Chapter 227: Play a Game
No stars, no moon, no rain, no clear skies.
Jiang Huai gazed into the distance, only able to see the pitch-black surface of the lake, with only his small pavilion in the heart of the lake lit by a bonfire.
Tonight, he was smarter; before jumping into the lake, he had removed his clothes. Once he reached the pavilion, he dried himself off before putting his clothes back on.
For some reason, he had a strange intuition that Luo Yueguan would not come tonight, or even if she did, she would not show herself. Perhaps she would watch him from a corner and then fade back into the darkness.
He had thought about not coming, which seemed like a way to get back at Luo Yueguan for her mockery, to make her feel disappointed, and perhaps to avoid any further entanglement between them, to not worry about falling deeper into her strange emotional vortex. But Jiang Huai still came.
Before trying to unravel Luo Yueguan’s thoughts, Jiang Huai felt he needed to understand himself first.
He did not crave Luo Yueguan’s love or her body, so why did he still want to do something for her?
Was it out of pity, or just to satisfy some special desire of his own?
As if saving someone would bring him satisfaction.
It seemed Luo Yueguan was suffering from pain, even if it was illusory, it filled her flesh and blood. What could he do, and what should he do?
He vaguely felt that when Luo Yueguan told him days ago that she had a heavy feeling in her chest, it was her cry for help.
But Jiang Huai’s prediction was correct; he waited for a long time, and Luo Yueguan never appeared in his line of sight. He sat quietly in the pavilion, waiting for the sky to brighten.
He took off his clothes again, jumped into the lake, and this time caught a fish.
After coming ashore, he carried the fresh fish back to the courtyard and made a pot of fish ball soup for breakfast. He didn’t call Luo Yueguan to wake up, but she was the first to open the door and walk out of the room.
“Breakfast.” Jiang Huai pointed to the fish ball soup on the table.
“Where did the fish come from?” Luo Yueguan asked knowingly.
“Mengze Lake.” Jiang Huai replied casually.
“Did you go there again last night?”
“Yes.”
“I thought you wouldn’t go.” Luo Yueguan turned her face away.
“Why?”
“Because I didn’t go the day before yesterday, and to get back at me, you definitely wouldn’t go.”
Luo Yueguan sat down at the table, scooped up a fish ball with a spoon, and found it soft, tender, and delicious.
Jiang Huai sat opposite her and thought for a moment.
“I plan to leave the day after tomorrow. I can wait for you one more night tonight if you want to talk.”
“Talk about what?” Luo Yueguan looked down at her bowl, not raising her head.
“I don’t know, it depends on what you want to talk about. If you don’t want to talk, maybe we can just sit together and enjoy the evening breeze?”
“Who do you think you are?” Luo Yueguan snorted coldly.
“Tonight… I probably won’t go either.”
“Okay, then I’ll go fishing alone.”
“You…”
Luo Yueguan suddenly lost her appetite, raised her eyes to look at Jiang Huai, but he was just earnestly tasting the fish soup with a spoon, finding it a bit bland, so he added some white pepper and then looked at Luo Yueguan.
“Do you want some pepper?”
Luo Yueguan stared at him for a long time, then suddenly picked up the bowl and drank all the fish soup and fish balls in one go, then wiped her lips with the back of her hand,
“No.”
After saying that, she stood up and left the courtyard in a hurry.
…
The grand competition in Yuelan Continent had come to an end.
Securing their spots to participate in the Eastern Region competition were naturally Jiang Huai, Wen Wanwan, and Luo Qingyu. The Yuelan Continent had three spots, and the Linglong Continent, Rimian Continent, and Aolai Continent each had three spots as well. They would have to compete at Qingmu Immortal Palace to determine the five individuals who would participate in the Five Domains Grand Competition held during the deep winter at year’s end.
Today, Jiang Huai had nothing particular to do, so he spent his time strolling around the Qingxuan Sect with Luo Qingyu and Wen Wanwan. It was the height of summer, and the female disciples of Qingxuan Sect were dressed in light, airy dresses. However, Jiang Huai dared not let his gaze wander.
He accompanied Luo Qingyu and Wen Wanwan to Butterfly Valley, where he set up an easel and began to paint butterflies. Gradually, he shifted to painting the girl in front of him. Today, Wen Wanwan was not in her usual plain white Taoist robe but in a white and purple Hanfu gown, exuding an ethereal and elegant charm.
Luo Yueguan, on the other hand, wore a black palace dress that exuded nobility without the need for any adornment. Along the way, Jiang Huai was well aware of the envious glances from the male disciples of Qingxuan Sect, but fortunately, his skin was thick as a city wall, and he had grown accustomed to it.
…
The moonlit night was serene.
Luo Yueguan sat in the pavilion at the center of the lake, dressed thinly in a light purple dress. The hem of her dress was not long, and at this moment, she sat on the steps of the pavilion, her calves submerged in the dark pool water.
In her hand, she held a handful of fish food, which she scattered into the lake, attracting many spiritual fish to swim around her. The hour was late, and Jiang Huai was nowhere to be seen.
Her eyelashes gradually lowered.
It seemed reasonable, after all. That guy had never shown much concern for her. Even the best of tempers would be worn thin, and it was only fitting for him to leave her hanging tonight in a huff. It was her own fault, and she couldn’t blame anyone else.
