- Chapter 1 - I Became the Villainess’ Big Brother
An angel showed up at our house.
You might not get what I’m saying, but honestly, I don’t really know what’s going on either.
My dad came home with this cute little girl who looked just like an angel.
“Sold, from today this kid is your little sister. Take good care of her!”
She’s about six years old, I guess—since I’m seven, that makes her a year younger.
Even though she’s technically part of the noble Ranger family (albeit from a low-ranking baron branch), she looks like she just threw on some tattered cloth and is covered in mud—it’s pretty rough on the eyes.
Her silver hair is all dry and lifeless, and her murky jade eyes don’t even look at me.
But still… the moment I saw her, there was something about her that completely grabbed my soul.
Then, out of nowhere, it felt like someone had hit my brain with a hammer—memories of living in an entirely different world came crashing back.
I remembered a concrete jungle filled with endless streets of steel cars and skyscrapers lit up so brightly they erased the darkness of night.
All those memories flashed back in an instant… and then I clearly recalled the little girl standing right in front of me.
This kid… is the villainess from that otome game I played in my past life!?
“Her name is Tilti. Now, go say hi to her.”
Tilti. Yep, Tilti Majester.
She’s the daughter of the Majester Duke, and back in the game, she was that mean girl who relentlessly bullied the heroine—who’d somehow gotten into a prestigious academy for nobles, even though she was just a commoner. Tilti was seriously nasty.
Every time the heroine got closer to her love interests, Tilti’s bullying ramped up, even to the point of triggering assassination attempts.
No surprise there—her fate was doomed to execution, and in the end, no one even cared about her miserable, lonely death.
At first, I thought, “A mean girl like her totally deserves to die,” but then the game’s twist hit me.
You could only see her backstory after you beat the game—and that’s when everything about her tragic life was laid bare.
Sure, she had duke blood in her veins, but since she was the duke’s mistress’s kid, her dad abandoned her and her mom when she was little.
She lost her mom right before her eyes to bandits and almost got sold off into slavery herself.
Then some minor noble rescued her and treated her like family—but that guy got attacked by bandits trying to take Tilti back, and his whole family got wiped out.
After losing both her mom and her new family, the only one who took Tilti in was the Majester Duke family—the same people who’d ignored her until then. And just because they took her in, she ended up being treated worse than a servant.
Under those circumstances, it’s no wonder her personality got all twisted. When I learned the whole story, I seriously wanted to smack my old self for casually calling her a “shitty woman.”
…Anyway, I’m getting off track.
In short, if nothing changes, this girl is doomed to a tragic downfall.
And to make matters worse… I’m just a minor noble who, a few years from now, is going to get attacked by slave-dealing bandits who target her—and my whole family will be killed along with me.
“Sold, what’s wrong?”
“Uh… oh, yeah, sorry, Dad. I just got totally startled by all this.”
Thinking about our safety—mine and the family’s—I figured we really shouldn’t be taking her in. I should somehow tell Dad that she’s actually from the Majester family so we can properly take her in.
But… is that really the right thing to do?
The Majester folks aren’t exactly known for welcoming her with open arms.
Is it right to send a kid, who we all know is bound to be abused, back to that kind of home just for the sake of our own safety?
Even in the game, that was her fate—being thrown into a harsh environment at just five years old right after losing her mom… things could only get worse.
And more than anything, I ended up wanting to help her.
“Tilti, huh? My name’s Sold. Sold Ranger.”
“…eh”
Driven by those feelings, I gently wrapped my arms around Tilti’s tiny body.
In a rough, husky voice—as she mumbled confused words—I patted her back to try and make her feel a bit better.
“I’m super happy to have a cute little sister like you. Let’s get along from today, Tilti.”
“…………”
She didn’t say anything back. She just looked up at me with a puzzled expression—no resistance, no sign of joy—just letting me hold her like a doll.
But that’s okay. It’s my own selfish decision. I don’t know if Tilti will ever open up to me, but even if she doesn’t, I’ll do everything I can to help her get back on her feet at her own pace.
And… I swear I’ll make sure her heart never gets hurt again.
I’m gonna become stronger than anyone else and change this kid’s fate!!
