- Chapter 41 - That’s Really... Quite a Coincidence
That’s Really… Quite a Coincidence
A brisk night wind swept through the streets.
Kimura, who had just come out of the station, involuntarily tightened his clothes, hands firmly in his pockets.
He remembered the weather forecast mentioning a temperature drop in the coming days when he left home in the morning.
However, the sudden cold caught him off guard.
He wondered if Fujikawa had safely returned home. Contacting him now would probably be difficult, so he decided to call and check tomorrow.
Hopefully he doesn’t collapse on the streets of Tokyo in this weather…
Kimura shook his head helplessly.
Due to this unexpected incident, he had to postpone the work on his graduation project for a day.
Fortunately, most of the scattered shots had already been taken, and the remaining scenes were not urgent.
Tomorrow would be a perfect day to clear his schedule, allowing him to carefully edit and process the footage accumulated during this time.
With these thoughts in mind, Kimura had already reached the entrance of his rented apartment without realizing it.
He stopped, looking up.
His rented room was brightly lit, dispelling the chilly night outside.
Kimura unzipped his coat, revealing a beige scarf. Now might not be too late to give…
Reaching into his bag, he pulled out the long scarf and headed upstairs.
……
Opening the door of the rented apartment, Asuka’s melodious voice echoed from inside.
The delicate face of the girl peeked out from the kitchen, her clear and bright eyes fixed on him.
“Has Hayata-chan had dinner?”
“Ate a bit of yakitori, but I still feel like I haven’t eaten enough…”
Kimuras scratched his cheek with one hand behind his back. “Is there anything to eat tonight?”
“I’ve prepared miso soup to help Hayata-chan sober up. If that’s not enough, I can make pork cutlet rice for Hayata-chan. How about that?”
“Then, I’ll leave it to you, Asuka.”
Kimura said with a smile.
Asuka’s eyes curved, revealing a pair of adorable dimples on her face.
Watching the girl enter the kitchen again, Kimura changed his shoes and headed inside.
As he was about to pass by the kitchen, he held the beige scarf in front of him.
“Asuka!”
Kimura shouted towards the petite figure in the kitchen.
Asuka turned around, taking ingredients from the fridge.
“The weather has been getting colder lately, so I got you a scarf.”
Kimura raised the beige scarf in his hand.
“Eh?”
Asuka’s gaze fell on the beige scarf in Kimura’s hand, her eyes slightly widening.
“You don’t like it, Asuka?”
Seeing Asuka’s lack of reaction, Kimura said in confusion, “Ah, it’s not like that…”
Asuka snapped out of her thoughts, a mysterious smile appearing at the corner of her mouth. She swung her hands in front of her repeatedly.
“Is Hayata-chan giving me a scarf?” The girl chuckled, repeating the question as if unsure.
“Huh? Is there something wrong?” Watching Asuka’s cheerful smile, Kimura was momentarily unsure.
Could it be that he approached this the wrong way?
“Whoosh~ Hayata-chan…”
Asuka’s eyes, crescent-shaped like a moon, walked up to Kimura, took the beige scarf from his hand, and said, “I really like this scarf. Thank you, Hayata-chan.”
Hugging the beige scarf, Asuka gently caressed it with her delicate fingers.
Suddenly, Asuka looked up, her clear eyes gazing at Kimura.
“Hayata-chan!”
“Hmm?”
“I also have something to give to Hayata-chan.”
“Hah?” Kimura blinked in surprise.
“It’s on the coffee table in the living room. Hayata-chan, go take a look.”
Asuka gently pushed Kimura out of the kitchen and into the living room.
“What is it?”
“Hayata-chan will know when Hayata-chan sees it.”
Asuka teased, a mischievous smile on her face.
On the coffee table in the living room, a white bag sat quietly.
Kimura looked down at the girl, only to see Asuka’s mysterious smile.
“Well, I’ll take it out.”
“Mm.”
Kimura picked up the bag on the table and reached inside.
The touch was soft, accompanied by slightly rough textures…
Wait, this feeling seemed familiar?!
He pulled out the contents of the bag, and another beige scarf appeared in his hand.
“This scarf…” Kimura’s eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at the scarf in his hand.
Then, he turned to look at Asuka’s scarf.
Asuka swung the scarf that Kimura had given her in her small hands.
“It seems Hayata-chan and I chose the same thing.” Asuka lightly pursed her lips, smiling.
Kimura’s gaze kept shifting between the two scarves, a look of realization appearing on his face.
No wonder Asuka had that expression earlier.
“That’s really… quite a coincidence.” Kimura couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Do you like it, Hayata-chan?” Asuka pointed to the scarf in his hand.
“Yeah, I like it, just like Asuka.”
“It’s a couple’s set.”
“Seems like it, hahaha…”
……
The next morning, Kimura left the rental house very early.
He took a bus to Kiyomi Art University.
Because today he needed to edit the already-shot video clips from the script, Kimura only asked the editing team to stay and help with the editing.
As for the other members of the crew, he considered it a day off.
However, in a little while, the filming of the script would reach its most crucial parts – Kamiya Toru and Hino Maori’s mutual confession and Kamiya Toru’s sudden death.
For these two scenes, Kimura had been looking for suitable filming locations.
But so far, he hadn’t found any.
“I hope we don’t really have to go to a more distant place to rent a location.”
Kimura rubbed his nose with a headache. This was considered the worst option among all the shooting plans.
If he really did that, he estimated that after finishing the shoot, he would deplete all his savings.
By then, he wouldn’t even be able to afford the rent for the rental house, starting a life of wandering the streets of Tokyo.
That would be too miserable.
Kimura entered the photography club activity room, where Yoshida Ikumi and others from the editing team were sitting.
“Kimura-senpai!” The people in the room quickly stood up and greeted him.
“Coming so early?”
Kimura looked at the members of the editing team in surprise, taking out his phone to check the time.
Even though he had arrived a few minutes early, it turned out that the members of the editing team had arrived even earlier than him.
“After all, we’re really looking forward to seeing what kind of work we can create together,” Yoshida preemptively answered.
The others nodded in agreement.
Kimura approached a computer in the activity room, took off his backpack, and pulled out a USB flash drive.
Then he looked up at the members of the editing team.
“Well then, let’s work hard today and edit all the footage we shot before in one go!”
“Yes!” Several people responded.
Seeing the enthusiastic attitude of the members, Kimura was momentarily inspired and sat down at his desk, entering work mode.
However, what Kimura didn’t notice was that, taking advantage of his distraction, Yoshida quickly turned off a video playing on the computer…
