I Became The Villain's Trainer - Chapter 110
Chapter 110
“Urgh… I’ll kill him.”
Alexa ground her teeth. She hadn’t been hurt in the fall. Even the pitch-black pit that had looked bottomless had an end. She’d landed safely on a soft carpet, but her heart was still racing with fear. Rubbing her eyes with trembling hands, Alexa whimpered.
“No, that’s not right.”
You can’t kill a god…
“Then I’ll curse him…”
“The curse has already been cast, you know. Child, are you alright?”
Dephensores once again offered a hand to Alexa. She resisted the urge to sink her teeth into it and snapped her head away instead. No matter how badly she’d fallen, she refused to get up using that hand. Pushing herself up from the ground, Alexa brushed herself off. Dephensores let out a chuckle.
“With kids like you around, at least things won’t be boring.”
“Is this Karakter?”
Ignoring his comment entirely, Alexa asked.
“That’s right.”
Bookshelves lined the space endlessly, and a single massive book floated in midair. No one was there, yet the pages of the book turned slowly. There was no visible light source, but the place was bathed in a warm orange glow. Alexa approached the book that was flipping its pages on its own.
“What is this?”
“You’ll know when you see it. This is your space, Alexa. No one knows it better than you do.”
Casting a sideways glance at Dephensores, Alexa stepped closer to the book.
“Huh?”
Her eyes widened in surprise. Names she’d seen many times before were written on the pages. And the book wasn’t complete, it was being written in real time. The lights swirling around it transformed into dark letters, landing on the pages.
Carefully, Alexa turned a page. The earlier sections were filled with dense writing, but the later ones were blank. On the cover, it read: <Puppy Grand Duke’s Succession Class>. It was a title so familiar, so cringeworthy, that she could almost feel her limbs curl. What was strange was that next to the title, it said <ver. Alexa>.
“Dephensores… what is this?”
The slowly approaching Dephensores stared at the book intently.
“So, you can see the letters written in there.”
“You can’t?”
“To me, it’s just blank pages. Probably because this is your Karakter.”
That made some sense. After all, Dephensores was a legendary figure in the original novel. Although the original story never delved deeply into him.
‘Then is this book being written as I live in this world now?’
Given that it said Alexa’s version, that seemed likely.
“What is it you’re looking for here, Dephensores?”
“A way to break the curse.”
Dephensores smiled softly.
“You said you hold the world I once lived in. That means you also have the way to undo the curse. That’s what I need, the method to lift the curse and return to Lunailliah’s side.”
It seemed Alexa really was the character closest to the heart of the novel’s story. After all, she had entered this world after reading the book. If Dephensores was right, then the original novel contained both the method to break the curse and the secrets of this world.
‘So is the original novel somewhere in here too?’
Alexa glanced at Dephensores. But considering he couldn’t even read this book, it was doubtful he could read that one either.
“You should find your way back too. I’ll look for my answer.”
“Alright. But you’re not allowed to leave me here alone!”
“I thought you didn’t trust me.”
“Being with you is better than being alone.”
Alexa pouted as she replied. It wasn’t like she actually wanted to cling to Dephensores. He was simply the only one around to cling to.
“…If we work together, we can get home faster.”
Dephensores burst out laughing. His face, which resembled Ysildus’s, brought Alexa some comfort. She let out a sigh.
‘Ysildus…’
What are you doing right now?
* * *
It had been two years since Alexa had fallen unconscious. Her breathing had grown soft and steady, but she still hadn’t awakened. Jeremiah gently brushed a strand of hair from Alexa’s forehead.
“Alexa…”
He whispered her name tenderly. He hadn’t returned to the imperial capital during all that time, choosing instead to stay in Thersion. The Emperor’s loyal servants who had accompanied him were sent back. Or rather, it would be more accurate to say they were driven out of Thersion.
Jeremiah remained in Thersion, as an ally and a sword. He had resolved to be the one to pierce through the curse and the pact, and strike down the Emperor himself. In retaliation for Jeremiah’s disobedience, the Emperor had killed his mother.
