in mycelium? I mean, it makes complete sense but still, damn.
Also, I just realized. Ciel is called the Mother Goddess, and now, mushroom-induced apocalypse?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Mycelium fungus zombies are the best zombies, see “Sickly Girl Doesn’t Die in Zombie Simulator” which is by same author
