- Chapter 14 - Extreme Bad Luck
Purple mushrooms larger than human heads were everywhere.
It turned out that they had accidentally entered the world of mushrooms.
Ji Mingyuan reminded him: “Be careful not to open the car windows. Inhaling the spores of some of these mushrooms will increase the pollution level.”
The team he had once led had also accidentally entered the territory of poisonous mushrooms.
One of the team members was poor at holding his breath, so he secretly took a few more breaths. Unexpectedly, it happened to be the time when the mushrooms reproduced. By the time the abnormality was discovered, his pollution level had risen to 100, turning him into an irrational filth.
Ji Mingyuan had to kill him with his own hands.
After killing him and peeling apart his body, he discovered that his internal organs were filled with hyphae. It wasn’t just that, even the blood flowing in his blood vessels was no longer blood, but white wriggling hyphae.
Wen Bei nodded to indicate that he had understood.
Ji Mingyuan stepped on the accelerator and immediately increased his speed, rushing out of the mushroom field.
Since he was driving too fast, he didn’t notice the direction of the nearby filth.
Sometimes one could judge whether there was a high-level pollutant nearby based on the distribution of the pollutants around them. The lesser the pollutants, the more the chances of encountering a high-level pollutant.
As soon as they left the mushroom field, they found that the surroundings had suddenly become quiet.
There was neither the cry of the phoenix nor the sound of the wind blowing through the plants.
Wen Bei looked around vigilantly, but the expected terrifying and ferocious filth that he imagined did not appear.
Even the black eagle which was circling in the sky nearby saw nothing.
Could it be that the high-level filth had just left its territory to hunt for food?
This thought flashed through his mind, and Wen Bei suddenly saw four footprints on the ground outside the window on the right.
He tightened his pupils and shouted loudly: “Hide!”
The two men lowered their heads simultaneously without any hesitation. A sharp sound broke through the air, and a purple tongue stretched out and penetrated the car window. After it didn’t stick to anything, it quickly retracted.
Glass shards hit Ji Mingyuan.
He had developed lingering fears.
If he hadn’t been reminded just now, it would have been not only the car window that was penetrated, but also his head.
”What was that?” Ji Mingyuan looked wary, but when he looked in the direction of the attack just now, there was nothing there.
Wen Bei reminded him: “Look at the footprints on the ground.”
The area where they had happened to have arrived coincidentally had yellow sand on the ground, which revealed the invisible traces of pollutants.
Ji Mingyuan looked serious: “It’s invisible?”
No wonder his Black Eagle didn’t notice it either.
The two of them stayed in the car cautiously, but the filth outside was unwilling to let them do so.
The creature opened its mouth and spit out a large ball of tongue again. The moment when the mouth was opened to its maximum capacity, it’s entire head seemed to have been split into two, revealing a scarlet lining and pale fangs.
This time they were prepared in advance. Even though they couldn’t see the movements or objects clearly, they could still judge the direction by the sound.
Black Eagle flew down and stood in front of them to block the attack.
The sharp flight feathers cut off a section of the tongue.
The lizard filth shrank back in pain, then rolled up a bicycle from the roadside with its tail and smashed it to the ground.
After the tongue was separated from the body, it showed its original appearance and fell on the ground covered with dirt.
Even under their gaze, it squirmed like a living thing, like a long worm.
The lizard let out an ugly scream.
Wen Bei looked at the tongue and made a judgement: “It looks like a chameleon.”
Ji Mingyuan reacted quickly: “So it relied on visual illusion to hide itself. So it’s not entirely invisible.”
Wen Bei nodded.
The chameleon that had been converted to filth was obviously difficult to deal with. It could control every detail of its body to be exactly the same colour as the surrounding environment, and to its advantage, its body could appear in dozens of colours at the same time.
It was constantly changing its appearance when walking close to the building, which made it appear invisible to the naked eye.
Now, the lizard had been injured, and its most powerful weapon was still twisting itself on the ground. It instinctively retreated deeper, making no sound when its fleshy toes stepped on the ground.
It hung directly from the ceiling of a clothing store with its eyes which were as big as basketballs staring intently at the two humans who were still trying to find it.
Just when it was about to completely escape the sight of the two people, its scaly body was suddenly stabbed, and the lizard screamed in pain again.
It was shrill and unpleasant, resembling a dying rat, but the decibels were much higher.
Wen Bei looked in the direction of the scream in astonishment. He didn’t notice it at all when the deformed filth walked around and entered the store.
But now was not the time to dwell on this issue.
The question was simple yet frustrating—What on earth was in that stand which made the chameleon scream even more horribly than when its tongue was severed?
