Chapter 23: The First Cut of the Original Story
Yun Jin was the beginner guide in the original Fallen Immortal story.
She wasn’t a major character and didn’t have much screen time in Fallen Immortal.
But when He Yimo first played Fallen Immortal in his past life, Yun Jin was the first female character he met and the only senior sister in the sect who warmly cared for him. She guided He Yimo through the entire game’s introductory phase, teaching him cultivation.
However, at the end of the first volume of the main storyline, Yun Jin was killed by the villainous senior brother Gu Wanglan, who stabbed her through the chest with a sword.
He Yimo naturally wanted to save her, but it was just a cutscene in the game. All he could do was sit in front of his computer, watching helplessly as Yun Jin was struck down in her final moment running towards him.
That scene had truly cut deep into He Yimo’s heart as he watched from behind the screen.
So now, encountering Yun Jin again as a new disciple stirred something within He Yimo.
“Thank you, Senior Sister Yun Jin. I’m feeling much better now.”
He Yimo bowed deeply, showing unprecedented respect to the green-clad girl before him.
For a moment, Yun Jin was taken aback by his gesture, and even Mo Yuyan glanced back in surprise.
Why did it seem like He Yimo’s respect for Yun Jin upon their first meeting was more genuine than when he met her?
“Oh my~ It was nothing, Junior Brother! You’re being too serious!”
The green-clad girl quickly stepped forward to help He Yimo up.
Yun Jin was of average height, wearing a simple green dress and Taoist robe. Her light-colored hair was styled into two buns. Though she didn’t stand out like Mo Yuyan or Jiang Jinyue, she had a traditional, understated beauty typical of ancient-style maidens.
After all, as a beginner guide, she wasn’t meant to be breathtakingly beautiful.
“Is this your first time at the main hall, Junior Brother Yimo?”
“Senior Sister Mo has already briefed me on your situation. So next, let Yun Jin show you around Wuji Sect’s various facilities!”
Just like in the game’s storyline from his past life, Yun Jin warmly recited her welcome lines.
He Yimo listened quietly but noticed a black-clad boy standing outside the main hall, looking around curiously.
Suddenly, he remembered that according to the original story, today was also supposed to be the protagonist’s first meeting with the beginner guide…
“Senior Sister Yun Jin, actually on our way here, Senior Sister Mo already introduced me to the main hall’s functions.”
“I’m more curious about Wuji Sect’s other areas. Could Senior Sister Yun Jin take me to see the back mountain?”
He Yimo naturally shifted the topic.
Yun Jin wasn’t particularly shrewd. Hearing his request, she nodded enthusiastically:
“Sure! Let’s take Junior Brother Yimo for a tour of Wuji Sect’s back mountain first!”
“After you, Senior Sister.”
The two chatted and laughed as they passed by the black-clad boy outside the hall.
……
……
……
“That’s strange. Senior Brother Gu said I could find a Senior Sister named Yun Jin at the main hall to learn about Wuji Sect.”
“But I’ve asked everyone here, and it seems no one knows anyone named Yun Jin.”
Inside the main hall, Chen Jianxin stood alone in a corner, scratching his head as he watched cultivators come and go with uncertainty.
He looked left and right before sighing and heading towards a sign pointing to the Sword Arena.
……
……
……
“Junior Brother Yimo, you’re… you’re amazing!”
Walking along a forest path in the back mountain, Yun Jin clasped her hands behind her back, gazing at He Yimo with admiration.
In just an hour and a half, she’d been completely won over by He Yimo.
Over the years, Yun Jin had worked part-time as a guide during every entrance exam to earn sect merit points.
And each time, new disciples would follow her around wide-eyed with wonder at everything they saw—except for He Yimo, who seemed entirely at home wherever they went.
But that wasn’t even the most astonishing part.
The most astonishing part was when Yun Jin took He Yimo to the Pill Pavilion and Blacksmith Shop. To her shock, He Yimo boldly haggled with the senior brothers selling goods!
Yun Jin initially wanted to caution him against making unreasonable demands on fellow disciples. But what shattered her worldview even more was when those senior brothers actually lost their verbal sparring match with He Yimo and courteously sold him large quantities of pills at half price without any trouble!
Yun Jin had been left dumbfounded.
She’d been at Wuji Sect for over two years but never knew you could haggle at the Pill Pavilion until following He Yimo today!
Was she really the only fool who’d been buying overpriced pills for over two years???
Later on, seeing Yun Jin’s crestfallen expression, He Yimo even slipped those Pill Pavilion senior brothers dozens of spirit stones—asking them to offer discounts in future transactions and not overcharge Senior Sister Yun Jin anymore.
Those senior brothers chuckled sheepishly while skillfully pocketing the spirit stones before handing Yun Jin a card—saying it would grant her 30% off at future visits to the Pill Pavilion or half-price for bulk purchases.
