He Thought She’d Never Leave—Until She Did - Chapter 4
The first bite of birthday cake went to Song Yu, with An He personally feeding him.
In reality, what Song Yu wanted to eat was her. He squeezed her waist, slowly taking her in, his Adam’s apple slowly rolling as he swallowed.
He whispered close to her ear, “Do you know what I really want to eat?”
The heat on her face made An He instinctively tremble. Her eyelids dropped, pretending not to hear, but if you looked closely, you could see a blush creeping up her cheeks, and her fingers slightly trembling. How could she not understand his meaning? But she didn’t know what to say, too shy to utter a sound.
Song Yu gave her a forceful pinch, almost crushing her slender waist through the fabric of her clothes. “I want to eat you,” he said. He asked, “Will you let me?”
An He slowly raised her gaze, her moist eyes shimmering with light, her voice soft. “If I don’t, will you let me go?”
“No,” Song Yu said.
Yes, he wouldn’t. He only ever did what he wanted.
A mix of pain and tingling spread through her. An He pleaded, “Let go of me.”
Song Yu took the plate from her hands and gave a warning look to the few waiters a few steps away. Understanding, the waiters lowered their heads and left, leaving only him and An He in the enormous restaurant. When this man became unrestrained, he was practically a maniac.
The Song Yu before her was exactly that—the skin beneath the silver suit was absolutely wicked, and wild to the extreme. He laid An He down on the long table and bent over to kiss her.
The tabletop was ice-cold, and An He didn’t like it, squirming restlessly. His long, defined fingers stroked her, forcing her to stop struggling. “Be a good girl, or I really will take you right here.”
This was a restaurant—was he insane? An He’s eyes were wide as saucers as if she couldn’t believe what she’d heard.
“What? Don’t believe me?” Song Yu reached out to pull the zipper at her side waist. “You’d better believe it.”
The sudden rush of coldness forced her to believe him. She pressed her hand against it, the mist in her moist eyes growing heavier. “Please, no.”
“Then kiss me,” Song Yu commanded possessively.
An He dared not disobey. She wrapped her arms around his neck, tilted her head up, and initiated the kiss. Song Yu was dissatisfied with her peck, calling it boring, and intensified his actions. “How many times do I have to teach you? Still don’t believe me? You’re really not being good.”
His kiss was burning and unbearable, sweeping over her like a tidal wave. It threatened to consume An He entirely.
An He didn’t even dare to moan, because she saw someone secretly watching them in the shadows. By the time she tried to make out what the person looked like, they were gone again.
Song Yu hated her lack of focus. “An He, tell me, how should I punish you? Hmm?”
An He trembled. “I’m sorry, please don’t be angry,” she begged.
Song Yu loved seeing her compromise. Whenever she did, his emotions would surge, as if having her completely under his control was the most thrilling thing.
“Since you’re sorry—” His face paused in front of hers. “—then you’ll please me until my anger subsides.”
An He tremblingly reached out and stroked his side waist. After so many years together, she knew exactly where his sensitive spots were, and easily ignited his passion.
A suppressed growl escaped him. Song Yu pressed her hand down, his dark eyes filled with desire. “I really underestimated you. Our Hehe is truly amazing.”
With one sweep, he picked her up and carried her into the elevator.
The hotel was located above the restaurant, and coincidentally, it was part of the Song family’s property. The presidential suite on the fiftieth floor was permanently reserved for Song Yu; he could stay whenever he wished. An He had been there a few times with him before, and the experience was always intense.
Song Yu carried her straight into the presidential suite. His games were complex, and An He could only comply. The items they used last time were still there. An He said with a shaky voice, “My hands hurt. Can you please not tie me up again tonight?”
“Didn’t you say you liked that last time?” Song Yu placed her on the bed, stripped off his suit jacket, and tossed it carelessly onto the floor. “Was your liking just a lie?”
Song Yu hated deception, so An He dared not say yes. She simply replied, “I have a fever. I don’t want to exert myself too much, I don’t feel well.”
Song Yu’s Adam’s apple slowly rolled, a rare moment of softness. “Fine, I’ll listen to you tonight.”
