Pill Tycoon - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: Difficult to Marry
Xue Luan was still fuming from Lu Qiwen’s antics in the elevator. Hearing her father’s words, she playfully pouted and suddenly leaped into the air, kicking her long leg toward Xue Baitao.
Xue Baitao hadn’t expected his daughter to attack without warning, but he still smiled warmly. He took a step back, skillfully dodging her kick, which was so close it ruffled his clothes.
Xue Luan didn’t expect to land a hit. She let out a sharp cry and launched a series of rapid kicks in mid-air. Xue Baitao blocked each one effortlessly, finally grabbing her leg and giving it a gentle tug, causing her to stumble and land in a split on the ground.
Clapping his hands, Xue Baitao sat in the garden pavilion, sipping tea as Xue Luan approached. “What’s got you so worked up, my dear? Did someone really bully you?”
Sitting across from him, Xue Luan seethed at the memory of Lu Qiwen’s indifferent attitude. He had seen her naked and still didn’t care. It was infuriating for someone as proud as her.
Clenching her fists, she said through gritted teeth, “Dad, I’ve found you a son-in-law.”
Xue Baitao, in the middle of a sip, choked and sprayed tea everywhere. Luckily, Xue Luan had anticipated this and avoided the splash.
He looked at her in disbelief, then touched his forehead, muttering, “I don’t have a fever, so I must be hallucinating.”
Xue Luan walked over, grabbing his arm and shaking it playfully, “Dad, what are you talking about?”
Laughing heartily, Xue Baitao said, “I thought my daughter would stay single forever. So, who’s the lucky guy? I’ll arrange the marriage right away.”
Pouting, she replied, “Dad, stop talking about those useless playboys. I’d rather stay single forever than marry one of them.”
He chuckled, “Of course. My daughter deserves the best. Who’s the lucky man? Bring him over so your stepmothers and I can meet him.”
She rolled her eyes, “He already has a girlfriend. Are you okay with that?”
Xue Baitao blinked, then laughed, “So what if he has a girlfriend? My daughter can win him over.”
“If he abandons his girlfriend for me, I wouldn’t want him,” she said firmly.
Xue Baitao looked like he had been struck dumb. He stood up, staring at her, “You don’t mean you want to be his mistress, do you?”
Her icy demeanor melted, replaced by a cold glint in her eyes, “That depends on whether he’s worthy.”
Xue Baitao was confused. She seemed to want to tear this man apart, yet she also wanted him as a son-in-law. Shaking his head, he said, “You’re a handful. Times have changed. I married your mothers decades ago, but polygamy is illegal now.”
Sipping her tea, she replied, “I was just giving you a heads-up. I never said I wanted to get married.”
With that, she walked towards her room.
Watching her leave, Xue Baitao shook his head, a glint of determination in his eyes. He clapped his hands, and a sturdy man appeared, bowing respectfully, “Master, what are your orders?”
Xue Baitao hesitated, then waved him away, “Never mind. Let her be for now. She’s 25 and finally interested in someone. I need to tell her stepmothers about this.”
Meanwhile, Lu Qiwen and Liu Suyan arrived at the hospital. She tugged his arm, “We can’t visit empty-handed.”
She pulled him into a nearby store, and they emerged with a basket of flowers and some supplements.
The hallway was quiet, their footsteps echoing softly. At the door of the private room, Lu Qiwen knocked gently. A pretty nurse opened the door—it was the same nurse he had arranged for earlier.
After placing the items down, Lu Qiwen saw He Xuan lying there, her complexion much improved.
The nurse quietly left, and Liu Suyan gasped at He Xuan’s burned face. From her half-perfect features, she could tell He Xuan had once been stunning. The fire had ruined her life. Liu Suyan now understood why Lu Qiwen had taken her in.
“She’s so pitiful,” Liu Suyan whispered.
Lu Qiwen nodded, “Yes, a fire destroyed everything for her. You might not know, but she’s the famous actress He Xuan.”
Though Liu Suyan wasn’t well-versed in the entertainment world, He Xuan’s fame was widespread. Even Liu Suyan had heard of her and seen her performances. She hadn’t connected the burned patient with the star until now. Her sympathy for He Xuan deepened.
The room felt heavy with sadness. Lu Qiwen picked up an apple from the basket and began peeling it with skill, the peel coming off in one long strip. Liu Suyan watched, amazed.
When he handed her the peeled apple, she took it, surprised, “I didn’t know you could do that.”
He laughed, “I have many secrets. You don’t know half of them.”
She smiled, eating the apple, “Oh? What else are you hiding? Spill it.”
He grinned, “I’ll tell you everything once you’re my wife. Not just physically, but emotionally too.”