Ji Mingyuan’s Black Eagle returned to him and let out an uneasy roar.
This was the first time it had made such a sound.
At the same time, several green figures walked out of the clothing store.
One of them in the front was tightly holding on to the tail of the filthy lizard in its hand. The creature walked over like it was dragging a big bag of garbage while muttering something at the same time.
When they got closer, Wen Bei could clearly hear the words they were mumbling.
”Fish, fish, fish…”
When the filthy creatures saw the two of them, they all grinned, leaving foul-smelling saliva from between their teeth and lips.
”Fish! What a big fish!”
In their eyes, the two humans were just two big nutritious fish.
Ji Mingyuan’s expression changed: “It’s the Fishermen.”
Wen Bei was speechless for a moment.
What kind of luck did he have? When he had finally dared to step out of the Hotel, he ended up bumping into an entire group of Class A filth!
Ji Mingyuan: “I can’t kill so many Class As.”
He could deal with one Class A filth. But it wasn’t possible to deal with multiple Class A filth at the same time.
One Class A was already more than enough to destroy a safe zone, let alone so many.
Wen Bei took a quick glance and saw five identical fishermen.
Their appearance was nothing like the humans they had evolved from. Their eyes were protruding out like those of goldfish and they had also positioned themselves to the sides due to mutation. The bridge of their noses were almost non-existent, directly extending forward like fish faces, leaving two decorative holes on their faces. Because of the small holes, the position of the ears had become closer to the neck, and degenerated into gill-like existences, which continued to close and close between breaths.
The fisherman’s body was all green, and there were many pimples, especially on its back. Some of the pimples were as big as an adult’s fist, and there was even faint pus flowing out of them.
The hands had no trace of their original human appearance, and were swollen as if the corpse had been soaked in water for many days.
They were still calling them fish as they approached closer.
Ji Mingyuan’s Black Eagle stood on his shoulder, its feathers exploding, as if it was ready to rush up and fight them to the death at any time.
Wen Bei suddenly stopped him and shook his head cryptically.
He motioned to Ji Mingyuan to look at the chameleon that was also caught as a fish.
Although it was dying, it was still breathing, and its eyes were shaking crazily.
It proved that the Fishermen did not want to kill the ‘fish’ immediately after catching it, but had other plans.
It seemed that they wanted to take them somewhere. At the moment, since they wanted to save their lives, they could only pretend to obey.
Ji Mingyuan clenched and unclenched his fists.
He had seen Wen Bei gamble with his life earlier, but this time he still chose to believe him.
The corner of Wen Bei’s mouth curled up and he said silently: “Good employee.”
For a good employee like him who believed in his boss, he must give him a raise if he had the chance.
Although he still couldn’t pay wages yet.
The result was exactly as he expected. The Fishermen looked at the two fish that were so stupid that they didn’t know how to escape. They just grabbed them roughly and did not directly reach out and break their necks.
Wen Bei was caught by one of the Fishermen, and a fishy smell penetrated his nostrils, almost making him vomit.
He was unable to move his arms because he felt as if they were imprisoned by iron pliers. The pain kept coming, and his eyelashes that were curled up in pain were trembling slightly. His face was slightly pale, and he looked particularly protective.
But Fishermen didn’t show mercy to anyone.
Wen Bei bit his lips tightly, biting his beautiful smiling lips until they turned white, and then he suppressed a groan of pain.
The ‘obedience’of the fish satisfied the Fishermen.
The lizard on the other side was not so lucky. It was dragged by its tail, and some sharp stones on the floor stung it so much that it kept twisting its body to try to get down. It was seriously injured. So bad that it couldn’t even change the colour of its body and become invisible.
As long as it struggled, a Fisherman would come close and beat it up.
With one punch, even the scales, which were harder than solid iron, were broken a little. After a few more punches, the scales fell off, revealing the pink inner flesh, and the strange blue blood flowed all the way.
It wasn’t until they were brought to the territory of the fishermen that Wenbei knew why they didn’t eat them directly. The Fishermen were actually a group of filth with different social hierarchies!
A Fisherman which was twice as big as all the other fishermen was lying lazily in a large open space that had been specially cleared.
It looked like a big pile of rotten meat. They couldn’t see the head, only the huge body.
Surrounding him were the bones of food.
In addition to a pile of filthy bones, there were actually several human bones that had been eaten clean. The skulls with dark heads looked at them blankly.
It hinted at their approaching ill fate.
Apparently the Fish King had eaten a lot.
The horrid smell was too unbearable. It smelled as pungent as if they’d been thrown into a pile of dead fish.
When Wen Bei and the others arrived, two other fishermen also happened to face caught ‘fish’ and came over to offer them as offerings.