With a roll, they went from facing each other to facing away. Song Yu’s action of undressing was anything but graceful; with a strong tug, An He’s long dress tore apart.
“Don’t worry, I’ll buy you a new one,” he said, kissing the back of her neck.
An He tilted her head back, trying to see him, but couldn’t. That feeling of her heart floating mid-air clawed at her, leaving her helpless. “Song Yu, I like you.”
The sudden confession drew a light chuckle from the man. “Just like? Hmm?”
An He pursed her lips. “I love you.”
Song Yu bit her soft earlobe. “Since you’re so good, I’ll make it up to you tonight.”
An He bit her lip, forcing herself not to make a sound, but his intensity was too much, and halfway through, a sound still escaped her. The noise scattered throughout the room, and the sound-activated lights flickered on and off. The reflections on the floor-to-ceiling windows appeared and disappeared. Several times, An He felt like she was going to die, only to come back to life again.
A stinging pain spread across her shoulders and back; she didn’t need to look to know how deep the marks were. When Song Yu went wild, he was truly impossible to resist. It seemed… she’d have to see a doctor again tomorrow.
“It hurts,” An He said, her eyes red. “Be gentler.”
Song Yu turned her face and kissed her lips; her lips were still the best to kiss, soft and sweet like candy, making him unable to stop.
“An He,” he said, his voice strained. “Remember, never leave me.”
Enveloped in heat, An He couldn’t speak. He continued, “If you ever dare to leave, I will chase you to the ends of the earth, find you, and then—”
An He gasped, hearing him finish: “—tear you to shreds.”
Find you, tear you to shreds. Song Yu spoke the cruel words. “Did you remember that?”
An He nodded.
“Say it.”
“I know.”
“Kiss me.” Song Yu turned her toward him.
An He kissed his Adam’s apple. A flush deepened around Song Yu’s eyes. “I really want to take a picture of you looking like this.”
An He agreed to everything else, but not this one thing. “Please don’t,” she said. “Don’t take a picture.”
Song Yu leaned closer. “I won’t take one, but you have to obey me.”
An He: “Okay, I’ll obey you.”
“Call me Yu.” (t/n: A-Yu (阿昱) is a familiar and intimate way to address Song Yu)
“Yu.”
“Call me your boyfriend.”
“My boyfriend.”
“Say you love me.”
“I love you.”
“Say you will never leave in this lifetime.”
“I will never leave, ever.”
“Say if you betray me, you will die.”
“I will absolutely never betray you.”
Song Yu kissed her side neck, biting down hard, leaving a deep tooth mark. An He let out a soft hiss.
“You are mine. Only I can see you. If you dare let anyone else see, I will kill you.”
An He softly agreed, tears streaming down from the corners of her eyes.
“Why are you crying?” Song Yu kissed her eyes. “I was just teasing you.”
He was always like this, hitting her and then giving her a sweet date (t/n: This is a Chinese idiom meaning to alternate between punishment and reward; a classic manipulation tactic).
“Be good, Hehe,” Song Yu coaxed gently. “I like you so much.”
An He wanted to ask him if there was anything besides “like.” For example—Did he love her? She didn’t ask, afraid the answer wouldn’t be what she wanted to hear, and afraid of angering him and ruining the current “beautiful” atmosphere. Whether he loved her or not, it was enough that she loved him.
An He didn’t know how she got back. The next morning, she only learned from the maid that Song Yu hadn’t returned all night, saying someone had an emergency and he went to deal with it. An He casually asked while eating breakfast, “Who had an emergency?”
The maids exchanged glances and shook their heads in unison. “We’re not sure.”
Their guilty expressions raised An He’s suspicions. She put down her bowl and went upstairs, taking out her phone to call Song Yu. No answer. She sent a WeChat message. No reply. Every month, he would disappear like this for a few days. Logically, An He should have been used to it, but her heart was still anxious, always feeling like something bad was about to happen.
She took her doubts with her to work, proceeding with her tasks as usual. In the afternoon, there was still no sign of Song Yu. Colleagues gathered in the break room to gossip.
“Hey, I heard CEO Song took a woman to that new Western restaurant last night. He even reserved the whole place.”
“How do you know?”
“My friend works there; she told me.”