Jeremiah had raced down that long road to see her body, displayed at the gates. That was when he had sworn vengeance. That had been a year ago. And today marked the first step toward fulfilling that vow.
“Jeremiah.”
A voice rich and smooth, like wine steeped in age, called out to him. It was Ysildus. If anyone had changed the most over the past two years, it was him.
The ever-present gentle smile had vanished from his now icy expression. His cold blue eyes, like the wind of a winter storm, were void of all emotion as they looked at Jeremiah.
“It’s time to come out now.”
Ysildus said gently. It meant the time limit he’d given Jeremiah was up. His obsession with Alexa had only grown stronger over the past two years. He hated having anyone else linger by her side for too long.
That was when they learned Ysildus had imprinted on Alexa. Among wolves, an imprint was an unbreakable instinct and vow—no one could defy it.
Terrun had given up trying to wedge himself between them. Now, like a whimpering puppy, he simply hovered near Alexa. Ysildus’s overbearing protective instincts toward her had become so intense that no one dared stop him.
Only after Jeremiah left the room did Ysildus lower his guard. Like passing the baton, Ysildus entered the room and shut the door tightly behind him. He approached Alexa with slow, measured steps. She lay sunk into a white bed, peaceful in appearance. Were it not for the slow rise and fall of her chest, she could have been mistaken for a doll. Ysildus drew one of her hands from under the covers and held it gently.
Summer had returned again with the changing seasons. Essellia had brought out the thin summer blanket and tucked Alexa in herself. Still, Alexa remained lost in a deep dream.
According to Karrolf, the physical damage from the poison should’ve long been healed. The reason she hadn’t awakened yet must be psychological.
Selina should have been torn to pieces and buried in every corner of the land to keep her from ever reentering the cycle of reincarnation.
But Baron Visten had held back the wolves, warning that shedding blood while Alexa still hadn’t woken could have a negative effect. After all, Alexa and Selina both belonged to the same crimson-blooded clan.
In the end, no one could release their rage. They could only gnaw at their lips in helpless fury over Selina’s empty death. Ysildus pressed his cheek to Alexa’s palm. He had always been larger than her, but over the past two years he had grown even more. Ysildus was steadily becoming a fully-fledged wolf.
“Alexa. What are you dreaming about?”
He asked softly. His gaze toward her brimmed with possessiveness and a fierce sense of ownership. Ysildus lowered his head and pressed a lingering kiss to Alexa’s wrist.
“It’s about time you woke up.”
Not that I’m rushing you, of course, he added gently. No matter when she opened her eyes, he would be there, waiting.
A wolf’s life was long. In that vast span of time, Alexa’s slumber would amount to only a brief moment. Ysildus gently caressed her fingers, one by one. The warmth in them told him she was still alive.
“You just have to come back, Alexa.”
He tucked her hand back under the blanket and opened the balcony door slightly, letting in the summer breeze.
Then he said, “I’ll be back soon, Alexa.”
Today, Thersion was taking one more step out into the world. With the Emperor’s decree for deployment issued, today marked the opening of a new chapter.
* * *
[The Kingdom of Platicio on the southern border threatens to invade the Empire. Thersion shall act as the sword of the Empire.]
Carlisle scanned the Emperor’s stamped decree with cold, detached eyes. Without hesitation, he tossed it into the fire. Under his cloak, he stroked the head of a wolf resting at his feet. This was the alpha of the wolf pack that had immediately attached itself to Thersion’s wolves as soon as they departed. It was common knowledge that the forest wolves followed Thersion.
“Ysildus.”
“Yes.”
“When dawn breaks tomorrow, we strike the Mage Tower and the Spire. No mistakes will be tolerated.”
Ysildus gave a short nod. They had marched under the Emperor’s orders. But their blades were not turned toward the border. They were turned toward the capital.
And that was all there was to it.
