- Chapter 1 - Welcome to the Polluted Apocalypse
Chapter 1
It was twelve o’clock in the morning.
The only sounds in the deserted streets were the sounds of the nearby wild cats.
After Wen Bei counted the last batch of goods, he checked them carefully once again before closing the store and leaving.
Working overtime until it was past midnight hours was a common occurrence for him.
Dragging his slightly tired body, he rushed home.
He deliberately rented a house nearby. Even though the infrastructure facilities were inconvenient, he could at least save money on the taxi.
An accident happened at such a moment.
An out-of-control car sped past him.
While Wen Bei’s eyes widened as he fell heavily to the ground as a response to the huge impact.
The first thing he felt was shock, and then slowly the pain caught up later.
At that moment of impact, there was a clear sound of bones breaking, and a clear and strong discomfort after taking the impact to the internal organs.
Wen Bei calmly thought that he was probably dying.
The fast car immediately stopped after realising that it had hit someone. The tired driver inside was so frightened that he rushed out of his car and knelt on the ground next to Wen Bei: “Little brother, are you okay?!”
Wen Bei glanced at him sideways.
He used all his strength to take out his phone from his pocket. His bloody fingers trembled and he failed several times in his attempts of sliding the screen to unlock his phone.
The driver was in tears: “Do you want to call the emergency number? I’ll help you with that. Don’t worry, I promise I won’t run away.”
Wen Bei could only control his head to shake slightly.
The driver was trembling even more than he was: “Then, do you want to call the police?”
Wen Bei still shook his head. He finally unlocked the phone and looked for the software with strong will.
Driver: “I know, you must want to format the phone!”
Wen Bei didn’t respond. He finally opened what he wanted to see the most— his deposit balance.
The number visible on the screen was nearly six zeroes away from his first-stage goal. The tragic part was that he could’ve easily achieved his goal by just earning a few more months of salary.
No matter how much he was unwilling to give in, the anger that was hanging on him still dissipated.
Before Wen Bei finally closed his eyes, he stubbornly closed the banking software with his middle finger.
…
”Wake up!”
A noisy voice continued to linger in his ears, forcing Wen Bei to finally open his eyes in annoyance.
What came into his view was a fluffy rabbit face.
”…”
He was definitely still dreaming.
Wen Bei chose to continue closing his eyes.
The rabbit stamped his feet on him in dissatisfaction.
Wen Bei opened his eyes once again, this time in pain, but he was able to see more clearly than the previous time. He realised that the rabbit could not only speak human words, but it was also wearing a pink suit vest and holding a cane with a rose shape on the top.
The rabbit was very satisfied with Wen Bei’s attention on him: “Hello, I am the rabbit butler.”
Wen Bei did not answer it, but looked down at his clothes.
He was still wearing the orange work uniform of Haiou Supermarket. It was not ugly, it just didn’t look good.
The rabbit butler was curious: “What are you looking at?”
Wen Bei said faintly: “I’m checking if I’m wearing a little blue and white skirt and turned into Alice.”
Rabbit Butler: “…You are dead.”
Wen Bei was not surprised by the bombshell dropped on him.
The extremely calm attitude aroused the curiosity of the rabbit butler. It smiled like a villain: “You must have had a terrible obsession before your death which was why you were summoned here. As long as you are willing to sign a contract with the Hotel, you will still have the chance to fulfil your destiny, that is, your obsession.”
Wen Bei was unmoved.
The Rabbit Butler was sure about his theory because, at that time, the obsession he felt was too deep.
Facing such a hard-lipped human, the rabbit was aware that only threats were most effective against such humans.
Rabbit Butler: “Haha, let me see what your obsession is.”
What could it be? A person who couldn’t love another? Or relatives he was unwilling to part with? Or, was it, in fact, an unfinished dream?
All the Rabbit Butler had to do was just grasp the weak points…
Thus, he replayed the scene of Wen Bei’s death.
Deathly silence spread all over after the replay.
Wen Bei blinked: “What’s wrong?”
Butler Rabbit didn’t expect that Wen Bei’s last obsession would be money.
And this is what is irreversible.
After all, Wen Bei had been declared dead in his original world. Even if he was given another life, the money he had worked so hard to save would still not return.
The Rabbit Butler looked at the human in front of him who had lost his desire to live and hesitated to speak.
The next second, he immediately changed his attitude. He stretched out his furry paws and hugged his thigh, crying: “Master! Please sign a contract with the Hotel. The Hotel has been abandoned for hundreds of years with no one to take care of it!!”
He no longer looked arrogant and domineering at all.
Wen Bei: “Haha.”
Seeing that he was unmoved, Butler Rabbit tried his best to promote himself and the suspicious-sounding parallel world hotel.
He talked a lot, and finally when it was tired, he drooped its ears: “If you have any questions, you can ask me.”
Wen Bei showed the attitude of an old social worker, and a pair of beautiful cat eyes appeared critical: “If I sign a contract with the Hotel, will food and accommodation be included? Will there be five insurances and a housing fund available? By the way, what is the basic salary?”
Rabbit Butler: “…”
Why was he focusing on that and not the other stuff?
After being speechless for a while, the Butler spoke without any hope: “As long as you sign the contract, you are the boss. You don’t have to worry about all this.”
Wen Bei’s eyes lit up: “I’ll sign it!”
…
The Rabbit Butler didn’t expect that he would actually manage to snag the new owner of the Hotel with just one sentence after going to great lengths to kidnap, oh no, persuade him..
But after being teleported to the Hotel, this human being remained silent.
The Rabbit Butler’s eyes were scarlet and he grinned strangely: “Welcome to the Polluted Apocalypse.”
But its words did not intimidate the new owner in the slightest.
Wen Bei frowned little by little as he looked at the extremely dilapidated building in front of him, with the garden full of weeds.
He never thought that he would be deceived one day in such a way.
Being his own boss meant that… no one would pay him a salary.
And one could tell from a single glance that the Hotel in question was not going to make any money.
Wen Bei turned his head and looked outside the Hotel. He saw a cluster of terrifying vines, blocking almost all vision. Strange creatures were everywhere, indicating that he was no longer in his original world, but had arrived at the place that the Rabbit had just mentioned— A Polluted Apocalypse.