The lake water was slightly cold, and she suddenly felt the urge to submerge herself in the lake for a soak. Just as she began to step down into the lake, there was a disturbance on the water’s surface. Jiang Huai swam over and looked into her eyes.
“What are you doing?”
“You… I just got here,” Luo Yueguan turned her face away, her voice tinged with a hint of petulance.
“Tomorrow, Wanwan will return to the Tianxuan Sect with the sect master. I need to visit the Ziyun headquarters. Oh, and Qingyu will also go to the Tianxuan Sect to spend some time, so…”
“So what?”
“So I got tied up with the two sisters tonight. It took a long time to get them to sleep, so I’m a bit late,” Jiang Huai explained as he looked at Luo Yueguan, half-submerged in the water.
“So what are you doing?”
“Can’t I take a soak?”
“Suit yourself,” Jiang Huai shrugged innocently, watching her eyes.
Luo Yueguan stepped further into the lake, her dress soaked and clinging to her body. She swam up to Jiang Huai and suddenly said,
“Will you come with me to the bottom of the lake?”
Before Jiang Huai could grasp her intention, Luo Yueguan pulled him into the lake. He didn’t particularly enjoy the sensation of drowning, which reminded him of near-death experiences from his past life. Fortunately, Luo Yueguan let go of his hand and swam ahead on her own. Jiang Huai followed her to a shallower area where Luo Yueguan stood up in the water, the ripples spreading across her chest.
“So, what can you talk to me about?” Luo Yueguan’s lips moved slightly, but Jiang Huai could only scratch his head.
“I don’t know.”
“Useless,” Luo Yueguan glanced at him disdainfully.
Jiang Huai didn’t argue but instead reached out his hand. Luo Yueguan hesitated for a moment before giving him her arm, and he pulled her back to the pavilion.
Standing in the pavilion, Luo Yueguan’s body was completely drenched, her light dress now transparent and clinging to her figure, revealing her exquisite curves. Her fair skin shimmered in the moonlight, partially visible.
Her figure was particularly striking, with full, soft curves at her chest and a slender waist leading down to her plump, peach-like buttocks. Jiang Huai realized that Luo Yueguan was not wearing undergarments beneath her dress; her moon-like buttocks were now wet, and water droplets dripped down her dress. Jiang Huai was momentarily stunned, but Luo Yueguan had already untied her sash.
She easily slipped off her dress, letting it hang from her fingertips before falling to the ground. Moonlight bathed her body, and the water droplets glistened like liquid silver. Jiang Huai hurriedly closed his eyes, a reflex, but after a few seconds, he slowly opened them again.
Luo Yueguan simply stood before him, her eyes smiling.
“Why did you close your eyes?”
“You suddenly went mad. How could I not close my eyes?”
“And why did you open them?”
“I suddenly felt like I was getting used to it. Hurry up and dry off the water vapor and put on your clothes,” Jiang Huai looked away, but Luo Yueguan approached him, nearly bumping into his chest.
“You dry me.”
Jiang Huai, displeased, reached out and gave her bottom a firm smack, but still took out a towel and began to wipe the water droplets from her body. He admitted to having instinctual desires, but what caught his attention more than her body were her eyes, misty like the night, inscrutable.
But Luo Yueguan’s body was indeed exceptionally soft, and even through the towel, Jiang Huai could almost sense it. He quickly dried her off, avoiding her chest and crevices, of course. Luo Yueguan casually draped on a light purple gauze robe, tied the sash simply, and leaned back on the bench in the pavilion, even lazily lifting her leg and resting her ankle on the table, her long, creamy legs dangling. If Jiang Huai were to sit opposite her, he might see something he shouldn’t.
Luo Yueguan’s skin was as smooth and white as Qingyu’s, tender and flawless, even their shapes seemed so similar.
It was then that Jiang Huai took the towel to dry himself off and changed into a fresh set of clothes. He sat opposite Luo Yueguan, looking into her languid eyes, feeling as though he should say something but not knowing how to begin.
So the two of them sat in the darkness, gazing at each other, for a minute, maybe two, until Jiang Huai cautiously asked,
“How do you feel now?”
“Very happy.”
“That’s good,” Jiang Huai breathed a sigh of relief.
“If you were willing to kneel down now and kiss me like you kissed Qingyu, I would probably be even happier.”
She said this without a hint of blushing, but Jiang Huai wore a contemplative expression.
There must be a reason for her madness.
What could it be now?
Because she didn’t know what to do, because her mind was blank?
Because she wanted some thrill to feel at peace?
“No,” Jiang Huai shook his head in refusal.
Luo Yueguan pouted, as if she had expected his response, her feelings unclear between disappointment and peace. But Jiang Huai pointed to a pillar in the pavilion and looked at her.
“Go there, and then lean against the pillar.”
“What for?”
Luo Yueguan was initially startled, then her cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and annoyance.
It seemed to be always like this; she could tease Jiang Huai, but he couldn’t tease her. Yet Jiang Huai only looked at her innocently and tenderly.
“Let’s play a game. If you win, I’ll agree to what you just asked for. Whoever cheats is a dog.”
