- Chapter 54 - You Celebrated Too Soon
“Big Sister…” Lianca looked at Olivia, who appeared to be sacrificing herself for her, and couldn’t help but feel touched.
“I want my little sister to always be a free bird. If there’s a burden that must be carried, let me carry it!” Olivia said as she embraced Lianca.
“Boohoo, Big Sister!” Lianca couldn’t hold back her tears and started crying.
Orson watched the two sisters hugging and couldn’t help but feel the urge to complain.
What is this? Some tragic sisterly farewell drama?
Am I some kind of evil villain who oppresses women and bullies men?
“Um…” Orson was about to speak when Olivia interrupted him.
“It’s alright, Orson. I… I will take on the responsibility of being your fiancée. Even if you despise me, please, for the sake of the alliance between our two families…” Olivia said, looking at Orson with tear-filled eyes.
“No, what I mean is, you don’t have to do this. I…”
“Or do you want both of us?” Olivia exclaimed, looking at Orson in shock.
Lianca also turned her gaze toward Orson, her eyes filled with disdain.
“Beast,” she spat through gritted teeth.
“…” Orson decided to shut his mouth.
Fine. If I don’t say anything, nothing can go wrong, right?
“So, Orson, you really want both of us?” Olivia looked at him pitifully, her eyes still glistening with tears.
Meanwhile, Lianca’s anger toward Orson was practically tangible.
“No, no, no! That’s not it!” Orson quickly waved his hands. “One is fine! Just one!”
—
Half an hour later, Olivia had managed to coax Lianca into leaving.
Orson sat across from Olivia, who was now calmly sipping her coffee, and let out a long sigh.
The engagement was canceled… but not entirely.
Orson’s engagement to Lianca had been annulled, but in its place, the engagement had been transferred to Olivia.
In the end, Orson still couldn’t rid himself of the burden of having a fiancée.
“So, Classmate Olivia.”
“Just call me Olivia, my future husband~” Olivia said with a smile, holding her coffee cup as she looked at Orson.
“No, we’re not officially married yet,” Orson said, his tone serious as he looked at Olivia. “And stop teasing me. Tell me your real reason—why did you do this?”
“Why, you ask…” Olivia tilted her head, tapping her chin with her finger as if deep in thought. Then she said, “No reason, really. It’s just that, for the sake of the alliance between our families, and out of concern for my sister, I decided to take on this ‘heavy’ burden.”
After taking on this “heavy” burden, the two of us could simply move into a couple’s dorm, live a married life, and I could cook and clean while fulfilling my duties as a wife. We’d have two children—a boy named Lude and a girl named Sona. When we grow old, we’ll sit on chairs, basking in the sun, watching our successful children and grandchildren, enjoying the peace of family life… Ah, this must be heaven.
Thank you, Lianca. Thank you for fulfilling your sister’s happiness. All those years of me being good to you were worth it.
Olivia had already begun fantasizing about her future blissful life.
Looking at Olivia, who was as sly as a fox, Orson, of course, didn’t believe a word she said.
So, he decided to cut straight to the point. “How about we change the engagement from me to Litte instead?”
“Eh?” Olivia looked at Orson in surprise, then smiled. “That’s not impossible, but are you really willing to do that, Orson?”
Orson fell silent.
It was true—forcing Litte into an engagement with someone he didn’t know wasn’t something Orson could bring himself to do, even if Litte might not object. And truthfully, Olivia was very beautiful; Litte wouldn’t be losing out if he married her.
“Forget it. I don’t know what you’re thinking, but let me make this clear: we’re only engaged, not married, and the engagement hasn’t even been formally approved by both families.” Orson said, trying to temper Olivia’s excitement.
“No problem. I’ll convince my father,” Olivia said, as if she hadn’t heard Orson’s underlying message at all.
“This isn’t about convincing or not convincing.” Orson shook his head. “Even if both families’ heads approve of the engagement, I have my own principles. Olivia, you need to respect boundaries.”
“Alright.” Olivia nodded obediently. “What are your conditions, Orson?”
You must be joking. I’m already Orson’s fiancée—who could be more secure in this position than me?
“Fine.” Orson nodded and began laying out his terms. “First, I have no intention of getting married while I’m still studying at the academy. Any discussions about a wedding will have to wait until after graduation.”
“Second, while we’re at school, I’d prefer to maintain a normal classmate relationship with you. I also have to take care of Litte, so don’t even think about moving into a couple’s dorm.”
“Eh? You’re that attentive to Litte?” Olivia pouted, clearly a little dissatisfied, but she still nodded. “Fine, I can accept that. In fact, I was planning to suggest something similar.”
Rather than jumping straight into married life, Olivia preferred to secure her position as Orson’s fiancée first and then gradually build a romantic relationship with him.
Watching Olivia alternate between appearing scheming and genuinely affectionate, Orson couldn’t help but feel a headache coming on.
In some ways, Lianca was actually better—at least she wasn’t as hard to read as her sister, Olivia.
“By the way, I want to ask you something.” Orson turned to Olivia.
“Did you deceive your sister?”
“Eh?” Olivia blinked in surprise. “Orson, why would you say that?”
“Because you don’t seem to dislike the idea of marrying me. And just now, when you were crying, the moment Lianca left, you stopped immediately.”
“Well, there’s a saying: ‘If you can’t resist, you might as well enjoy it,’ right?” Olivia said playfully, sticking out her tongue. “Or would you like me to start crying for you now, Orson?”
“Besides, Lianca truly doesn’t like you. Whether it’s what she says to your face or what she tells me in private, it’s obvious.”
“So rather than forcing you two into an unhappy marriage, wouldn’t it make more sense for me to step in?”
“What’s the matter, Orson? Are you thinking that I schemed all this because I like you? That I orchestrated this entire situation?” Olivia said with a smile. “If that’s the case, I must be really amazing to predict all your moves.”
“Alright.” Orson sighed, reluctantly accepting Olivia’s explanation.
He didn’t want to overestimate his own appeal.
“By the way, Olivia, was it you who told Lianca to help me during last night’s incident? If so, thank you.”
He finished the last of his now-lukewarm coffee and stood to leave.
“Nope.” Olivia shook her head. “That was entirely Lianca’s decision.”
“To be honest, I was shocked. I didn’t expect her to help you.”
Olivia had almost thought Lianca didn’t dislike Orson anymore, which would’ve completely ruined her plans.
“I see.” Orson paused for a moment, then continued. “Well, when you go back, please thank Lianca for me.”
“Alright,” Olivia agreed.
Orson bid her farewell and left the café.
At least for now, Lianca was free from the constraints of the engagement.
This would make it easier for Orson to pair her with Litte.
After all, he had to find a suitable partner for his younger brother.
What Orson didn’t know was that at that very moment, Litte was lying in his dorm room, rolling around on Orson’s bed, hugging his blanket and pretending it was Orson.
“Hehe…”
And why was Litte so happy?
Because earlier that morning, Orson had told her he was going to break off his engagement with Lianca.
Once Orson was no longer engaged, the person closest to him would naturally be Litte herself~
Litte had done absolutely nothing but still managed to win big. How could she not be overjoyed?