“Do you know who the woman is?”
“No idea, but she’s supposed to be really pretty.”
The woman crooked her finger, and the others leaned in. “But get this, CEO Song really cares about her—he even gave her a crown.”
“A crown? You don’t mean the royal crown that was bought by a mystery bidder at the auction, do you?”
“Yep, that’s the one.”
“Well, then that woman must be CEO Song’s girlfriend, no doubt.”
“Not necessarily. If she were really his girlfriend, why wouldn’t he announce it? He’s single, so there’s no problem with going public.”
“Are you suggesting…”
“There must be something fishy going on. Maybe CEO Song just wants to have some fun with her.”
Their voices were just loud enough for An He, who had just entered, to hear. The phrase “have some fun” felt like a stone dropping into her heart, instantly creating ripples. Did Song Yu really just want to play with her? She filled her cup and left without lingering.
Tiantian sent a WeChat message.
[Sweetie, tell me, tell me! Did Song Yu propose to you?]
An He: [No, we were both wrong.]
Tiantian: [Not a proposal? Then what was the surprise he mentioned?]
An He: [He gave me a gift.]
An He: [Photo.jpg]
Tiantian: [Holy cow, a crown! OMG, that’s a huge gesture!]
Tiantian: [Even though it’s not a diamond ring, I can forgive him, considering how sincere he is. Wuwu (t/n: Wuwu is an onomatopoeia for crying or sadness), An He, you’re so lucky, I’m jealous.]
Indeed, no one else would be as extravagant as Song Yu.
An He: [What do you think Song Yu sees me as?]
Tiantian: [What do you mean?]
An He: [Am I just a doll?]
Tiantian: [How could you be? He definitely likes you, otherwise why would he date you for so long?]
An He: [But I can’t feel his liking at all. Crying.jpg]
Tiantian: [Successful men are all like this, emotionally reserved. But I’m sure he likes you.]
With Tiantian’s analysis, An He felt much better.
An He: [You’re right. We’ve been together for so long; he must like me.]
A man like Song Yu couldn’t be forced into anything he didn’t want.
Just before quitting time, An He received a call from Mrs. Song. “Hehe, what time are you off work?”
An He replied, “In about an hour, Mom. What’s up?”
Mrs. Song said, “I bought some things and left them at the convenience store. Could you pick them up on your way home?”
An He: “Sure, send me the receipt, and I’ll grab them later.”
An He didn’t expect to be approached by a stranger while picking up the items. “Miss An, is that right?” the man asked.
An He was a bit socially anxious and didn’t like talking to strangers. She nodded. “Yes.”
The man extended his hand. “Hello, my name is Zhou.”
An He ignored the hand. The man smiled and explained, “Apologies, I forgot to mention, Mrs. Song asked me to wait here for you.”
Mrs. Song… An He then realized that the “Mrs. Song” he referred to was Song Yu’s mother. “Do you need something?”
“I’m here for our blind date.”
“…” Now it was An He’s turn to be surprised. “A blind date?”
The man: “Yes, a blind date arranged by your mother.”
An He initially thought there was a mistake, but her phone rang. She took it out and opened WeChat; it was a message from Mrs. Song.
[You’re not getting any younger. Xiao Zhou is a nice person. Why don’t you two talk?]
It really was a blind date. But she didn’t want one.
“I’m sorry, I don’t have any plans to date right now.”
The man wasn’t offended. “Actually, neither do I, but we can’t refuse our parents’ good intentions, can we? Why don’t we sit down and talk?”
An He shook her head. “I apologize, but I have something to do.”
Seeing her about to leave, the man reached out to stop her. In the midst of the slight struggle, a cold stare struck her eyes.
Through the glass window, An He’s gaze met Song Yu’s. In the darkness of the night, the man’s face was ashen, his handsome brow and eyes permeated with a black mist. His look was terrifyingly sharp. His taut jawline was straight and sharp, and even his usually curved thin lips were now pressed into a straight line. If looks could kill, An He would already be dead.
Her heart violently clenched, her hand shook, and the bag dropped to the ground. The contents scattered everywhere, with tomatoes rolling away.
An He thought: I’m finished.
