This Wave of Zombies is No Good - Chapter 16
After hearing what Fang Yanzhou had to say, Zou Lang was put into the ICU by the nurse.
The nurse tactfully left, leaving just the two of them in the room. Zou Lang directly lifted Yu Jingtang’s blanket and moved closer to the bed.
Yu Jingtang showed a somewhat disgusted but helpless expression, and his body moved slightly, trying to make room for him. As soon as he moved, he was in so much pain that he broke out in a cold sweat.
Zou Lang held him down, “No, no, no, I’m fine here, I won’t fall off, big brother, you mustn’t move.”
Yu Jingtang gave him a glare, “I’m numb from lying down, I want to turn over.”
Zou Lang said, “Alright, then I’ll help you, where do you want to move?”
“No need, I won’t move.” Yu Jingtang sighed weakly, “You, unblock my IV tube.”
Only then did Zou Lang realize that he was pressing on Yu Jingtang’s IV tube, and he laughed awkwardly. He propped himself up and rerouted the IV tube.
After such small talk, Zou Lang looked at Yu Jingtang’s face, as pale as the hospital bed sheet, but it made his eyebrows and eyes look even darker. He felt both heartache and loneliness for a few days, and wanted to touch him. But when he reached out his hand, he felt like he didn’t dare to touch anywhere. In the end, he just brushed away some hair that was blocking his eyes. To alleviate the awkward atmosphere, Zou Lang looked around and said, “This is my first time entering the legendary ICU, what are all these devices for?”
At that moment, Yu Jingtang was really afraid that he would be curious and try to play with them. He endured and asked instead, “Where are the students?”
“They’re all fine.”
“How many days have I been asleep?”
“Three days.”
“Where is this?”
“This is the Third Military Hospital in City S.”
“Did they tell my mom about my injury?”
“They probably haven’t yet.”
“Hm,” Yu Jingtang nodded, “When I get better, I’ll tell her myself.”
Zou Lang understood. Given his personality of always reporting good news and not bad news, he probably wouldn’t say anything in the end.
Yu Jingtang looked at the bandage on Zou Lang’s chest, knowing that he was also injured and had carried him quite a distance. He felt a bit guilty and asked, “Are you badly hurt?”
Zou Lang started to act shamelessly, furrowed his brows, grabbed Yu Jingtang’s hand and placed it on his chest, saying passionately, “I’m badly hurt, it hurts here, my heart hurts…”
Yu Jingtang regretted asking, indifferently withdrew his hand, and spoke in a slick tone, it seemed like it was nothing serious.
Zou Lang looked at Yu Jingtang again, remembering how he was covered in blood and lying in his arms a few days ago, he was still scared, “You scared me to death that day.”
Yu Jingtang coldly said, “I didn’t mean to scare you.” He looked at Zou Lang, the two of them had only known each other for ten days, but it felt like they were old friends who had known each other for many years. After saying this, Yu Jingtang felt a bit of palpitations, cold sweat kept coming out, he slowly shrank his body, gritted his teeth and said, “I…I want to be alone for a while…” He felt a bit nauseous after saying a few words, even though he hadn’t eaten anything. His stomach felt like it was being burned by fire.
Zou Lang was most familiar with his expression, he wanted to endure it himself again. He furrowed his brows and hugged him, “This is a hospital, it’s not the time for you to endure. I’ll call the doctor for you.”
Yu Jingtang was so uncomfortable that he couldn’t speak, he was shaken by him, then he suddenly furrowed his brows, turned his head and vomited some dark blood clots.
Zou Lang was startled by him, jumped up from the bed and pressed the emergency bell on the bed.
Fang Yanzhou had just left for ten minutes, and was pulled back in by the nurses. He pushed his glasses and looked at Zou Lang, his expression seemed to say, ‘you really know how to make a fuss, you can make someone vomit blood in ten minutes’. After another check, he said, “It’s okay, it should be the old blood, it’s a good thing to vomit it out.”
Zou Lang finally relaxed.
Yu Jingtang felt a bit better after vomiting out the blood clots. Because of Zou Lang’s fuss, his face was tinged with a thin layer of red.
By the fifth day, Yu Jingtang was able to sit up with the help of the nurse.
In the morning, Fang Yanzhou didn’t come, it was the nurse who checked the room, changed the medicine, and checked the wound. She asked him, “Exhaust gas yet?”
Yu Jingtang didn’t understand, “What?”
