Can a System Have Bad Intentions? - Chapter 135
After wandering around the street three times, Qin Mo finally made his way to the Laifu Inn as darkness fell.
Du Zhongming had said the little fool cried pitifully, and he wondered how she was doing now.
In the guest room.
Lu Tang had cried for more than an hour during the day. Although the worst had passed, her eyelids still felt tight. She placed a cool cloth over her eyes, leaned back in a chair with her legs propped on the table in front of her, and rocked back and forth on the chair’s back legs.
Xie Yu sat at another table with a set of questions in front of him.
“Finish these questions within half an hour, and if all are correct, I’ll lend you more books. If you get many wrong, no books for you.”
Xie Yu glanced at the questions, feeling confident, and said to Lu Tang, “Brother Tang, does this mean I’ll be following you from now on?”
Lu Tang rolled her eyes, “What do you mean by following me? Follow me for what? I have Yuan Bao already. Once this case is solved, you should go back and enroll in an academy to prepare for the imperial exams. When you become an official, remember to look after our inn.”
Xie Yu wanted to say more, but Lu Tang interrupted him, “Get to work on the questions.”
Xie Yu glanced at Lu Tang, said nothing more, and began to write. After answering a few questions, he couldn’t help but say, “Brother Tang, are you still thinking about Young Master Qin?”
Lu Tang ignored him.
“I miss Young Master Qin too.” Xie Yu kept writing, mumbling, “It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t asked those questions, you two wouldn’t have argued, and he wouldn’t have run away.”
Lu Tang rolled her eyes. Who said he ran away from home?
“He didn’t run away. He went to solve your case, don’t overthink it.” Despite feeling hurt, Lu Tang patiently comforted Xie Yu.
Xie Yu, who grew up in a different environment, was sensitive and fragile, always blaming himself for everything, as if bad weather tomorrow would be his fault.
“Don’t think too much. Young Master Qin and I are fine.”
Xie Yu looked at Lu Tang sadly, “I’m not stupid. If you two were fine, why were you crying today?”
“I was touched, alright? He must know this case is dangerous and doesn’t want me to get hurt, so he did all this to protect me. Once the case is solved, he’ll come to find me. You’re such a fool, worrying about things you don’t understand. Now, get back to your questions.”
Xie Yu didn’t believe a word, feeling miserable, but since Lu Tang clearly didn’t want to talk about it, he didn’t press further. If he annoyed her, he might lose a friend.
Even Xu Shen and the others didn’t ask.
Hearing Xie Yu’s pen scratching on the paper, Lu Tang felt a little relieved.
She was really afraid this fool would keep asking. If he did, she would run out of things to make up.
Qin Mo, you bastard!
Just thinking of Qin Mo made Lu Tang want to cry again.
How could a man over six feet tall still play the “running away from home” card!
Outside, eavesdropping, Qin Mo stood stunned for a moment before turning and striding away.
Huang Yunsheng!
If I don’t take you down within two days, my name isn’t Qin.
Xie Yu’s knowledge of water management was solid. Out of twenty questions, he finished them all in just over fifteen minutes.
After chasing Xie Yu out of the room, Lu Tang called the system.
She tossed the cloth from her eyes onto the table, locked the door from the inside, and flopped onto the bed, hugging the blanket and waiting for the system to grade the test.
“Congratulations, dear host. You got everything correct again. You’re amazing! Keep it up!”
Since discovering that this thing wasn’t up to any good, Lu Tang always took its words with a grain of salt.
“What about my reward?”
“Task reward is being generated. Please be patient.”
“What about my points?”
The system fell silent.
Lu Tang snorted, “Playing dead? Where are my points? Show me my points screen.”
Though the system said nothing, after about a minute, a screen appeared in front of Lu Tang.
The screen showed a nine-square grid, with the first two squares lit up in bright yellow, indicating that those cards were usable.
Lu Tang perked up and reached out to tap one of the slots.
A message popped up: “Please use points to redeem the card. Once redeemed, it cannot be returned or exchanged. Please decide carefully before redeeming.”
Lu Tang glanced at the points displayed at the top: 28.
“Completing one test gives 28 points?”
“The points are based on the difficulty of the task. Today’s test was relatively simple, so the points are fewer.”
“How many points for the hardest?”
“For the most difficult test, achieving 80% accuracy earns 13,290 points.”
“That many?”
“The questions are very hard.”
“How hard?”
The system displayed a sample question.
“Repair the flaws in the Liyang Dam project and draw a complete engineering diagram.”
Lu Tang: Damn!
Stunned for a moment, Lu Tang scratched her chin. After all, it wasn’t her who had to do it, so why not give it a shot if the chance came?
“When can I get this question?”
“According to the seven-day assessment standard, it should appear next March.”
“Why not say until the end of the world?” Lu Tang rolled her eyes. “What if I want it sooner?”
“It can’t be done early. You must complete the previous tasks first.”
“Isn’t there any special skill to reorder the exams?”
“No, rules cannot be broken.”
Lu Tang thought, as a system, haven’t you already broken enough rules in secret?
But she couldn’t be bothered to argue and, seeing her 28 points, figured she might as well use them and have some fun. She casually tapped one of the slots.
The chosen card flashed briefly before a confirmation box appeared: “Please confirm redemption.”
Lu Tang clicked confirm.
As her points reset to zero, the card flipped over, revealing the words: “Exam Subject Reordering Card.”
System: !
Lu Tang smiled, “You said it didn’t exist?”
System: …
Lu Tang cursed the system silently and reached out to activate the card. Just as her finger was about to touch it, the system trembled and said, “Host, how do you want to reorder?”
“What do you think?”
“No way!”
For the first time, Lu Tang heard panic and urgency in the system’s voice.
“Why not?”
“This task is too difficult. If you can’t complete it, you’ll have to deduct the equivalent points. You have zero points now, so there’s nothing to deduct.”
Lu Tang smirked, “If I have nothing to deduct, how can I select it? Is the system malfunctioning? I don’t think so. If I can select it, it means points can be deducted. If I don’t have points…”
Lu Tang drew out the last word.
“Then deduct yours.”
