This Wave of Zombies is No Good - Chapter 1
It had been over five months since the spread of the zombie virus.
In these five months, they have experienced the spread of the virus and the panic of humanity.
Several cities have fallen, filled with zombies.
But at the same time, humans were also fighting back vigorously.
Two months after the outbreak of the zombie virus, the epidemic was finally partially controlled.
The government had established some safe zones, reorganized the army, formed thousands of rescue teams, and went deep into some epidemic areas with fewer zombies to search for and bring out survivors.
At this moment, in City C.
This was a bank, or it used to be a bank.
Inside the bank’s barbed wire fence, it’s a quiet and peaceful world, with a dozen students sitting or lying in the closed bank hall.
Outside the bank, however, was a scene of the apocalypse, with zombies walking all over the street, mottled blood stains, and a decaying smell.
It’s hard to imagine that just a month ago, this was a medium-sized city, a bustling scene.
City C was by the sea. Originally, everyone thought that the zombie virus epidemic would not break out here, but later the epidemic still lost control here.
The government evacuated most of the uninfected people and left a city full of zombies.
The five-person team led by Zou Lang was one of the teams searching for survivors in City C.
This operation had been going on for more than half a month. They have assembled thirteen students in a university town for rescue. The five-person team had already suffered casualties and only two people were left.
Their originally planned escape route suddenly had an accident, the bridge collapsed.
Now, a group of people were trapped in the city, bullets and food were used up, they ran out of ammunition and food.
Zou Lang tightened his combat suit belt and fiddled with the communicator in his hand, but there was no message. It had been three days since the distress signal was sent out. The communicator was broken and could only send out information, but it could not receive any.
Or…there was another possibility, that those signals never existed…
Zou Lang interrupted his thoughts, optimistically assuming that those messages had been sent out. At least that gave him a glimmer of hope.
The past two days were overcast, and the solar charger was running low on power. At the same time, they were cut off from water and food sources, and night was about to fall.
Soon, this city without power would plunge into darkness, a kind of darkness that could drive people mad, a darkness where one didn’t know if dawn would come.
The team member with Zou Lang was a young soldier with a bun-like face. He shrank next to Zou Lang and said, “Captain, I’m afraid.”
He was only eighteen this year, a new recruit who had just enlisted for a year. The things he had seen and heard on this journey had already destroyed his will.
He was afraid of the night. When night fell, those zombies would swarm towards the wire fence, making a crackling sound. Once this last barrier disappeared, they would all become a feast for the zombies.
Zou Lang laughed, “What are you afraid of? Is fear useful? If it’s useful, I’ll be afraid with you.”
After he finished speaking, he magically pulled out a small corn sausage from a pocket, winked at the little bun, and told him not to make a fuss, “Sausage, do you want to eat it? I grabbed it when we ran past a small supermarket.”
The little bun hesitated a bit, but still took it. He looked back to make sure those students weren’t looking this way, swallowed his saliva, “Captain… you’ve been saving it for a long time, haven’t you…”
Zou Lang patted his head, “Eat it, who made you the youngest.”
At the same age, some were students, some were soldiers. Once they pick up a gun, they have to charge and defend the safety of others. Everyone was human, everyone was afraid, everyone was flesh and blood, no one was made of steel.
Only then did the little bun tear open the packaging of the corn sausage, carefully taking small bites, as if eating a delicious meal, “Captain…will someone come to save us?”
“Yes, your captain still has to go home and get married.” Zou Lang laughed, it was a joke, but it felt a bit sad when he said it.
“Look! A plane!” A student suddenly pointed at the small window and shouted.
“Could it be here to pick us up?” The crowd immediately boiled over.
“Where’s the plane?” Several people immediately crowded in front of the small window.
Zou Lang also stood up to look. He had a height advantage and indeed saw an aircraft appearing in the sky. He even heard the humming sound of the aircraft’s engine.
But unlike those blindly happy students, he knew that this plane was probably not here to rescue them. The reason was simple, the plane was too small, it couldn’t fit so many people.
Sure enough, the plane circled nearby, dropped something, a few parachute packs were opened, and flew away after turning a corner.
“Disperse, disperse, it might be transporting supplies. Wait until tomorrow, we’ll try to go out and see if we can find the supply packs,” Zou Lang comforted the students.
One by one, the students’ faces turned ashen. From hope to disappointment to despair, they all went back to lie down. At this time when there was nothing to eat or drink, conserving energy was very important.
Zou Lang turned his head to see where the supply packs had landed, but saw a parachute falling in this direction. Under the parachute was not a supply pack, but rather a person.
He rubbed his eyes and saw clearly, it really was a person.
“This plane, just dropping a person, what’s the use?” Zou Lang casually complained.
In the following days, he felt extremely embarrassed every time he thought of what he had said.
Reality taught him that people were different. Sometimes, more people could really make a difference.
