This Wave of Zombies is No Good - Chapter 9
Zou Lang was always pretending to be relaxed, but he knew exactly what was going on. His head was tilted by the muzzle of a gun. He didn’t speak or defend himself. For once, he didn’t back down. His gaze was fixed on Yu Jingtang, open and honest. He knew he had touched Yu Jingtang’s sore spot. But he had to do this. He had spent the previous night awake, looking at Yu Jingtang’s profile, thinking of this foolproof plan.
He had calculated that if he told Yu Jingtang, he would definitely not let him and Little Bun go alone, so he decided to act first and report later. He had prepared himself mentally before setting off in the morning. Luckily, his luck had always been good.
Yu Jingtang knew in his heart that Zou Lang did this for everyone, and for him. Because of his physical condition, it was almost impossible for him to walk there. But this action was wrong. Military orders were like mountains, and discipline was important. The most taboo thing was disobedient soldiers in teamwork, how could he tolerate such reckless behavior?
This time, they didn’t encounter a large number of zombies, it was just that Zou Lang was lucky.
Merits couldn’t offset faults, and punishment couldn’t be avoided, especially not light punishment.
Yu Jingtang put away the gun in his hand, his eyes slightly narrowed, “Zou Lang, I remember you run particularly fast, right?”
Hearing this, Zou Lang’s right eyelid twitched.
Twenty minutes later, the team set off. Everyone was in the bus, with Little Bun driving. Yu Jingtang sat in the first row of the bus, resting with his eyes closed. He tied Zou Lang to the tail of the bus with a rope.
As soon as the bus started, you could hear Zou Lang running and cursing behind.
“Yu Jingtang, you ungrateful! You turn your back and don’t recognize people! One day, I will get you! Believe it or not, I won’t let you sleep!”
The zombies in the distance were all attracted by his shouting. The students in the bus listened and whispered to each other. Little Bun drove the car, feeling helpless, and could only pretend not to hear.
Yu Jingtang picked his ear, thinking to himself: his lung capacity is really big, shouting like this, not afraid of attracting zombies. If he keeps cursing, who knows what inappropriate things he will curse out.
He opened his eyes and gave the order, “Bao Shuai, drive a little faster.”
Little Bun had no choice but to add another five miles.
Due to the emergency evacuation, apart from the occasional empty car on the side of the road, there were few roadblocks on the streets of City C.
The bus was heading towards the subway station, the road was clear, and they drove leisurely all morning. Zou Lang had been running for about ten kilometers before Yu Jingtang thought it was enough and let Little Bun stop the bus and untie the rope.
Soon, Zou Lang climbed up panting, sat next to Yu Jingtang, and was about to drink some water.
Yu Jingtang stopped him, “Wait, you just finished exercising, you can’t drink now.”
Zou Lang glanced at him, stopped talking, and buried his head between his knees while panting. He occasionally took out the chinchilla from his pocket to look at it. The chinchilla was really strange, it didn’t sleep at night and kept turning in its cage, but during the day it ran ten kilometers with him and slept like a log.
Yu Jingtang felt that the whole world was quiet, only the low undulations of the distant zombies could be heard. This kind of quietness and peace made people feel good.
Unfortunately, his happiness didn’t last long. After resting for half an hour, Zou Lang gulped down a bottle of water and instantly revived.
The bus finally stopped. Yu Jingtang rubbed his aching temples and stood up to announce, “We are now close to the subway station. This is the last rest point. Here, you can stay better, and this building has its own power supply system.”
Everyone looked up and realized that the bus had been directed by Yu Jingtang to stop under a five-star hotel, and there was a cheer. Having electricity and water meant modernization and a good life.
Yu Jingtang waved his hand to quiet the students and said to Zou Lang and Little Bun, “This building has a total of eighteen floors. We need to clean up the first and second floors, then close the main door on the first floor and the door to the upper floors on the second floor to form a closed space. If zombies attack, we can escape from the platform outside the window, which is relatively safe.”
After listening to his arrangement, Zou Lang put his arm around Little Bun’s shoulder and said, “Let’s go, let’s get to work, let’s go sweep for mines, the loser cooks the afternoon meal.”
Sweeping for mines was a game they played. Since the zombies appeared, the whole city had become a minefield. People in the city were like playing Minesweeper, unsure if the next square would have a zombie, or how many there would be. The one who could clear the most zombies by opening one room at a time was the winner.
Yu Jingtang didn’t trust them and followed them downstairs into the hotel lobby, where five or six service staff had turned into zombies. Zou Lang took the initiative to kill four of them.
Next was the first floor, mostly workspaces, most of which were empty. After the entire first floor was cleaned, Zou Lang killed six zombies, and Little Bun killed three.
The second floor was mainly hotel rooms. Zou Lang turned on the computer at the hotel service desk, made some cards, and took a bunch of room cards upstairs.
The two of them started to open the doors of the rooms one by one. Some rooms were empty, while others had people who had been bitten and had hidden inside, turning into zombies.
As they killed their way along, Zou Lang was leading all the way, almost certain to win, when they reached the end of the second floor.
Just as Zou Lang was starting to discuss what to eat for the afternoon meal with a triumphant look on his face, the chinchilla in his pocket suddenly started squeaking.
At the same time, the door of a room next to them suddenly opened on its own, and a middle-aged female zombie rushed out and pounced directly at Zou Lang. Zou Lang was caught off guard and instinctively raised his hand to block, the action was like handing his hand to the zombie’s mouth.
Little Bun was startled and wanted to help but it was too late.
Just then, the gun in Yu Jingtang’s hand fired. With a bang, the female zombie was shot in the head and fell to the ground.
Zou Lang was startled and thanked Yu Jingtang first.
Yu Jingtang gave him a glance and put away the gun in his hand.
Zou Lang patted his chest with lingering fear, “That scared me to death, luckily I have good luck.” After saying that, he checked the surroundings to make sure there were no other zombies on the second floor, and locked the passage to the third floor.
After finishing the work, Zou Lang said to Little Bun with a grin, “I won, I killed thirteen, you only killed eight.”
Little Bun looked a bit embarrassed, “Captain, you know my cooking skills…”
Yu Jingtang, who had been silent with a cold face, interrupted, “Zou Lang, you lost.”
Zou Lang obviously felt that the judgment was unfair, “Why? I killed five more!”
Yu Jingtang looked up at him, “If I hadn’t fired just now, you would be dead now, and the dead have no right to win.” After saying that, he turned and walked away, not waiting for the two behind him.
Zou Lang thought for a moment, then chased after him in a very flattering manner, “Wife, do you want to eat the food I cook? Ah, if you want to eat, just say it, I was planning to cook for you anyway.”