Yun Jin: ???
She’d been left full of questions but still carefully accepted that card.
From then on, guiding duties shifted entirely from Yun Jin to He Yimo.
Because he didn’t seem like some newbie junior brother; rather more like an old hand who’s been around Wuji Sect for years!
He explained that these pills had low production costs with various subsidies from both sects and alliances. Even selling them at half price still yielded profits—marking up prices was merely to inflate market procurement rates for elders’ accounting purposes—a tacitly approved practice within sects.
He spoke casually but left Yun Jin utterly astonished.
She wanted to argue that righteous sects wouldn’t engage in such shady practices—but He Yimo had genuinely secured discounts for her at Pill Pavilion; having this card would save Yun Jin significant money!
With nothing else to say—she could only gratefully accept his goodwill.
“Don’t feel too bad about it. If you’ve ever visited markets outside Wuji Sect—you’d know how much official prices are inflated.”
He waved dismissively while explaining naturally.
Yun Jin paused mid-step—her eyes filled with curiosity:
“What do you mean by markets outside official ones?”
“Commonly known as black markets—places where rogue cultivators from various races freely trade. Of course—the textbooks from righteous sects won’t tell you there’s another market beyond alliances.”
He glanced back at her before finding somewhere to sit down—casually pulling out a pill: “Take this Soul Returning Pill for example—it lacks any official markings yet costs only one-tenth of what Pill Pavilion charges—but do you believe its effects are identical?”
“You’re an alchemist—you should have some understanding of pills.”
With that said—he smiled lightly—handing over that pill to Yun Jin.
Over these years—due to playing his role as a playboy—he hadn’t shared these reincarnator insights with anyone—but made an exception for Yun Jin.
Simply put—he felt sympathy for her plight…
Yun Jin had always worked diligently for Wuji Sect—performing good deeds daily—but not only did fellow disciples exploit her earnings; she didn’t even survive past Volume One in original story before meeting tragic end…
Her fate seemed too unfortunate—and seeing her innocent face made him want share heartfelt advice so she’d avoid unnecessary detours…
“This high-purity Soul Returning Pill would normally require custom orders at Pill Pavilion!”
Holding onto that pill while examining it closely left Yun Jin wide-eyed with surprise…
Returning it back towards He who waved off gesture:
“Senior Sister Yun Jin treated me on Dye Ink Peak—and now showing me around Wuji Sect… Consider this Soul Returning Pill my token of gratitude.”
“But how can I accept such an expensive gift?”
Her face flushed red with embarrassment—never having received anything so valuable before…
High-purity Soul Returning Pills could extend life by several hours for those near death—a life-saving elixir snatched from Death’s grasp!
From childhood until now—Yun Jin had never received such precious gifts—she was just an ordinary junior sister within sect—not worth spending fortunes on life-saving pills…
“Take it—there are plenty more where I come from—I used them like candy growing up… Besides—it might just save your life someday?”
He waved dismissively feigning indifference like wealthy young master…
Still skeptical yet hopeful—she asked softly: “Really?”
“Really.”
“The Grand Tutor’s son certainly lives up extravagantly…”
Staring at easily obtained Soul Returning Pill left her blue eyes momentarily dazed…
But soon remembering something important—she quickly bowed deeply towards him: “Thank you very much!”
“I told you—it’s my thanks—I should be thanking you instead.”
Helping her stand upright—they continued along forest path together…
This time—with him leading ahead while she followed obediently behind like little follower…
“By any chance—have you visited Wuji Sect before? Is that why you’re so familiar here…”
Her eyes sparkled innocently full curiosity like kitten discovering new world through him…
“When I was young—I visited Wuji Sect alongside elders from Grand Tutor’s residence so I’m somewhat familiar.”
He casually fabricated excuse brushing off inquiry…
After all—not being particularly sharp-minded girl meant she’d likely believe whatever explanation given without question…
“I see… Then I’ll have rely on your guidance more often!”
Listening intently filled admiration…
After all—in eyes world-at-large—the Grand Tutor’s residence represented prestigious noble family within Great Xia Dynasty—their children surely possessed broad horizons from young age…
Yun Jin simply hadn’t expected rumored playboy would turn out so approachable privately—and quite nice too!
Earlier hearing Senior Sister say she’d guide him around made her incredibly nervous initially…
“Speaking of which—Junior Brother Yimo…”
“We should turn at next intersection because continuing forward leads into Wuji Sect’s back mountain secret realm.”
“Sect elders warned against entering secret realm below Foundation Establishment stage due dangers involved!”
Stopping before bamboo grove—she earnestly cautioned while holding onto his arm…
“Dangerous?” Raising eyebrow curiously…
“Oh don’t take lightly! Rumor has it ghosts haunt back mountain lately! Terrifying stuff!”
