Going back to the modern times and live broadcasting my daily life to the ancients!! - Chapter 5
As the emperor dismissed the ministers, they left the palace in small groups, whispering among themselves.
The short official, Mr. Liu, leaned closer and asked, “Mr. Zhou, do you know which country the imperial concubine came from?”
The tall and thin Mr. Zhou shook his head. “I have no idea. You’ll have to ask Mr. Zhu. He’s the most well-informed person in court.”
The two of them turned their eyes toward the official in red court robes walking just ahead. They picked up their pace and quickly caught up with him.
Now flanking him on both sides, they leaned in. Mr. Zhu gave them a puzzled glance. “What are you two up to?”
“Lord Zhu,” said Mr. Liu, “you’re the most informed person in court. Do you know where our imperial concubine is from?”
Zhu Yongxing paused. He looked up at the sky and saw a middle-aged woman hugging the imperial concubine in public. Even though both were women, such behavior was improper in court. He shook his head.
“I don’t know which country she’s from,” he said finally. “But if you ask me, the rumors are true—she’s definitely a spy.”
The other two went silent, their expressions changing drastically. They turned to each other and said at the same time, “That’s terrible! If the imperial concubine really is a spy, it’ll ruin the eldest prince’s future!”
Prince Yan Xi, the eldest prince of Northern Liang, had been raised by the emperor as the future crown prince ever since he was born. His birth mother was the imperial concubine in question.
The second prince had already left with the concubine and returned to his hometown. That meant only one prince remained in Northern Liang—and he was born of a foreign spy.
Now that the truth was out, the eldest prince had no hope of becoming the crown prince. Even if the emperor tried to support him, the officials would never agree to let the son of a spy inherit the throne.
Everyone had witnessed what happened today. It seemed the emperor could forgive love, but not betrayal. As the ruler of a powerful empire, he had vomited blood twice in one day—because of a woman who turned out to be a spy.
And if he never touched another woman in the harem again, what would happen to Northern Liang?
Right now, the empire had only one prince, and he was the son of a foreign spy. Could such a prince really sit on the throne one day?
Zhu Yongxing let out a heavy sigh. “The emperor was foolish… he actually placed a spy in the position of imperial concubine.”
Just then, the prime minister, walking behind them, overheard their conversation. He came to a sudden stop and warned them in a low voice, “Say no more. If the emperor’s secret guards hear this and report it, you’ll lose your heads.”

After finally calming Song Lan down, Shuixian changed the subject in time: “By the way, Mom, where is Dad?”
”Your father is at the farm. I’ll call him and tell him you’re home.” Song Lan took out her phone from her apron, paused, and added, “Oh, and I have to go to the police station to clear up the missing person case that has been filed for ten years. I also have to tell your adoptive parents that you’re back! You don’t know that your adoptive parents have put a lot of thought into you over the years.”
”Okay, got it, mom. I’ll go visit Dad and Mom Cheng after I settle down.”
Ran Shuixian said with red eyes. The cheng were Ran Shuixian’s adoptive parents. Even though they found their biological daughter, they still loved her as always.
While Song Lan was dialing her man’s number, her eyes were reluctant to move away from Shuixian’s face. She had been busy reminiscing about the past with her daughter and had not paid attention to what she was wearing.
Only then did she notice that her daughter was dressed in ancient costume. The costume looked more formal than the palace costumes in TV dramas. The only difference was that her hair was filled with heavy-looking gold and jade hairpins. Wasn’t it too heavy?
”Child, why are you wearing ancient costumes? And why is your hair so fancy? Hmm… the color of this gold hairpin is evenly matched, and it looks no different from the real thing.”
Ran Shuixian raised her hand and touched the hairpin on her head, and made up an excuse: “Uh! I just came back from the crew.”
Ran Shuixian had stuffed her hair full of gold and jade hairpins before escaping from ancient times to the modern world. They weren’t fake—they were all real.
Not only was her hair weighed down with ornaments, but her bag was packed with precious antiques, and her wrists were stacked with heavy jewelry. Her arms were sore now.
But she couldn’t tell anyone. Even if she did, no one would believe her. They might think she was crazy.
Her husband didn’t answer the phone. Song Lan put it down and looked at Shuixian, complaining, “You’re such a cruel child. Why did you stay hidden for so long and not come back? You didn’t even tell us anything.”
Both families had gone through so much trying to find her.
“Mom, I’m sorry. It’s my fault. I didn’t remember anything during that time. As soon as I got my memory back yesterday, I came right away.”
Ran Shuixian thought about it and decided to tell Song Lan what she could.
As for the quick-travel agreement she signed with the system, she didn’t mention a word.
Ran Shuixian actually regretted signing that crappy quick-travel agreement now. She couldn’t even go home because she was always stuck doing missions. Every time she completed one and wanted to return to visit her family, the damn system would wipe her memory and throw her into the next world.
The system had claimed that time passed differently in the Flower Country compared to the mission planes. For example, one year in a mission world was only a few days in her real world. But when she finally got her memories back, ten whole years had passed. Only now did she realize—she had been completely fooled.
As if reading her mind, the system suddenly spoke up:
“This system must clarify. The time spent on missions really isn’t proportional to time in the Flower Country. One year in the plane world is only a few days in the Flower Country. However… in the last mission world, you fell in love and gave birth to two little princes. Also, that world was different from the ones before. The others were fictional, but that one was real…”
The more it explained, the quieter its voice became.
The truth was, the system had messed up. It had accidentally sent Ran Shuixian—without her memory—to a real plane instead of a fake one. She ended up falling in love there, even had children with the emperor. When the system realized its mistake, it got punished and went offline for ten years.
When it finally woke up, the first thing it did was restore Ran Shuixian’s memory and bring her back to the Flower Country.
Alas, his host had been through so many planes and hadn’t completed a single mission properly. The system didn’t even want to complain anymore. In one world, she even died within two days of arriving!
