- Chapter 69 - Something Feels Off
A few minutes later, Olivia looked at Lianca, who was now lying in bed and sound asleep, and smiled.
Her younger sister’s personality was indeed a little peculiar. While she was usually obedient and compliant with her, she had an inexplicable obsession when it came to Orson.
Taking the initiative to cancel the engagement between Orson and Lianca wasn’t entirely for Olivia’s own benefit. If they had kept the engagement, Lianca would inevitably collapse one day upon realizing she could never surpass Orson.
In this way, Olivia felt that she was helping Lianca as well.
With that thought, the guilt she had been feeling eased slightly.
After all, you don’t even like Orson, Lianca. Why not just let your sister have him?
—
The next day, Orson was on duty in the Student Council office.
Although all the documents had already been dealt with, as the Student Council President, he was obligated to spend at least two hours each day in the office unless he had a valid reason to take leave.
“Olivia, don’t you have anything to do?” Orson couldn’t help but speak as he looked at Olivia, who was sitting beside him with a smile, resting her chin in her hand and watching him.
“You know the Liaison and Public Relations Departments under me don’t have much to do when there’s no major event,” Olivia said.
“Fine, but you could at least stay in your own office. There’s no need for you to keep coming here all the time,” Orson couldn’t help but say.
“Eh?” Olivia said, scooting her chair slightly to the side, and put on a hurt expression.
“I’m just trying to help the President with his burdens. Besides, didn’t you say that everyone in the Student Council should work together? Is there a problem with me sitting here when I’m free?”
“Or is it that the esteemed President thinks I have ulterior motives?”
“Ugh…” Orson, seeing Olivia act like this again, simply chose to remain silent.
Two hours passed quickly, and Orson finally escaped the torment of being alone in a room with Olivia. He packed up his things and prepared to return to the dormitory.
Just then, Olivia spoke up, “President Orson, are you busy this afternoon or evening?”
“Not really. Why?”
“Well…” Olivia lightly tapped her finger against her lips before continuing, “I heard there’s a new shop that opened on the commercial street. I was thinking of checking it out. If you’re free, why don’t you come with me?”
“Uh…” Orson hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. “I think I just remembered I have something to do…”
“Oh? Really?” Olivia covered her mouth and chuckled softly. “Could it be that the esteemed President is worried people might misunderstand if we go shopping together?”
“I must apologize, then, for putting you in such a difficult position.” Olivia feigned a tearful look. “All I wanted was to be friends with you, President Orson…”
“It’s not that…” Orson opened his mouth to explain but ended up sighing. “Alright, fine. But I need to let Litte know first. He’ll probably come with me.”
“That’s fine.” Olivia nodded.
Litte is just a little brother. She didn’t see him as a threat.
“By the way, aren’t you bringing Lianca along?” Orson suddenly thought of this and said.
If Lianca came along, he could take the opportunity to play matchmaker for the two of them.
“Eh? Why would I bring Lianca?” Olivia seemed surprised. “Don’t tell me, Orson, you still haven’t given up on her?”
“How rude. You already have me, and yet you’re still thinking about Lianca.”
“That’s not what I meant!” Orson quickly explained. “It’s just… if I’m bringing my younger brother, shouldn’t you bring your younger sister?”
“Are you trying to set them up?”
“Kind of.” Orson nodded. “They’re in the same class, their abilities are evenly matched, and they already know each other…”
“I would like to bring Lianca along, but it seems Lianca hasn’t really wanted to see you much lately, Orson,” Olivia said.
This time, it actually left Orson a bit surprised.
“Why?”
“Because someone is just too talented. Lianca looks up to that person but realized she can’t catch up no matter how hard she tries. It’s made her so upset that she’s cried and thrown tantrums. Poor thing.” Olivia said this with a hint of amusement in her eyes as she looked at Orson.
“That’s not something I can control,” Orson said, exasperated, fully understanding Olivia’s implication.
Who would’ve thought that Lianca, that stubborn little girl, would keep running headfirst into a wall, refusing to stop until either the wall or herself gave way?
“I had a talk with Lianca yesterday. She’s feeling better now, but it’s probably best if you avoid her for the time being. Seeing you might upset her again.”
Of course, Olivia had her own reasons for this.
With Lianca in such a fragile state, she couldn’t risk letting her interact with Orson.
What if Orson managed to untangle her emotional knots and, in the process, accidentally made her fall for him?
What if Lianca came back saying, “Sister, I’ve changed my mind. I don’t want to cancel the engagement. Let’s switch back.”
What would Olivia do then?
There’s no way she’d just step aside.
So, she had to minimize their contact.
—
Half an hour later, on the commercial street.
Orson walked between Olivia and Litte, letting out a resigned sigh.
Originally, he had hoped Litte would help share the burden on this outing. But to his dismay, the two of them seemed to be competing silently, neither saying a word.
Instead, he ended up bearing the pressure from both of them the entire time.
On top of that, the envious stares from passersby didn’t help.
“Orson.” Olivia moved closer to him, so much so that their arms were almost touching.
Orson instinctively tried to step to the right, but Litte was standing nearby.
“Um… Olivia, you’re standing a bit too close.”
At that moment, Litte noticed Olivia’s actions and quickly stepped between the two, separating them.
When Litte heard that Orson had plans with Olivia that afternoon, she didn’t even wait for Orson to say anything before insisting she tag along.
No way was she going to let Orson and Olivia have a date alone.
By any means necessary—be it subtle interference or outright stubbornness—Litte was determined to disrupt Olivia’s plans and keep that scheming woman far away from Orson!
So, when Olivia made a move to get closer to Orson, Litte immediately positioned herself between them.
“Eh? Junior Litte?” Olivia saw Litte’s actions and secretly laughed at how immature he was, though she feigned a surprised expression.
“Senior Olivia, it seems Orson doesn’t really want to be too close to you,” Litte said, flashing a “friendly” smile.
