- Chapter 9 - Hayata-chan's Portrait
Hayata-chan’s Portrait
The night was deep, and a gentle breeze carried the chill of the night into the room, causing Kimura, seated in front of the computer, to shiver involuntarily.
Pausing his fingers from tapping on the keyboard, Kimura turned his head to look at Asuka, who was sleeping soundly with her arms as a pillow, resting on the computer desk.
He got up, walked to the window, closed it tightly, and drew the curtains.
Can’t afford to catch a cold!
Kimura raised his hands, stretching vigorously, and a tired yawn escaped him, accompanied by tears at the corners of his eyes.
He initially thought he could roughly outline the plot of the script tonight. Now, it seemed like he was being a bit too optimistic.
However, with a few days left until the end of the month, as long as he worked diligently, writing the main scenes and plot of the script shouldn’t be a big issue.
Just in terms of certain scenes, considering practical feasibility, some modifications were needed.
“Asuka, Asuka!”
Kimura leaned over, reaching out to gently touch Asuka’s soft and tender face twice.
“Mmm~”
Asuka, still half-asleep, opened her hazy eyes, and her little mouth moved as if chewing.
“Is it done?”
Asuka rubbed her eyes with her pure little hands, sitting there like a soulful, dazed kitten.
“Not yet… It’s late. Go rest.”
With sleepy eyes, Asuka got up and swayed towards the bedroom.
“Hayata-chan, you should rest early too.”
Watching Asuka enter the bedroom, Kimura saved the content on the computer and turned it off.
Kimura crawled back into the warmth of the sofa’s blankets, reaching out to switch off the living room light.
In an instant, the rental house plunged into darkness.
The fatigue of the day dissipated in the warm blankets as Kimura’s eyelids closed heavily.
“Hayata-chan.”
A soft and tender voice of Asuka came from the bedroom.
“Hmm?”
“Good night!”
“Good night…”
……
A slight itching sensation spread across his face, as if there was a breeze.
Kimura opened his eyes and met Asuka, squatting in front of the sofa, blowing air towards him while puffing up her cheeks.
Seeing him awake, Asuka smiled, revealing a pair of cute dimples on her face.
“Ohayo, Hayata-chan.”
“Ohayo.”
Kimura yawned, sitting up from the sofa.
Suddenly, he realized that with Asuka around, it seemed like he didn’t even need an alarm clock.
Sunbeams streamed into the room from the clear window, and the dazzling light left Kimura in a dreamy state.
“Come over and have breakfast.”
“Ok~”
Kimura got up and headed to the bathroom. The late-night scriptwriting left him feeling a bit low on energy.
He had overestimated himself, thinking he could outline the script’s main plot last night. In reality, it was too ambitious.
Standing at the sink, he bent over, turned on the tap, and cupped his hands to splash some cool water on his face.
“Ssss~ It’s really cold.”
Kimura gritted his teeth; the icy sensation brought a rosy tint to his fair cheeks, and his weary spirit perked up a bit.
Exiting the bathroom, Kimura sat at the dining table and, seeing only his breakfast there, he paused.
“Aren’t you having breakfast, Asuka?”
“I just finished.”
Asuka pursed her lips. “I called you several times this morning, but you wouldn’t get up.”
“Sorry! I slept too late yesterday.” Kimura apologized.
Curious, Asuka asked, “How’s Hayata-chan’s script coming along?”
“It’s still far from being complete; I might need to take it slow.”
Kimura sighed, scratching his head.
The thought of having to stay home for a long time to write the script weighed on Kimura’s mind.
But the deadline for the graduation project script was looming, and if he didn’t submit it soon…
Even Koike Yui might not be able to save him.
“Itadakimasu.”
Kimura picked up the bread from the table and began eating, determined to finish quickly and get back to working on the script.
Across the table, Asuka rested her chin on her hands, her eyes curved, quietly watching Kimura eat.
Suddenly, as if she remembered something, she leaned forward.
