- Chapter 255 - The "Father-in-law's" Assist? (3/4)
“(Old Ansu language) Ask away, child. I will definitely tell you everything I know.”
Raven smiled and nodded. She had a good impression of diligent and studious children, especially those with such a high level of proficiency in Old Ansu language.
“(Old Ansu language) May I ask if you were at Vitalis Palace today?”
Ciel looked at Raven and asked directly in Old Ansu language.
As long as she spoke in the West District, there was a chance of being overheard by Forte. But Old Ansu language was fine, because Forte could only write some simple textual symbols and had never thoroughly studied how to listen to or speak Old Ansu language.
Avena looked at Ciel, then at Raven, and instantly felt as if she couldn’t interject… Her Old Ansu language was nowhere near fluent enough for conversation.
Of the people present, probably only Tara could understand some of it.
“(Old Ansu language) Vitalis Palace?”
Raven slightly frowned. She looked at the red-haired young girl before her somewhat warily. “(Old Ansu language) Why are you asking about this?”
Working in the royal family, confidentiality was naturally very important. She didn’t want to be implicated by casually revealing royal secrets.
“(Old Ansu language) As you know, Avena and her father, and their family dynamics are not very good. Princess Windsor told me that there was an important guest at Vitalis Palace today, perhaps I could seek some help from him.”
Ciel looked at Raven and said without changing her expression, “(Old Ansu language) But I don’t know who that important guest is. I only know someone named Forte.”
When facing others, Ciel could lie directly without any psychological burden. Although she could have Avena control Raven to speak the truth, this would be somewhat unfair to Avena… After all, this was a teacher who was very good to her.
“(Old Ansu language) Is that so…”
Hearing that it was about Avena and the name Windsor, Raven’s guard lessened considerably.
After thinking for a moment, she looked at Ciel before her and said in Old Ansu language, “(Old Ansu language) Today was a routine private luncheon. This is not a secret. Princess Windsor probably wants you to go directly to Duke Charles. He was also at the luncheon.”
Private luncheon… Charles was also present…
According to this, there would also be other important officials present. That was not good news for Ciel.
“Was the luncheon still ongoing at 12 o’clock?”
Ciel pressed.
“It usually starts at 11:30 and ends at 13:00… It’s almost over now. You are late.”
Did it rewind to when the luncheon was taking place…? Then Forte’s rewind anchor point is likely at the dining table.
And the more specific location, only Duke Charles would know…
Ciel could continue to ask for the names of other important officials and find a weak target to pick on, but doing so was useless.
Because Charles would definitely attend the luncheon, and if it rewound, Charles would also appear at the dining table… No matter what, Ciel would run into Charles.
Killing just Forte, Ciel can still do that… But if there is a Tier 4 “Eye of Judgement” interfering beside him, things become tricky.
Why exactly at Vitalis Palace…?
Ciel lowered her head and pondered.
It seemed she really did need to go talk to this “father-in-law” and gauge his attitude…
If she determined that Charles would not cooperate with her, then Ciel would have to…
Ciel shifted her gaze to Avena.
No matter what, Charles was Avena’s father. If she truly had to “deal with” him, Avena must know about it.
“Thank you, Professor Raven.”
Ciel switched back to Ansu language. She stood up and bowed slightly to Raven. “I will talk to the Duke.”
The Duke?
Now Avena understood.
Dukes were not common in Ansu City. There were only eight dukes who resided permanently in Ansu City. Considering the people who could frequently enter and exit Vitalis Palace, it was mostly only her father, Duke Charles.
However, Avena did not directly ask Ciel here. Instead, she buried the question in her heart.
Having gotten her answer, Ciel bid farewell to Raven and got into the carriage with Avena.
In the carriage, Avena finally looked at Ciel and asked, “Are you… going to find my father?”
“Mm.”
Ciel did not hide it.
“Is it related to… this matter?”
“Yes.”
Ciel nodded.
Avena’s heart was filled with mixed emotions regarding Ciel’s answer.
“Then… do you need me to…”
Avena was about to say something else, but was interrupted by Ciel.
“No, I need to go alone this time,”
Ciel looked at Avena beside her and said, “It’s just a simple inquiry. There’s no danger. Nothing will happen.”
“…Okay.”
After a moment of silence, Avena also nodded.
If she were to go back to the Duke’s mansion with Ciel, it was very likely that she wouldn’t be able to get out. This time, she truly couldn’t accompany Ciel inside.
But if there were danger, even if she couldn’t get out after going in, Avena would accompany Ciel.
Ciel and Tara got off the carriage at the intersection and watched Avena’s carriage leave.
Avena, sitting in the carriage, leaned back against the back of the seat and sighed softly.
At this moment, her state of mind still lingered on her inability to help Ciel. To her, the crisis Ciel faced seemed to deepen with each meeting, while Avena could not keep up with the pace at all.
Ciel, standing at the intersection, did not look away until Avena’s carriage disappeared from her sight.
She naturally saw Avena’s frustration, but she was helpless and couldn’t say anything directly.
Ciel was like a scarecrow swaying in the temporal turbulence. The slightest carelessness could cause her to be uprooted by the strong winds. And all of this, she could only keep hidden in her heart.
Ciel shook her head, temporarily shaking off the trivial matters in her mind.
Right now, she had more important things to do.
She didn’t want to go to Duke Charles alone. With an extra helper, she would have more bargaining chips. Otherwise, Duke Charles wouldn’t easily believe anything she said.
She couldn’t even use simulation to test things out—because she had to preserve this Past Days simulation.
For this, she had to take a risk in reality.
It was very likely that Forte hadn’t had time to take action against the Church of the Savior Goddess and the Church of the God of Order yet. By going to find someone now, she might be able to find a helper from either Eleanor or Pope Erigma.
As for having Tara go get Percy now, it was definitely too late.
