I asked the knights to protect us, and I stepped forward. At almost the same time, a deep crimson flame lit up inside the Black Dragon’s mouth. Its fire breath, which can burn a large area at once, was about to be unleashed. Instead of retreating, I stepped forward boldly.

As the heat of the flames scorched my hair above me, I rolled toward the Black Dragon’s feet and slashed its weak belly. The dragon’s fire breath sometimes comes from high above, leaving its belly a safe zone. This gave me a rare chance to strike its vulnerable spot without holding back. For a moment, everything went as planned. I confirmed that my blade could cut through its weak area, and then I quickly retreated.

Just after I backed away, the Black Dragon spun its massive tail—much larger than a log—to sweep the area. The sheer force of the wind from its tail nearly blew me away. I then charged again when the dragon turned its back, and I delivered another strike to its belly.

Even though it was a weak spot, my strikes did not easily split it in two. However, there was no doubt that my attack had an effect. Now, all that remained was to repeat this process over and over.

After that, the Black Dragon continued to attack. It used its front claws to scratch at us—attacks meant to slip under our arms for a counterattack. It also fired rapid, small bursts of fire breath. While I had to dodge these at full speed, I noticed that after each burst there was a big opening that I could exploit. It even jumped into the air and slammed down with its whole body. The first time I saw that, I could only run away at full speed to dodge it.

So far, I have managed to dodge every attack as in the game. Even though my sword technique does not have the same power as a magic spell, I have been able to land many quick strikes with few openings. Still, the constant loss of energy is a big problem. Dodging attacks that could kill me in one hit is very tiring, and honestly, I am near my limit.

I knew that if I left the Black Dragon alive, it would eventually harm people. That flaming slash cut through the Black Dragon’s belly as if it had been impossible before, splitting its body in two. With a deathly roar, the massive black dragon split into two and collapsed behind me, and its remains were completely burned away by the flames.

I watched it all, then slowly sheathed my sword. Thus, my first dungeon conquest came to an end.
