Genius Trainee: My Husband Isn't Human - Chapter 18
Mo Wangchu sneered coldly, “Why should I believe you, just based on your word?”
Luo Jingcha clenched her fists and asked, “Then what do you want me to do to make you believe?”
Mo Wangchu tapped his finger twice on the car window, then slowly rolled it up. This action directly made Luo Jingcha’s heart sink.
The car engine started, and Luo Jingcha stood there in a daze. After two seconds, she heard a “click.”
It was the sound of the car door opening.
“Get in.”
“Where are we going?” Luo Jingcha’s throat moved as she swallowed.
“Prove to me that you’re worth it.”
Mo Wangchu’s emotionless voice came from inside the car. Although it sounded somewhat muffled through the heavy car door, for Luo Jingcha it was like rain after a long drought, making her entire being feel refreshed.
Just as Luo Jingcha opened the car door to get in, Mo Wangchu said, “Wait.”
Luo Jingcha was puzzled.
Mo Wangchu glanced at her shoes with disgust and frowned, “Clean your shoes before getting in the car.”
Luo Jingcha: “……”
Was she really that dirty?
Luo Jingcha sat down on the other side of him, and the car slowly started and drove out of the garage.
It was already summer, but the air conditioning wasn’t on in the car. All the windows were closed with no breeze coming through. Luo Jingcha felt like she was in a steamer, with sweat slowly seeping out.
She turned her head to glance at Mo Wangchu. This man had typical pale white skin. At first, she thought his face was so white because he wore powder, but now getting closer, she discovered that even his neck and hands were particularly white.
Being pale was one thing, but in this stuffy car, this man was dressed so completely covered up, yet there wasn’t a single drop of sweat on his neck or forehead.
Luo Jingcha found it strange – did this person have no sweat glands?
Her staring seemed too obvious, as Mo Wangchu said coldly, “How much longer do you plan to stare?”
“Uh, you noticed…” Luo Jingcha sheepishly withdrew her gaze.
Mo Wangchu glanced at her sideways, then looked at the rearview mirror in front of the car and said, “Your eyes are bulging like light bulbs – do you think I’m blind?”
Luo Jingcha: “……”
After a while, he suddenly said softly, “Mo Qi, turn on the air conditioning.”
“Yes, sir.”
After the air conditioning was turned on, the car gradually became cool. Luo Jingcha sighed comfortably in her heart, thinking that this CEO wasn’t so unreasonable after all.
But just as she finished this thought, Mo Wangchu, as if he could see through her mind, said indifferently, “Don’t flatter yourself. I turned on the air conditioning because you stink.”
Luo Jingcha: “……”
Fine, he was the boss now, and whatever he said was right. When it was time to submit, she had to submit.
When the car reached an intersection, Mo Wangchu suddenly said, “Turn right to the studio. Tell them to go back to the company directly.”
“Yes, sir.”
Driver Mo Qi immediately turned the steering wheel right into the right lane. While waiting at the red light, he opened the window and extended his hand to make a gesture.
Seeing this, Luo Jingcha couldn’t help but widen her eyes slightly. Wasn’t this a hand signal used for communicating with teammates during combat operations? How did even a driver know these signals?
This Mo Group, this Mo Wangchu, was indeed not simple.
Mo Wangchu seemed to notice that Luo Jingcha had discovered this, but didn’t say anything. Only if you looked carefully, the corner of his mouth seemed to rise slightly by just a tiny bit.
When they arrived at the studio, Mo Wangchu took Luo Jingcha directly backstage.
They were currently recording a popular variety show. The show attracted viewers with the gimmick of ordinary people challenging popular idols. There were 1,000 randomly selected audience members present. After a one-on-one battle between the ordinary person and the idol, the audience would vote for both parties. If the ordinary person received more votes than the idol, they could win a big prize provided by the show.
Although the show claimed to feature ordinary people challenging idols, these “ordinary people” weren’t truly ordinary. They were minor artists with some recognition from various companies. The companies sent them to the show to gain exposure. It was normal if they couldn’t beat the idols, but if they actually won against an idol, they would definitely become the company’s priority for promotion.
Simply put, this was a talent screening show.
At first glance of this show, Luo Jingcha had a vague suspicion in her heart. It wasn’t until Mo Wangchu said those words that she realized this man wasn’t joking with her.
This was a show invested by Mo Group. Mo Wangchu’s arrival made the production team panic – this was their major investor!
Hearing the news, the chief director hurried down to greet him, “Mr. Mo, why did you come in person? Quick, quick, bring a sofa for Mr. Mo!”
“No need.” Mo Wangchu coldly refused and asked directly, “Which number is He Mingyu?”
He Mingyu was the center position winner from the previous season of “I Dream!” and was currently a very popular idol. Mo Wangchu was asking which number challenger He Mingyu was.
The chief director flipped through his booklet and said, “Mingyu is next.”
“Mm.”
Mo Wangchu hummed in acknowledgment, then pushed Luo Jingcha, who was standing beside him, in front of the chief director and said concisely, “Replace the challenger with her.”
“Ah?”
As soon as he said this, everyone present looked uncomfortable. Luo Jingcha had originally thought it strange – shouldn’t Mo Wangchu take her to test her abilities? How did they suddenly end up here? She hadn’t expected this was his plan!
The chief director looked at Luo Jingcha and said with difficulty, “Mr. Mo, you just took office so you might not know, but we signed contracts with various companies a month before this show started recording. Which person challenges which idol was all predetermined. Now that we’re about to go on stage, suddenly changing people… isn’t that inappropriate?”
“Change the person.” Mo Wangchu still said.
“Mr. Mo, even if you are the sponsor, but…”
The chief director originally wanted to continue persuading Mo Wangchu, but somehow suddenly changed his tune. “Understood, Mr. Mo. I’ll arrange it immediately. I’ll have this young lady communicate with the main station about music and lighting. Someone will come to take her on stage in ten minutes.”
“Go ahead.”
Under everyone’s incredulous gazes, the chief director began arranging things for his staff.
“What’s going on? This is a last-minute replacement, and the chief director just agreed like that? How will we explain this to the company and the fans?”
“The company side is fine. The challenger was originally an artist sent by Longyao, so replacing with another Longyao artist doesn’t matter. But when the show airs, the fan circles will probably start fighting again.”
Staff members whispered below, and Luo Jingcha could vaguely hear some of it. She said to Mo Wangchu, “Is this how you want me to prove myself?”
Mo Wangchu looked at his watch. “You have nine minutes and thirty-seven seconds left.”
Luo Jingcha clenched her fists.
“He Mingyu debuted as the center position winner from the previous season. If you want to prove yourself, go beat him. If you win, I’ll give you a chance.” Mo Wangchu said indifferently.
“You have eight minutes left.”
After saying this, he turned and left the backstage, walking toward the audience seating area.
Luo Jingcha looked at his retreating figure and gritted her teeth hatefully. How was she supposed to win?
He Mingyu had already taken the stage, with the usual explosive music. Through the monitor, Luo Jingcha could see his body moving with the music, his clean and sharp dance moves and youthful, soaring voice making the audience unable to help but scream.
Could she win?