“Hey, Hayata-chan, can I take a look at the script you wrote last night?”
Kimura looked up at her and nodded slightly. “The document is on the desktop.”
“Okay.”
Asuka got up, walked to the computer desk, opened the laptop, and moved the mouse to open the document labeled “Script.”
Her fingers gently scrolled the mouse wheel as she carefully read through it again.
In her mind, she transformed the words of the script into movie scenes, contemplating how she would express herself in each shot.
However, more than how to act, Asuka was more concerned about the personality and thoughts of the female lead, Hino Maori, in the script.
To bring a character to life, you first need to understand their thoughts; this had always been a truth that Asuka firmly believed in on set.
This is also why, within a short time of her debut, the roles she played were loved by many fans.
Asuka earnestly looked at every word in the script.
When she read about Hino Maori, who suffered from “anterograde amnesia” and woke up every day forgetting what happened the day before, her emotions inexplicably became low.
If she couldn’t remember what happened the day before, the memories of being with Kamiya Toru would also be lost.
Two lovers, clearly attracted to each other, yet unable to leave a trace in their minds—how painful it must be.
Gradually, she immersed herself in the plot depicted by the script, watching Kamiya Toru and Hino Maori’s dates in front of the camera again and again, a mixture of happiness and sadness filling her heart.
“Asuka? Asuka?”
Just as Asuka was engrossed in reading, Kimura’s clear voice came from behind her.
Reluctantly, Asuka withdrew her gaze, turning to look at Kimura.
“Yes!”
“Asuka, can you draw portraits? Not two-dimensional characters, but realistic portraits of people in real life,” Kimura asked.
“Am I going to draw a portrait of Hayata-chan?”
Asuka immediately understood.
She had just seen in the script that there was a portrait of Kamiya Toru as a prop.
If things were going as expected, the portrait of Kamiya Toru was probably drawn by Hino Maori.
If they were to shoot it, they would naturally need a portrait of Kimura, who played Kamiya Toru.
Kimura was taken aback, not expecting Asuka to immediately understand what he wanted to ask.
He nodded and said, “Yes. Can you draw? If you can’t, then we can…”
“I can!” Asuka turned towards Kimura, looking at him with bright eyes.
“What?” Kimura asked in confusion.
“I can. I have a portrait of you, Hayata-chan.” Asuka smiled with a twinkle in her eyes.
“Huh?”
In Kimura’s puzzled and curious gaze, Asuka stood up and walked towards the bedroom.
Shortly after, Asuka came out holding a roll of drawing paper.
Then, to the surprise of Kimura, Asuka unfolded the drawing paper in her hands.
A black and white sketch of Kimura’s face appeared before him.
In the drawing, the young man tilted his head slightly, with a hint of innocence in his eyebrows and eyes, and his face was gentle.
Kimura was shocked, pointing at the drawing paper in Asuka’s hand and said, “Did you draw this, Asuka?”
“Mm.”
Asuka’s cheeks were tinged with a blush, and with a shy and nervous look in her eyes, she asked Kimura, “Is it okay?”
Kimura swallowed hard, remained silent for a while, and then said, “It’s not just okay, it’s amazing!”
Asuka’s beautiful eyes curved, revealing two adorable dimples on her face.
Next, under the astonished gaze of Kimura, Asuka flipped through the drawing papers in her hand.
“This one is from the night we became lovers…”
“Oh, this one is from the day Hayata-chan took me to the shrine. I imitated the drawing from a photo I took…”
“And this one is when I was sick, and Hayata-chan visited me. The expression was so unforgettable that I couldn’t help but draw it…”
“…”
Outside the window, golden sunlight poured in, casting a warm glow on the girl’s fair and delicate face.
Her long eyelashes radiated a gentle light, her bright eyes sparkled, and her rosy lips opened slightly, excitedly recounting the stories behind each drawing.
A radiant aura surrounded them, filling the room with warmth and tenderness.
