- Chapter 5 - Riding A Carriage Into Enemy Territory
I got up early this morning, ate breakfast, and went to a weapons shop to buy a cheap iron blunt mace. I believe I will be pretty safe on the trip to my destination, but I still need to be prepared in case something happens. Besides, I can use the mace to hunt monsters and level up later.
Afterwards, I rode in a carriage. After a few minutes, I was overwhelmed by the magnificent scenery outside the carriage.
As soon as I saw the meadow covered in grass and flowers, I felt an overwhelming desire to just lie down there! It’s the first time I’ve smelled such a beautiful scent of fresh leaves spreading towards the horizon. I was overcome with emotion since I had only ever seen this type of environment in books or pictures, but now I can’t be happier because I can finally experience it for myself.
“Ahhh, thank you very much, Your Highness Ignacia, for breaking off our engagement!”
The carriage I was riding in was pulled by a huge horse, and there were several other passengers besides me. Inside the carriage, there are three rows of wooden chairs that can accommodate three people side by side. The carriage itself isn’t particularly spacious, given its use for long-distance travel, which is why you don’t see it very often in the city. Since the roof is dome-shaped, it should be fine even if there is light rain.
The road passes through a meadow, and occasionally, small monsters are peeking at us from time to time, however they don’t attack us since they’re weak.
To reach the Erenzi Holy Land, where I’m heading now, we need to travel along the highway from Bloom the capital of the Fabrum Kingdom. To put things in perspective, using the game’s map, leaving the Fabrum Kingdom would require four area maps, followed by five area maps to reach the Holy City of Tzire.
In the game, traveling between cities doesn’t take that long because there are teleportation devices in each of the major cities, so players can travel between cities in an instant, but in my case right now it would take at least 2 days to get to my destination, so I would have to stay in an inn and a village along the way.
The Erenzi Holy Land is a country that is very generous in providing assistance to support jobs.
In this kingdom, you can change your profession to the basic job “Cleric”, the secondary job “Healer”, and the awakening job “Archbishop”*.
On top of that, there are various equipment and items needed by the different support jobs that can be obtained anywhere in the six major cities and villages in the Erenzi Holy Land. As a result, many players with support jobs, including myself, have made this region their home.
Although I didn’t pay much attention to the story while I was still playing the game back then, the Fabrum Kingdom has always been hostile towards the Erenzi Holy Land.
In other words, the Erenzi Holy Land is an enemy of the Fabrum Kingdom.
I believe the reason behind their hostility towards each other have something to do with the game sub scenario, but I don’t quite remember all the details. At that time, when I was playing the game with my base of operations in the Erenzi Holy Land, I heard that the Kingdom of Farbrum wanted to free the support jobs from Erenzi Holy Land because they claimed the Erenzi Holy Land had a monopoly on support jobs.
I believe the Fabrum Kingdom does not want the Erenzi Holy Land, which is smaller in size than their own kingdom, to have a monopoly on support jobs. Although the Erenzi Holy Land does not actually have a monopoly on support jobs, it may look at it at first, but many players with support jobs have decided to have their base of operations there because it is more convenient for them.
To put it another way, the Fabrum Kingdom isn’t an ideal place for support job.
The Fabrum Kingdom specializes in providing support to the Knight job. Many shops in this kingdom sells recovery items and heavy armor, which are popular among players that rely on them
“But…this isn’t a game anymore; we’re living in reality now where system constraints no longer apply. With our country’s efforts, those circumstances should change.”
In fact, I asked some people about the overall situation in the world, and I discovered that some countries were doing things that were different from this was still a game. Among them is a country that is bustling with people from various professions coming and going in that place.
“If only we realized sooner, maybe things could have changed…”
However, this was no longer possible.
To relieve my frustration, I took a deep breath and looked up at the huge blue sky visible through cracks in the carriage’s canopy.
I thought this world was wonderful when it was just a game, but seeing it in person was far more incredible. Because it felt that time seemed to be flowing slowly now, as back then one hour in real life was equivalent to one day in the game, I inhaled deeply once more.
It feels great.
…
“Wow!”
After arriving at the Elenzi Holy Land, the country of support jobs, I couldn’t help but let out a sigh of admiration. I couldn’t help it because this was my base of operations while playing the game, so I felt really nostalgic about it, and above all, this place is really beautiful.
I am currently at the Holy City of Tzire, the capital of the Elenzi Holy Land. At the heart of this city lies a grand cathedral made entirely out of crystal.
The sunshine reflects off the water in the spring that flows from the base of the sacred tree in front of the great cathedral, making it sparkle in a variety of colors. The Sacred Tree’s spring water never runs dry and it flows throughout the city via several channels.
This extraordinarily clear water can be transformed into holy water using a skill, hence it was quite usual for players to collect spring water from the holy tree.
The city’s main motif is light blue, which creates a serene mood. This is really perfect for this city which is renowned as the Sacred Capital, though some refer to it as the Land of Water.
I exhale softly while admiring the view of the city. I really wanted to explore this city more, but unfortunately I don’t have the time because I have so much more to do.
“First, I have to find a place to set up my base of operations.”
In addition to the money I took from home, I exchanged the jewelry I brought in the villages we stopped at on the way here, so I’m relieved that I’ll have enough money to last for a while.
However, the things that I need will increase in the future, therefore I must register as an explorer as soon as possible so that I can begin working.
“I have a lot of things to do, so I’ll be very busy from now on.”
Note:
1. The basic job is written as 癒し手 which lit. translate to healing hands, or roughly healer, the second job is written in katakana ヒーラー which reads as healer. Now I’m contemplating to change that second job from Healer to Priest since I already changed “Iyashi Te” to Cleric and since the awakening job is Archbishop so that there will be consistency. Cleric > Priest > Archbishop.
We are currently recruiting. CN/KR/JP Translators/MTLers are welcome!
