Shinichi was pondering how to respond when a group of detectives happened to pass by.

They were murmuring things like, “Despite being so young…” and “Could you follow a superintendent like that…”

It seemed they were badmouthing Maho.

Kana frowned, her beautiful eyebrows knitting together as she spoke quietly.

Shinichi agreed, replying, “Yeah, you’re right.”

It must be more challenging than he imagined to manage a group of detectives, most of whom are older men.

At that moment, their section chief passed by in the corridor and turned to them.

He beckoned Shinichi, and Shinichi headed towards him in the hallway.

The section chief patted Shinichi’s shoulder, grinning.

“This weekend, why don’t you take Azusa-san out for a date?”

“Eh? But I have work this weekend, right? We have that robbery case…”

“It seems we’re close to solving it, thanks to Superintendent Akinaga.”

The section chief said nonchalantly.

Shinichi’s eyes widened in surprise.

Cases that require an Investigation Headquarters are usually difficult ones that take a long time to solve.

The serial robbery case had been under investigation for a while now, but this seemed like a swift resolution.

“Apparently, they were able to narrow down the suspect quickly using a new profiling technique. And, the perpetrator left a clue in this recent case, so it’s the end of the line. Oh well, as expected, a superintendent from the headquarters, especially a career-track officer, is excellent. Now I can go home early.”

The section chief left in a good mood.

When Shinichi turned around, Kana was standing behind him, looking somewhat pleased.

“Senpai, are we really going on a date?”

“Ah, that was just the section chief’s joke.”

“You’re making up for this afternoon, right?”

“Uhm, well, how about we go somewhere two weekends from now?”

When Shinichi said that, Kana’s eyes went wide.

“R-really? Is it okay?”

“Ah, was it a joke? If so, I’m sorry, nevermind…”

Kana blushed and looked up at Shinichi. Being stared at by a petite beauty made his heart flutter.

“It’s a promise, okay?”

“Sure…”

Then, Kana tilted her head as if she had just realized something.

“By the way, why two weeks from now? I’m free so it’s okay, but…”

“I’m not sure how the investigation will turn out this week, and I have plans to move next week.”

“Ah, I see. Senpai, you’re moving out of the singles dormitory, right?”

New police officers all move into the singles dormitory, but many move out after a few years. It was about time for Shinichi to move out too.

That said, rents in the city are high, so he’s decided to do a room share.