“Fart.” The nurse said two words, then said, “Oh, I’m not cursing, Major, after abdominal gastrointestinal surgery, you need to wait until you exhaust gas before you can eat.”
Yu Jingtang thought carefully, and with difficulty spat out two words, “Not yet…”
Then his face turned red. He was thin-skinned, he had never discussed this kind of thing in front of a young girl.
The nurse saw his red face and thought it was both cute and funny, she comforted him, “Don’t be shy, generally after a cesarean section, appendicitis surgery, you need to exhaust gas, everyone is like this, exhausting gas indicates that the stomach and intestines have recovered their peristalsis. Your recovery is a bit slower than the average person, normal patients can eat a small amount of food at this time.” She was used to this, if all patients were as thin-skinned as Yu Jingtang, the hospital wouldn’t need to be open.
After understanding the reason, Yu Jingtang remembered that there was also this requirement after the last surgery to remove the shrapnel, but he was much less injured at that time, and the healing was smooth, but this time there was no movement at all.
The Major seemed a bit melancholic, clutching his stomach as if he had done something wrong.
The nurse continued to comfort him, “Drink some radish soup, massage more, exercise more, apply heat. Your wound hasn’t healed yet, so it’s not recommended to exercise or apply heat.”
Yu Jingtang didn’t have the strength to massage himself and didn’t want to bother Zou Lang. Yesterday, Zou Lang insisted on massaging him for a long time, and indeed touched him all over, taking advantage of him quite a bit.
Zou Lang disappeared for a morning. Just when Yu Jingtang thought he would have a quiet day, Zou Lang came again around noon, and this time he brought something. He handed him a stainless steel thermos cup with both hands, saying, “Have some water.”
Yu Jingtang found it strange, but couldn’t pinpoint why. He was indeed thirsty, but his gastrointestinal peristalsis hadn’t fully recovered yet, so he couldn’t drink much water, only small sips.
Then he took a sip and frowned slightly. The water tasted wrong, it was radish soup.
The Major held his forehead with one hand, his originally cold face turned red, he almost wanted to crush the thermos cup in his hand.
It seemed that Zou Lang had gossiped with the nurse about the gas exhausting thing.
The Major really wanted to curse. Why does this kind of thing have to be reported to others?
Even if he told the doctor and nurse, why did he have to ask?
Even if he asked, couldn’t they leave some face for each other and pretend not to know? What did it mean to hand over a cup of radish soup?
This feeling made him feel very bad. He felt like he was becoming a useless person.
Unhappy as he was, Yu Jingtang still pressed on his wound and drank a few sips with a stiff upper lip.
By lunchtime, the nurse began to deliver lunch. Zou Lang ordered a special meal and specifically had it delivered to the ICU. He was eating pork rib noodles at the table next to him.
Yu Jingtang was pitifully half-sitting, he could only watch and couldn’t eat, but his nose could smell the aroma, and his ears could hear the sound. Zou Lang was so unreserved that he was stimulated and felt hungry.
Thinking about the pork rib noodles, there was a light rumbling sound from his stomach.
Zou Lang had sharp ears and raised his head to say, “I think I heard your stomach growl.”
Yu Jingtang was adamant and denied it to the death, “You heard wrong.”
Zou Lang put down his noodles and ran over to say, “No way.”
As he spoke, he leaned in, like a big dog, gently lying on Yu Jingtang’s body. The radish soup worked well, there was already a slight bowel sound in his stomach.
Yu Jingtang was annoyed by his action, he pushed his forehead to get him off his stomach, “Zou Lang, don’t push your luck.”
With a little force, there was a light puff sound from under the blanket.
Both of them were stunned.
Yu Jingtang was extremely embarrassed, he turned into a cooked shrimp.
Zou Lang was unabashed, he hugged him and gave him a kiss. As if he had done something amazing, then he ruffled his hair, “You’re just injured, what’s there to be shy about, where is there a living person who doesn’t fart.”
Yu Jingtang lowered his head, his eyelashes casting a shadow, still not wanting to talk to him. He was clearly such a lofty person, but now he was as helpless as a child. Even the simplest things in life required someone to take care of him. His hospital gown revealed a bit of his collarbone, looking thin and frail.
He wasn’t particularly thin to begin with, just a bit on the thin side, but now he had lost a lot of weight.
Zou Lang looked at him and felt another pang of heartache, he gently touched his forehead and said, “You need to get better soon, I want to take good care of you, fatten you up a bit.”
